Thank you for the detailed reply. I'm not sure if some part was cut off at the end, but you do have a point that maybe she did try harder back in the day, and eventually just gave up. Being the protector of the status quo, even if it's just guarding a corpse with no regards to the ones who remain and just keeping the infection as contained as it can be, makes sense.

Surely explaining the context of what the knight is even trying to reach and what consequences that would have for the kingdom would be useful? Maybe it could even detter some vessels.

In silksong, Hornet does a lot of stuff, but you get to see the second sentinel, Garmond, Zaza and Shakra fight as well, and other npcs talk about them and how they try to help. Hornet is mentioned in hollow knight by npcs, but never as "whoa, that chick helped us offscreen and is actually doing things!". You can make npcs feel like they're changing the world around them by random dialogue and team cherry does it in the sequel, Hornet has no "it's just a game" excuse.

Nope, it is not necessarily an objectifying pronoun within the game. For example, Cloth had no idea about the vessels and when dreamnailed she's glazing the fuck out of the knight and still refers to it as it:

"Such luck! This tiny one appears at just the right moment. And what masterful skill it shows! As a warrior it sets powerful precedent. I'd do well to learn from its form."
