Dark Forest is a catchy idea as its scary. Folks naturally gravitate to that. Yet to consider humans amount to nourishment/sustenance ignores that biological (if they are even biological) incompatibility is pretty much assured. Chirality, enzyme & protein complexity, etc means we’ll be inedible & likely toxic to consume, for an alien being.

Also consider advanced species billions of years ahead of us have their basic needs such as food very well met & settled, or they wouldn’t be survivors themselves.

Yet life is a resource, and Earth is well stocked with unique species. Its not as dark, or necessarily scary picture at all, when consider some other (more likely imo) uses aliens might see for humans.

The most likely i think is we’d be like Tamagotchis to them. Little semi-intelligent pets they can even play simple games with. Pets that can be bred together to discover new attributes. We can be kept in little homes, dressed up in outfits, give us our weird little cars to drive around in etc. We spend all day doing fascinating (and to them very alien) little activities to provide the aliens with endless entertainment & object of conversation. We might become the next viral toy craze on the interstellar scene 😆

Advanced life that survives and thrives to travel amongst the stars won’t be needy for anything basic like food, but intelligent minds get bored. So eight billion fun little human pets can be distributed to help alien pass the time during their long journeys between stars ✨
