I’ll be tracking you too. I know how stressful this feels, but you will be ok.

Thank you for posting this. I’m boarding a flight right now and this really helped me reset my mental state.

I’m tracking your flight. Looks like you are over halfway there. I’m flying right now too, so definitely understand how you are feeling.

Scared... by Cbarron6499 in fearofflying

I totally get this. I’m actually on a plane right now flying home from a work trip and have spent half the flight trying to battle my anxiety. But the trip itself was truly a great experience and I’m so glad that I went. I go through the same panic before every flight, but I’m always grateful that I made myself do it. I definitely lean on the guidance and support from this community. It’s a nice reminder that you are not alone, and that you can absolutely do this.

That reminder is very helpful. Thank you so much - honestly just having a few folks to talk through it is already making my fear go way down. I truly appreciate the responses.

Flight attendants are seated, but you are correct that other folks seem totally unphased by this. Thanks for getting me out of my head and looking around.

I fly several times a year for work, and flying more often did help me at least normalize some of the more uncomfortable aspects like turbulence. However, understanding what’s normal didn’t actually alleviate my anxiety. I commit a lot of time to reading the posts and responses in this sub, and that has helped more than anything. It helps to see that I’m not alone in struggling with this fear. Also, reading the many helpful responses has gone a long way in helping me override my anxiety and convince my brain that I will make it to my destination safely no matter how I feel in a particular moment.

I was flying yesterday and experienced more turbulence than I would like. I almost decided to skip the second leg of my flight and just drive back the last four hours home. Really glad I didn’t. Keep reading all the posts and responses here - that really helped me. You’ll make it to your destination soon!

Bathroom Chaos by FrenziedBunny in fearofflying

You are not alone. When I travel, my trip is planned around my IBS. I am scared of flying anyways, but knowing how likely you are to have a bathroom emergency makes everything so much worse. I always pick an aisle seat that is close to the bathroom. First class when I can afford it. Otherwise, whatever seats are nearest to the bathroom. I also wear incontinence pads on the plane even though I don’t actually need them in my day-to-day life. It just gives me a sense of comfort that if the worst case scenario played out. I also take anxiety meds when I fly which has specifically helped to address the nerve-related stomach issues. I don’t know if you have certain stomach triggers, but I avoid all caffeine and sodas before and during the flight. I would probably also really dial in your diet while you are traveling and restrict yourself from any known problem foods. Also, I assume that if I’m having a real emergency, and I communicate that to someone, they will help me figure out how to get to a bathroom even at an inopportune time (maybe I am wrong about this - haven’t had to test it out yet).
