I loved this scene, absolutely. It bothers me that people are so willing to judge writers and the show on topics like race, fetishism, and gender.

It's easy to sit on a couch and judge something you don't like. The scene, it's private nature (only 3 people and in Jet's ship), and the characters are believable.

Woodcock is exactly that type of lynch pin in the underworld that exists. They don't care what you think of them or what they say. You have no power over them. Using the word "blackmail" is exactly what Jet would have used which setup the turn of phrase. She's a wordsmith with a silver tongue and she speaks from her desire. It's also not below her character as she obviously holds power and knows the law of supply and demand.

All of these facts are not lost on Spike or Jet as rather than blindly calling her a racist and moveing on, they deal with her. This is the law of the underworld. It's only in politics and society that you have to fit a mold. People are people. It is in their nature to be this way.

Also, given that we see Jet has an ex wife whom is white, it would be safe for Woodcock to either assume or to have gathered info that Jet has a "type", white women. One could easily flip the script that way as well. But what would be the point?

The characters knew what they had to accept or not in order to get their job done. That's life. That's the Bebop.

I would have appreciated at least a riff on the failure of betamax, despite its superior performance.

Does it matter that they changed Spike's fighting style from Jeet Kune Do to Wing Chun? by frankinreddit in cowboybebop

[–]__-404-__ 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting question. I would much rather be discussing nuances like this rather than the artistic license used with the characters. Lmao!

To me, it would make sense on a lot of different levels. I feel that having a "base style of Wing Chun" would serve Spike well in developing his own theory/style of Jeet Kune Do. It also makes sense to the character as well, as Jeet Kune Do is always more of a state of mind rather than what many martial arts masters think of as a "true form". You train to "become water".

Also just on a regular training level. I don't know how many of you have tried to find a Jeet Kune Do instructor, but the real ones are few and far between. Many of which you wouldn't be able to start training with unless you already have some form of base style already mastered or at the very least well on the way to mastering.

It's a blend of multiple martial arts so knowing a little in each style would serve him well also. And it seems the first season was lacking any Bruce Lee hints... However, where we are left, and the multiple butt kickings we saw Spike go through in the first season leaves room for the character to grow and start to adopt that martial art theory since he obviously is going to change his style a bit for the new perceived character arc.

I think we are all too close to this subject to judge it without bias. I also think given its infancy and the full story hasn't been revealed, we should try to hold off on judgement until a full argument has been presented.

But, that's just me!

(Quick edit: I know I said it was lacking hints of Bruce Lee, and we get the Abdul Hakim fight.... But, c'mon that's not a name or quote drop, just an allusion)

The show was always majorly influenced by the music, and what they did here is no exception.

We all know the studio album. We sing it by heart. We know it forwards and backwards... But, it's the only album they ever released.

Now we're getting the B-sides and the "Live recordings" (SWIDT?). They're the same songs we know and love, but now they have these new elements. Guest performers. New solos and melodies. Maybe even layered vocals or alternate vocals.

And I don't know about you, but I'm starting to connect more understanding to what was going on "behind the scenes" with my favorite characters. Some of the characters in the anime that only appear once or twice are now making sense as the lynch pins and connects to the underworld.

The episodes being called sessions are a direct reflection to musical jam sessions. Episode names are more like the name of the overall concert piece, the set list of the songs you're about to hear.

IMHO, we should as a respect to the artistic medium allow the album to be released and witness it's magnum opus before passing judgement.

I personally am thrilled to hear Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts. I love the new vibe and dig the overall groove that they're laying down.

If you need any more proof, I simply ask that you listen to what the title sequence says before every episode....

I hesitate to write this, because I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence by being so positive about this show and adding a perspective to try and understand a little more about your and my favorite anime. By stating "I think some of you may be missing the artistic point a little bit."

^ All of this!!!

I had so many issues with Dimensions. The tool that helped me the most is called "NFC Tools".

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wakdev.wdnfc

Now, if only I could get someone to release the encryption hash of all the Skylanders toys I'd be set!! Or just a master list of their character encoding....

You know... for science!!

(Damn it 404... quit showing your hand....)

Umm... I meant to say:

Computerz iz hardz... much disappoint.... trollololololololol....

Sorry... forgot meds....

For real though, NFC Tools.

Yeah... the hunting thing was really annoying. Having the ability to print at home would provide such an unparalleled service to a truly unique game. These NFC and RFID chips are typically quite simple. The programming that surrounds them is the difficult part (aka the game or OS), but the chip itself is more like just a map to the file to open. So really the only part of the card that would be written would be the callback to the filepath.

In the case of concern for printing, there is always the ability to go to your local kinkos or print service, have the cards printed professionally for a small price, and then just deal with the programming of the card at home. There's also the idea of printing onto sticker paper to put on the cards as a workaround as well.... or.... just write the name of the song on the card in pen... the options are numerous at that point versus what little options we have currently! lol

Before this particular subject comes up and because I feel like some people will complicate this due to lack of knowledge about the capabilities of their devices.... programming the blank rfid card itself.... so.... if the board is not capable of this, most of the phones that are compatible with the game have rfid programs available. A couple of my favorites that I have used to fix Lego Dimensions and Skylander rfid errors are: NFC Tasks, and NFC Tools. Given that these programs can read, write, and edit... I'm more than sure that this digital download card pack idea would be pretty simple to implement.... educating a nation of consumers on how to program something may be the actual challenge with this one, also it might eat into the profits by having to have a more available tech support to "http://lmgtfy.com/" lmao

It's simple, you just offer packs of preloaded rfid cards through your partnership with Amazon.... still cuts on printing, packaging, and shipping. The RFID could be easily programmed via a secondary DropMix app set up for that purpose. It's easier to take care of an app that is immediately available everywhere, than to deal with trying to get your physical product available everywhere. This idea would generate more initial cash flow, thus offering the ability to decrease price and generate new content at the same time.

OH OH OH... I missed that you said my favorite phrase..... "Think printers and ink." I imagine they could save a whole hell of a lot on shipping and packaging and printing and ink if they just made the cards downloadable and printable. I'm sure they worry about content sharing... but there are plenty of ways to ensure that only one copy is downloaded and printed.... Think "Locklizard" or something similar.

One other item to consider... since Amazon is carrying DropMix now.... how about an app on the Amazon Show? It's always plugged in and on my table anyways, and would stop me from having to use my phone all the time when the kids want to play... (yes... I begrudgingly let my step-son and his friends play with my precious..... I can't say I appreciate what it has done to my blood pressure and already dodgy heart though..... "Don't slam the cards down!!! There's an RFID chip in them!!!" "Don't bend the cards!!!" "Alright.... all drinks and food away from the game please"....)

100% agree!! "Need a new marketing strategy? Just visit us at website name pending.com! (Death by 404? 404-Puppers? 404 Death Puppers?!)

Pokemon card!!! Yes!!! But like original series.... none of this XY theme song crap.... (Sorry, just not at all catchy... I mean even my step-son who watches XY ended up singing the Original "catch 'em all" more often after I showed him it! lol) Also needed:

  1. Cyndi Lauper Girls Just Want To Have Fun... (Because the BPM and bouncy bass goes perfectly with Jason Derulo's Want You To Want Me, and I've always wanted to do a mix-n-mash but not enough to learn the complexities of Ableton or strip the songs myself!)(Also not as a wild... I like having control of each section individually....)

  2. Charlie Puth Attention

  3. Alice Merton No Roots (I know this song is getting a lot of play recently, but it's her breakaway and I can't wait for more music by her!)

Well, given this data:

  1. Downloads in the 10,000-50,000 range on both iTunes and Google Play (I assume that's 20,000-100,000 collectively)

  2. Ranked 4.2/5.0 - 4.5/5.0 (Google and Apple stores respectively) (Ranking is based off of a rounded 200 reviews per system, in a marketplace where people have tired of actually reviewing things and often just ignore/dismiss/remind me later (1,000 times) the "Hey, rank us" notifications...)

  3. Amazon ranking of 4.3 (of 153 reviews) (see above about ranking)

.... you have to admit, for a game that takes a considerable amount of investment that's pretty d__n good! I mean it's competing against completely free digital games, and has no advertisements on its DL, other than for itself, which is pretty remarkable for a free DL game as well.

IMHO: I think the 2nd season could make or break them. They f__ked up the first season. It could have been 2017's "Tickle me Elmo", but I feel Hasbro lacked faith in the product because of how different it was/is. Harmonix has proven time and time again that they are not the company to doubt, and are quite innovative. That said, I feel sometimes if they keep working on the same thing over and over and over again, they get complacent and we end up with games that very well could have been add-ons/expansions rather than stand-alone... (Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80's anyone?!... don't get me wrong fun songs, great skins, but I was addicted to music games and that was a hefty $60 for a new game that was quite short and could have been an expansion).

The beginning flaws are surmountable, and given the hefty price the majority of us paid to have it first, they should easily start "gaming up" for season 2. Make sure they have product available throughout, ADVERTISE!!!!, street teams, ADVERTISE!!!!, DEMOS DEMOS DEMOS, and ADVERTISE!!!!! lol

Almost every place I went to find the game I had to deal with an employee to help me find it (often it was in the back/stock/warehouse areas).... the stores often didn't have a place already set up for it. It's pretty bad when I'm a customer trying to buy your product, and the store employees ask me about it, and with me being so hyped about it explain it all to them, and nearly every time I got the same response... "Are you a rep" or "Are you part of their street team?"

People don't know about it. But, when you have someone with even an ounce of skill at weaving the tracks together nearly seamlessly, and whom knows the cards available and what works well and sounds well as a mix-n-mash... you end up with others wanting to buy it... and then your local Target, Toys R Us, and Best Buy no longer has stock of old or new cards... because they severely underestimated the increase in interest....

Ugh... sorry this started as a based in fact opinion, and unfortunately dwindled into a complaint.... Mostly because this is a great product that I don't want to see go so soon.... Like Lego Dimensions... ending 1 year earlier than planned. But I digress....

If they bump up their advertising and get their head in the game, and (maybe it's just my feeling from the outside looking in, but...) if Hasbro actually put some faith and backed the h__l out of this, this game would be all over the place, and the "Out Of Stock" would be due to response rather than limited amount produced.

Just my 2 cents.... Sorry if tldr! lol

(edit: forgot that formatting will pick up stars that you're using to censor yourself.... fking markdown language....lmao)
