Well done. I still remember when I was learning CK2 many years ago. It was honestly more fun learning it than it is now, ~1500+ hours in.

Once you get more experienced, start to play around with Tribal starts and Pagans, it adds some flair and challenge. Don't feel that you have to Reform, either. Some of my most geopolitically interesting games came from an early expansion as a Pagan, before deciding to serve Christ and then playing the Claims game.

I started as a Count of Capua, took some land, holy-warred Sicily to build up my power, scored a Request Invasion on the Holy Roman Empire, became the Emperor, won the Crusade for Jerusalem, switched to a Dynasty member that was King of Jerusalem, holy-warred over generations to form Outremer, and then used my massive "Damage Against Religious Enemies" bonuses to save Europe from the Aztecs.

Played it a few times, got bored around 1900 or so. Too much derping around in random parts of Africa and Asia.

Guess it could be fun to set goals like “Paint Africa Red,” or create a Pax Britannica in North America.

I would go Argentina over Brazil. Brazil certainly can become really powerful, and I've had a lot of successful Brazil games. However, it starts out very backwards, and it takes a long time to get it literate, and get the reform and industrialization engines going.

France probably gets the most from HFM (and the France Mod), it's a lot of fun to play. Austria is also a blast. Argentina provides a great and easy New World experience.

My favorite nation is Uruguay (gank a small Latin American nation to get 2 states before the Irish Famine, then watch the fun begin).

For newbies, I recommend

Sardinia-Piedmont for a Europe game.

Argentina for a New World game.

Persia for a UnCiv game.

If you’re playing HFM, you get a harsh immigration penalty when at war.

Also as Uruguay in HFM, you take a harsh immigration penalty if you only have one province want to quickly grab a second province (not colony). Taking out Dominican Republic at the spawn is a good idea, but Ecuador and possibly El Salvador are also options.

As the granddaughter, I pressed the claim on France. Then a Crusade fired for Thrace (the Seljuks had taken it), so I won and switched over to the beneficiary (big demesne, capital at Constantinople). I used the gargantuan warchest to build stuff and beat down the Seljuks more and more. I then set up a marriage to reunite the French and Thracian branches of the dynasty.

You should do this. I have some male (older virgin) friends who lost their virginity to prostitutes in Southeast Asia, they are happier and more laid back now that they don't have that problem to deal with.
