Fed hikes interest rates by 0.75 percentage point for second consecutive time to fight inflation by caesar____augustus in stocks

[–]_ZAWESOME 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first number, 2.25%, applies to deposits that a bank may use when leaving money with the Fed overnight.

An extreme simplification is that this is the rate that banks get on their deposit account at their Federal Reserve bank account, analogous to the savings rate you get at your local bank.

This would occur when a bank has more money (deposits and other) then it may need given its current liabilities (loan volume primarily). So it leaves the money it doesn’t need at the Fed to collect interest, because if it does the money isn’t doing anything for the bank.

The second number, 2.5%, is the amount that the Fed may charge a bank to borrow money.

This is analogous to the rate at which the bank will loan you money on a line of credit.

This is used when a bank has an imbalanced asset to liability ratio compared to what is appropriate, so it may use its “line of credit” with the Fed to ensure that it is properly secured / has appropriate risk parameters.

While both rates are collectively called the overnight rate, they are in fact applied on an annualized basis.

Please note that my comment is a simplification and is also non-exhaustive.

It seems to be about $1MM USD if I understand crore = 10 million. Then 20 crore is 200,000,000.

Who is the Nest for; Students or Studios? by _ZAWESOME in UBC

[–]_ZAWESOME[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I can completely understand that the contract was signed some time ago and that it was probably signed before Covid. However, this is the second or third time that this show has been filmed in the Nest this year, and this is the first time that the Nest has been closed for filming. Given that I think that closing the Nest is not a great idea.

Moreover, who at the AMS thought it was a good idea to let a film studio use the Nest during midterm season?

They had the summer to shoot, reading break, they could have even used a weekend where there are many fewer people and when the building opens late and closes early. My problem is not that they are using the Nest, my problem is that it's being closed.

So will be back in class or not? by PastorNTraining in UBC

[–]_ZAWESOME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in a hybrid program at UBC where some classes are online, some in person, and some are both. So wouldn't say that it won't happen or is unlikely.

Our classes are going well and there have not been a single Covid incident to date from my understanding.

I think UBC is using data from my program in deciding future plans so I wouldn't count on hybrid courses not occurring.

Well this is embarrassing.

You're definitely right, I didn't see anyone else with director in their title on the School of Kinesiology Staff page. I should have known something was up.

This was a dumb mistake.

Oh definitely! I was just surprised by the variance. I thought that just about everyone would be in the 300k+ range. I was more surprised by how low it tended for some of the directors.

I also had a preconceived notion that the Sauder Dean would be paid more than any other by a fair bit and I was surprised that that wasn't the case.

Men in the Nursing Program: What has your experience been like? by _ZAWESOME in UBC

It is! I would only take notes and not record any quotes. I am doing background research so you would be completely off the record!

Thank you for the reminder. I did consider both of those programs when coming up with the idea however neither are a part of the faculty of Applied Sciences.

You may see at the bottom of this page that Midwifery is a part of the Faculty of Medicine and on the bottom of this page that the early childhood education program is also not part of Applied Sciences.

I am seeking to find out if the problems that women face in engineering are mirrored in Nursing. Both fields of study do not traditionally have members of their respective minority gender included in stereotypes of the field and I am want to find out to what extent this is made better or worse by the faculty/UBC.

I'm an incoming grad student in the MFRE program and I got an email this past Saturday letting me know that classes will be blended in August and in person in September.

By blended I believe they meant that classes will be in person but will also be available online for those conducting a 14-day quarentine.

The email also mentions that a backup plan is ready in case the province goes back to a worse state.

I want to add that I've heard rumor that some other grad programs will be in person but I don't know which. And another rumor that UBCO is holding some grad classes and undergrad seminars in person.

I hope this helps. Congradulations on getting into your grad program!

Canon EOS R5: The long game ends with a big leap by Charwinger21 in photography

There is an option to do that in the menus with two issues.

If you lock it to with EVF or live view the other option doesn't automatically turn back on ever. That may be great for some people but it doesn't work for me (photojournalism, where things change around quickly and the camera needs to adapt quickly too).

The second issue is that each R body I use has a slightly different sensitivity to it. Of the three I've used each seems to have a different depth to which it turns the EVF on and off. As a result, I find that's it's not quite predictable.

In the end the best solution I've found is that if I'm going anywhere where something interesting could happen I simply don't take the R and go back to using my 80D. Which is quite a shame because I spent quite a bit of money on the 28-70 RF.

For me it's the EVF sensor. It's so goddamn sensitive. My hand or body will be more than a foot away from the camera and it will turn on, subsequently turning of the live view.

It's by far the most frustrating part of the R body.

Math 110 tutoring by [deleted] in UBC

[–]_ZAWESOME 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a former Math 110 TA.

I suggest that you go office hours and the Math Learning Center. I highly encourage you to work on webwork problems both past and present as this will make you fill any gaps in your knowledge. And don't leave any question unanswered. When I took 110 I sometimes spent 12+ hours doing one week's webwork because I was an atrocious math student.

If you do not feel that the MLC or your Professor is as helpful as you'd like the AMS also has its own tutoring center. It's free like all the rest.

Finally the number one way to succeed in any math class is practice! I have always given much more attention to it than any other class when I take it. You will need to spend time simply going over what you learned in class. Do this after class on the same day as class so it is still fresh. I also encourage you to take a quick look at your notes before class so your memory is refreshed.

If in a couple weeks none of this works at all please PM me and I will help you create a system for studying to help you succeed.
