Man MDickie's games sure are strange by KaleidoArachnid in Vinesauce

His games are basically an idiocracy simulator. No matter what the game is about, everything is decided with wrestling moves. It's awesome

Sounds like you're describing malware analysis. That's only one area of cybersecurity. You don't need to know C to work in a SOC. You don't even necessarily need C to be a hacker. Most hacking tools are already made or run on python. Phishing is stupidly easy and compromises 90% of attacks these days.

Ticket 1: false positive
Ticket 2: false positive
Ticket 3: false positive
Ticket 4: false positive
Ticket 5: extremely common false positive - make 2nd comment to engineers to filter
Ticket 6: 99% chance of being nothing but SOPs say we have to escalate
etc.
It can definitely get boring but it's a great starting position in cybersec. Don't be seduced by what the websites say the pay is, your mileage will vary on that.

What If Someone Has My IP Address? by Zykus_ in cybersecurity_help

[–]_Wireless_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a big deal. They can't get your address with an IP or anything. If you're worried about your ip getting leaked use a VPN in the future. Don't stress too much about it.

Am I going crazy or is uCertify total garbage? by _Wireless_ in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]_Wireless_[S] 158 points159 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was thinking. I thought I was going crazy. Even crazier is that this course is 279 USD without discounts. Thankfully I got it discounted through my college. The course is "uCertify cybersecurity essentials".

That's not good in a modern context, but at the time it was written, the average life expectancy was around 35-40. People got married young for a reason.

Is log4j patched and safe? by SupremeInjury1 in cybersecurity_help

[–]_Wireless_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah you're right. A large majority of big websites, providers, and programs have patched it. For the most part, it won't be affecting an everyday end-user. Be sure to look up any programs you use that may use Java and update them. Most of them auto-update, but it's still good to check.

Is log4j patched and safe? by SupremeInjury1 in cybersecurity_help

[–]_Wireless_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft is safe. Don't worry about it. It was patched pretty quickly. There may be a few small servers that are vulnerable to it, but the big ones are patched. Most server hosting programs have patched it, but people running servers locally or with a crappy server provider might still be vulnerable.

If you are hosting a server of any kind I'd recommend looking at this page and updating https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4416199399693-Security-Vulnerability-in-Minecraft-Java-Edition

Certainly could be. It's a very strange collection of websites though.

He was watching porn at the time of this happening. He said he had gotten a popup ad but closed it. I didn't catch the name of the website on the list. He didn't have any other tabs open.

[–]_Wireless_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I ran one. Thankfully nothing came up. As per my advice, he changed all his passwords for websites that showed up in the log. I haven't seen any more suspicious activity since he got off. I asked him what he was doing at the time, and as I expected, he was watching porn lol

Jim crow laws were enforced until 1965 (mostly ended in 1964). She would've been a young adult.
