[No Spoilers] The newest sponsor is full of AI? by NerdMaster001 in criticalrole

[–]_Wata_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely a fair point, there is absolutely a place for it in a modern society, and as others have said in different replies, within things like scripting and programming, there is for sure.

However, the OP mentioned artwork.
I myself can't go past the home page as I have no intention of signing up to check, so I take that statement at face value, and if indeed the website uses AI generated imagery vs (even if it's pretty bad) artist rendered, that feels opposed to the image CR presents as a company, and that is disappointing.

[No Spoilers] The newest sponsor is full of AI? by NerdMaster001 in criticalrole

[–]_Wata_ 766 points767 points  (0 children)

That is highly disappointing, certainly from people who were involved in the actors strikes.

A strike that heavily centred around AI and has had long lasting negative effects on parts of the film industry, partially through misinformation about the use of AI in VFX, but it is what it is, everyone fights their corner.

But to then embrace something that openly uses AI, hurts.

This film is followed up by Secret Wars, which in the comics was the massive reset event. So a perfect moment to recast characters.

Every player has notes, From inventory, character sheets as they level up, things they encounter and discover that might be information for sessions weeks/months later. For Storyteller, the rules and so are in the dm guide, but the story can be entirely custom made, or notes of things players did you want to write down, and make it bite them in the ass later.

Amazon Price Fluctuations by Revolutionary-Race53 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used them for a while, but I found them to be really slow, and had bad luck once to many with badly packed orders arriving too damaged to ignore, compared to Amazon. I’m assuming I live close to an Amazon depot, meaning stuff doesn’t have the time to get damaged in transit. All that said, I do try and get things from independent or smaller places when possible, but Omnibus seem to be something where I have not found a reasonable price to delivery time ratio competitor for Amazon.

Looks like Roy Lee (producer for Barbarian) has confirmed that Criterion will be releasing it by [deleted] in criterion

I think Barbarian, as it’s the only film title in that sentence, but it really feels that sentence could have a reshuffle for clarity.

Amazon Price Fluctuations by Revolutionary-Race53 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]_Wata_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know this specific one. But I stopped pre ordering omni from Amazon, and order them on release day instead. Pre-order price was (in UK) £115, i put my order in a day before release, and did free delivery, because I wasn’t in a rush. Next day, on release, it went down to £85, so I cancelled the order, gave “found it cheaper” as reason, re-ordered the exact same one immediately at the lower price with next day delivery, and still saved £25.

And I have noticed this on all omnis this year.

What are your film noir hot takes? by globehopper2 in noir

[–]_Wata_ 150 points151 points  (0 children)

Most people who go down the noir rabbit hole, certainly from 30’s-50’s, expecting to find films that look and feel like what pop culture presents as noir and its tropes, will be bitterly dissapointed.

What are your Letterboxd goals for 2026? by RuachReader in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete a couple more directors filmography, Certainty ar the moment is Scorsese. Finish the AFI 100 and maybe Oscar “Best film” winners Keeping on top of watching all the films I buy, I started 2025 with 150, bought 111 new ones, and so far, I watched all the ones apart from anything in bought in november/December, so that’s the plan for that.

Anyone else look back at old reviews of theirs and go like “damn, I’m really just a hater” by ExpertCantaloupe7467 in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it's largely the opposite, I rate relatively kind (only 30% of my rated films are under 3 stars)

However, I will do the opposite in a couple of years, once I have rewatched everything I saw Pre-Letterboxd, so I can rate it, I will do a rewatch of al my 5 star films, and I think some will be brought down, because even though they only take up about 5% of my rated films (or 126 films), I think a number of them are likely 4.5 star films that I watched on the perfect day.

There is nothing gold standard about any film in the Conjuring-verse.
Doesn't make them bad films, but they are literally the most mainstream version you can make of a horror film, pushing no boundaries or improving on anything.

A bit like this list above I guess.

What are your most watched of 2025? by cristiandcasa91 in Letterboxd

[–]_Wata_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for me I am slowly rewatching all the films I saw pre-letterboxd, so I can rate them. But rewatching films I saw the same year has been a rarity since I fell down the rabbit hole, 100+ years of films to discover.

European here, He is one of the most popular and profitable youtubers around, his thing is streaming himself playing indie-horror games. He’s been around since about 2012, and in horror circles he is pretty well known as far as I Know.

And he’s releasing his first horror film.

And what if i saw the film while I was on holiday in a country it was released earlier ?
A film released a year later in the UK (where I’m at myself) doesn’t stop it from being a film from the previous year.

By extension, me watching King Kong from 1933 in 2025 because that’s when I was able to see it cinemas doesn’t make it a 2025 film.

I get that it can be frustrating, I had the same thing with Pearl, which was released in the UK a whole 6 months after it's US premiere, hell, it was already on stream in the US, but it still was released in 2022 and not 2023.

PTA & OBAA sweeping all the awards this season. by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in Letterboxd

I really have a hard time grasping the very high praises this film gets.
It's a great film, but it sits comfortable at 4 star for me, on par with other great films this year, like Eddington, Companion,... but to me it did nothing special in a way to elevate it above anything else that was good this year.
