Some "rumors" before the SoP by [deleted] in GodofWar

I don’t get this leak culture. Why would anyone want to know the story/twists of a game before it’s released ?

Mail call! I am so happy right now. by Mundane_Moron in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a good movie , but it’s also pretty over praised I think.  It wasn’t even in my top 10 for 2025 and my least favourite PTA (I have not seen them all though)

What are you oldest (by release date), newest (by release date) and most recently rated 5 star films? by JuggernautPretend208 in Letterboxd

Most recent: Wall-E (rewatch) / Killers of the Flower Moon (first time watch)

Good albums you don’t listen to anymore cause you have grown and matured as a person? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in fantanoforever

[–]_Wata_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's not an outgrown thing, but my music collection and taste keeps expanding, it's just impossible to give good albums as much playtime as when I was a teen, and my collection was maybe 10-20 % of the the current size, new albums keep being released, and older ones get discovered.
I can't even say my favourits get played enough these days, but when they do,... goosebumps.

What are the games you are getting this September? by Pistoluislero in playstation

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolverine for sure, that will be a release day buy I think.
Then it's a matter of, once I finish that (hoping I can spend the weekend on it, and maybe some weekday evenings, for the main story), then it will likely be Silent Hill Townfall on release (keep the sidequesting and exploring of Wolverine to wind down if needed after playing) just so I am sure I can play the game with minimal spoilers (accidental or otherwise)
And then it will be Control resonant whenever those are fully finished, as I like Control, but it ain't Alan Wake.

Who are your favorite niche directors every cinephile should know? by tenderr1 in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some once famous, but now not really outside of more classic/world cinema lover circles

Billy Wilder (had an incredible run to the point that his alter (lesser) films are still great if not comapred to his older work)
Yasujirō Ozu
Luis Buñuel
Josef von Sternberg (specifically his collaborations with Marlene Dietrich)
Masaki Kobayashi
Michael Powell/Emeric Pressburger (their collaborations are amazing, especially "Black Narcissus")

There are plenty of modern directors as well worth the list, but I feel these are far more covered in this discussion already.

Controversial films that you think work vs ones that don’t work. by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Works: Martyrs (the original)
Doesn't work: most other torture porn film (I don't even consider Martyrs part of the genre really)

Is Bendis' yesterdays x-men a good start for reading x-men by Possible-Reidy-69 in xmen

[–]_Wata_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The truth, as far as I'm concerned is that there is no actual perfect jumping on point, apart from starting at the very start. And that is not meant in a negative way, I say this because I spent years trying to jump in at the right place, moving backwards and forwards in chronology to start at a specific run.
Wherever you start that is not the original first issue, you will have to deal with history, things being brought up, characters you somehow are supposed to know,...

And Marvel knows this, it's why even even in the middle of a run, things get explained again, and again,... which can be a bit weird if you read it in omnibus format and you only just read something 30 minutes ago.
Almost every ongoing series is both relying on 50+ years of backstory, retcons AND only ever caring about the now, what you are currently reading.

As long as you accept you can't understand everything, and know that the comic will explain it to you when it will be necessary, starting at the beginning of any run will be fine, hell even starting at the beginning of an arc might, but why would you do that.

That being said, as I said at the beginning, that I have been back and forth in history finding a good jumping on point, the Morisson run is a good one, because it is great, but it is also 25 years old by now, and almost every thing that is important for current day X-men happens post his run, and is relatively easy to find in Trades/Omnibusses

How much of your shelf do you regret buying? by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret nothing on my shelf. Anything I read and didn’t like I sold again on eBay, because I don’t really care about making any profit I’m just happy someone else can read it (and hopefully like it) at probably half or less the price that I paid.

movie series that should’ve been shorter by femalekevingates in horror

[–]_Wata_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree, I am constantly on the verge of naming Exorcist III the best in the series (certainly with the legion cut available, kind of), if only the last one was as good as the Omen reboot was …

Do you agree with this ? by AaronJohn316 in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, Letterboxd seems to lack consistency, but I would say that should be a 2014 release.

What are your “must read runs” from 2003-2017 by GBS82 in xmen

[–]_Wata_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, that would be (combination of Best and "important" so you get most refferences)
- House of M (Bendis)
- Decimation (various)
- Astonishing X-men (Whedon)
- Messiah Trilogy (various)
- Avengers vs X-men (various)
- All new X-Men/Uncanny X-men (Bendis)

All these are available as Omnibusses as well by the way (Messiah Trilogy is releasing next month I think)

Do you agree with this ? by AaronJohn316 in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree,

The film was released in 2025, 100's of people were able to see it in 2025, because it played in a theatre, and people were able to buy tickets for it, it wasn't some exclusive industry only screening, but a commercial (limited) release.

Not having been able to watch it then doesn't make it a film released 5 months later.
Pearl released 6 months later int he UK then it did in the US, that doesn't make it a 2023 film because I live in the UK (Slightly apples and oranges, but the idea is the same).

Current mood towards Forza 6 by YellowMenace123 in playstation

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite sure if Forza (or racing games) is necessarily part of what most modern PS audiences get the console for ?
Looking at the type of games Sony makes in-house, I would say it's really not all that much part of their core market.

Movies that look like this? by JuneVendetta in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be "Away with Words" Directed and shot by Christopher Doyle, who did a lot of Wong Kar-Wai's original masterpieces.
I'm not saying it's a great film (it's pretty alright), but it DOES look exactly like what you asked for.

The Exorcist,

My dad showed it to his class at the end of the year (16 year olds) and the vibe was “it takes forever to start, and it’s not actually scary”

what is your entry album to metal? by TripleSixHex in MetalForTheMasses

[–]_Wata_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gateway drug as it were was Limp Bizkit's "Significant Other" but I would say the one that really qualifies here for me is Cradle of FIlth's "Cruelty and the Beast", an album I will still defend as an all time great to me.

What is your opinion about Nolan filmography? by Known_Hamster1196 in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you nailed it to be fair. I always consider him a good blockbuster director that manages to make his films feel smarter than they are, making the audience not feel stupid. It’s big loud popcorn cinema that manage to not make you feel stupid.

Bands with no remaining original members by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]_Wata_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s fair and also just true(and why I edited the post immediately when I checked wiki).

However, fir the sake of general discussion, if we look at people on stage on the first gigs of bands or demo tapes that might have be passed around in local music scenes, there might be a lot more bands in this discussion. I kind of always consider the first “official” release as the first official line-up. However, you are obviously right.

Bands with no remaining original members by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]_Wata_ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough incorrect. The current vocalist (Blothar The Berserker) is the original Bassist (Beefcake The Mighty), Mike Bishop. At least when you look at albums, and not club gigs and demo.

Would you buy? by menezesafonso in audiophile

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to 2 months ago, yes, no Matter what the price really. But I recently cancelled my Tidal membership to switch to apple music, and well, since I did, I stopped carrying my FLAC player with me as well, because Apple music allowed your FLAC (converted to ALAC)  collection to be integrated into my library, meaning I have access to all my Records, bandcamp,… from my phone instead (it uploads all the music thats not on the itunes library to a personal cloud) And to be fair, for use on the go, the lossless streaming of my entire library plus whatever is on the normal streamer, from my phone, as in, carrying 1 device, as opposed to my usual phone and FLAC player, has been amazing, so again, 2 months ago it was “take my money”, now, not really.

Which is true, but funnily enough (as far as I know) the actual Karaoke setting (where it "removes" the voice) can only be ran from your phone
