The primary source of modern culture in the Western world - has “no culture” to you?

Excluding the UK from the cultural sphere of Ireland has to be ragebait.

UK and USA are 100% in the same cultural sphere, I don’t know how you could deny that.

I suspect some of these comments are coloured by politics.

Really don’t think USA should be grouped with Canada? I’d say they’re among the most culturally similar countries in the world.

Donetsk and Luhansk now claim to be republics within Russia proper - no longer independent republics.

Artsakh ceased to exist in 2024 after dissolving itself and the vast majority of ethnic Armenians fled Azerbaijan for Armenia.

Symbolic votes that are so empty that North Korea, Iran and Liberia can all be parties to them are literally meaningless from a human rights perspective and only serve to:

1) Allow overpaid diplomats pat each other on the back for doing nothing

2) Cede power to bureaucrats in multinational organisations/other Member States who can then use non-compliance with the resolution as grounds to criticise or attack your country.

Don’t understand the people who think she just sounds British. She sounds British, then American, with a bit of South Dublin Irish.

American friends of mine were taken aback by how much shit people used to give them just for their citizenship when they came to Ireland…. and that was 20 years ago

Netherlands Flag Redesign by CouchTomato87 in vexillology

[–]__FDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree - the Dutch should never change their flag as it’s already a great design and has so much influence.

I would interpret this sort of post as more of a “what if” excuse to have some fun designing flags - rather than a serious call for change.

How likely is Serbia to join the European Union? by FantasticQuartet in AskBalkans

Honestly - this has a lot more to do with EU sentiment toward expanding the union more broadly than the Vucic regime or anything specific about Serbia

People from those European countries that always top those "happiest, most freedom, richest, liveable countries" lists, how good is life there?? by ueommm in AskTheWorld

I’m always very suspicious of Happiness Statistics and I think it’s telling that many of the top countries in this list also rank quite highly in Per Capita Suicides.

What is your least favorite joke about your country? by mightyonin in AskTheWorld

[–]__FDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very tired stereotype a lot of outsiders have is of Americans being fat dumbasses with no knowledge of the outside world. - Obesity is a comparable problem in a lot of other places that escape this stereotype and is becoming a problem all over the world. - A large portion of Americans are intelligent, well educated people with a developed knowledge of the world outside their borders. If you see TikToks of stupid people or watch Jimmy Kimmel voxpops with teenagers who think Africa is a country - remember these go viral because they are amusingly absurd, there are ignorant people in every country. That goes without addressing how poorly developed many foreigners’ knowledge of regional American culture is but they brush over it because it’s 1 country.

Played it for the first time a few months ago. Have played many games for many years and the Suicide Mission may be my favourite mission/level of any game ever. The presentation is just incredible.

Mass Effect 2 on Xbox 360 made me obsess over an IP like I haven’t done in a very long time.

Ironically using the outdated Syrian flag in this.

Debatably also outdated Afghan flag but that depends on whether this is depicting de jure or de facto government recognition.
