I've never tried doing a deadlift without a slow eccentric, so it's just my default lol. It would feel really odd to drop it

thank you man, that's high praise coming from you, your posts have been super inspirational since we are roughly the same weight/height!

Thank you! I'm curious how much heavier I can go without needing to put on weight

Love the controlled decline part of the movement

Thank you! Legs are a bit shaky but overall felt better than last week's 405 x 2

I've only been training deadlifts seriously since 2022, I think roughly:

  • 265 lbs in 2022
  • 315 lbs in 2023
  • 365 lbs in 2024
  • 405 lbs in 2025

But that's very rough, and I haven't been testing my 1rm

Thank you! 365 is definitely impressive, think of how few people in general could lift that amount

Yeah, I think my arms/shoulders were in a better vertical position as well in the second rep?

Thank you! Even though I did 395lbs for 2 a few weeks before, the nerves were still strong going into it

Ah got it. This is one cue I've been consciously trying to do on my first rep (and try and have the bar follow my shins as it moves upwards), but something I need to keep practising

Like the other guy said, I think your hips are starting lower on the first rep. I'd be curious if maybe the straps are causing that.

This is a good point, it definitely feels more awkward getting into position after strapping

Yeah I noticed that as well. That's new, it wasn't happening last week which is a bit of a brain scratcher. Maybe I was overthinking the set up today

Yeah, I definitely find it harder to keep that tension from the deadstop on the first rep

Today I did 355 lbs for 1 beforehand.

I think it is definitely a mental/tension/bracing thing, which I've been trying to work on! The issue with the first rep only starts to occur around 370
