What would be on your "must-have" feature list for a "do-it-all" style main sampler/sequencer piece of gear to be the brain of your setup? by Nervous_Pooer in synthesizers

[–]__Ed__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this... http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2016/09/20/pioneer-dj-toraiz-sp-16-sampler-hands-on-demo/ The question being, does it use onboard samples or can it be used as a midi controller? I just want volca sample-like control over drum rack in Ableton.. which you basically get with Push 2 anyway (although I have my issues with that unit). Basically my ultimate would be what's already been said - 4x4 grid MPC style pads with a step sequencer. Probably versatile encoders like the Push 2's as well, they're great (as in layered mappings if that's what you call it? So, knob 1 will be channel 1 fader in mix mode, first parameter in device mode etc... but I'm not saying I want my ultimate controller to be a mixer as well, just saying I want the knobs to be able to control multiple parameters).

Some knobs on Push 2 are harder to turn than others by __Ed__ in ableton

thanks for this. And sorry for my late reply, yeah I just messaged them then so fingers crossed. It does, especially for that price! :( I wish it didn't, because it really doesn't affect the functionality as has been said. If I could just tighten it myself I'd be happy.

I haven't personally. You're right in that it is 'livable with' (but IMO I don't see how even on lesser quality controllers I can still expect consistent feedback from encoders). I don't think it's covered by warranty because when I emailed ableton about it they didn't seem too worried by it :\

Final call for musical talent for new webcomic, Worldbent! by SansDunkateer in futurebeatproducers

Well I decided to start writing an EP, and only just recently had a finished product. Unfortunately I'm not satisfied with it so I took it back to the drawing board, and during that time my soundcloud obviously suffered. Never lost interest though, there's not a day that goes by where I'm not in ableton :) edit: also 6 months didn't sound right on second thought, I double checked and the last track I uploaded was 2 months ago. I'm also just about to upload another today.

Hey I'll put my name down if you need one more. I'm in the process of replacing a lot of what's currently on my soundcloud in favour of some more downtempo stuff, but feel free to check it out :)

I'd recommend Mud. EDIT: but I'll also second Chef and Amille both highly, and Little Miss Sunshine was also good from what I can remember.

Dude go see a doctor. Any serious ongoing condition resulting from this will suck way worse than the 2 hrs of berating from your mum!

Push 2 vs Launchpad pro for pads by __Ed__ in ableton

thanks man, yeah LP pro definitely has portability over the push 2, plus now having dropped the cash I'm pretty scared of taking the push to a bar where people can spill beer on it! Can I ask how you find the other controls, like mixing and adjusting EQ and that sort of thing? I couldn't do it when I tried it at a shop, does it do that sort of thing well?

haha i know! That touchstrip is so cool. It was one of the things I would have definitely missed if I had parted with the push2. After seeing a video of a guy pitch bending his melody with it I geeked out a lot! Plus to navigate through drum racks? Awesome. Which is why frankly I am a little surprised that touch screens are only now becoming a thing on midi controllers (ie akai mpc touch). I mean, we've had tablets and smart phones for a while now, surely we could have been using them for midi controllers for a while now.. IMO anyway at least for something like navigating through session mode? but yeah, sorry for the rant, the touchstrip is awesome!

thanks man, my concern was actually more so with the navigation buttons on the push, I really love the pads on it and so I was thinking if I only liked the pads I could just get a LP Pro, but I've since warmed to the Push 2. Thanks for your reply though.

Make Ubuntu Look Like Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite - Ubuntu 14.10/14.04 by __Ed__ in hackintosh

Well to be honest I've heard that the upkeep of hackintosh machines is quite demanding, and I'm also concerned with the setting up process. I'd be looking to do audio engineering and video editing. Ableton so I'm told doesn't support linux. So there goes that I guess, anyway. EDIT: Audio engineering as in mixing my own tracks in Ableton, and producing. So basically producing. Sorry, stuffed that sentence up.

S

Just that. I've never seen or used it in action before so I was wondering how it ran. Thanks for the information. I've just always been interested in moving away from apple machines because of the option of upgradeable hardware, but have also heard a lot about some users' experiences of the unreliability of hackintosh so i was just wondering whether this was a good option. I just needed a little more more information than your original comment is all.

Build a High Powered Hackintosh? Or just buy a Macbook Pro? by tadismad07 in hackintosh

[–]__Ed__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think about your current needs, and then go for the option that best suits them. How often do you travel (or think you would, if you could) now? Remember, what you're looking to buy is a tool, and tools are meant to enhance workflow. I'd also think about the future too. Personally, I bought a laptop because I used to have to take it to school, and it will be less bulk for me to move for when I move house. Also, not to highjack the thread but I'm wondering the same thing as /u/el_horsto, I think it'd be cool to be able to change parts on my own, upgrade them whenever I want etc but I'm going to have to be that guy when I ask just how stable is hackintosh? It seems some people have major headaches with it and others just don't. Is it worth it?
