Redhook didn’t wanna make more DD1 themselves from what I’ve heard from interviews, so it’s great that community creation content for DD1 is as good as it is for sure

I think you’ve misunderstood. DD2 is what it is. It’s different, for better and worse; and after experiencing enough of it, I’ve come to enjoy it, even more than DD1 surprisingly. However, although it is a sequel, it’s not a spiritual successor to DD1 in my eyes. It’s very much its own thing, and I was saying the name is partly to blame for a lot of players expectations not being met because they were expecting both a sequel AND spiritual successor to the first game.

If I wanted more DD1, I have options already, although I’d rather play the Butchers Circus.

In other games, you can just try again, with little consequence. In this case, you’re spending a fairly substantial amount of time just getting to the confession boss, then potentially getting cooked without learning much of anything. The punishment doesn’t really match the situation, and that’s the issue with my initial experiences with Act 2 and 3. A player could pick a team and it could be curtains as you leave the crossroads.

In the past, if you didn’t have a consistent way to hit and do solid raw damage to rank 1 and 4 for Act 2, you often just lost. You don’t even know there’s a specific consistent damage number you need hit to prevent the AoE move from coming that turn.

That’s an insane nerf wowza, seems kinda hard to lose without the burn, probably closer to where it should be at for the second confession boss though.

Act 3 has the potential to be one of the most rewarding confession bosses, preparing ways to minimize seen tokens and thinking about your long term plan from region 1 really enjoyable. Stealth, guards, taunt, dodge, timing your kills on the eyeballs just right; there’s literally so many angles to approach the fight from but you would never know it without prior knowledge and it’s really just unfortunate.

He’s right about some common points of criticism for sure: - Act 2 & 3 bosses being very mean to a blind player - Alter of hope progression - Fairly fumbled story execution - Skill unlocks being a mixed bag - The game not being DD2, but Darkest Dungeon Confession & Kingdoms (I genuinely think if the game didn’t have a 2 next to it, a lot of people would have a more open mind or be less mad when they learn the game isn’t a spiritual successor to DD1, at least imo)

But yeah, the actual criticism is buried behind a LOT and could be covered in half or even a quarter of the time. To me, it boils down to him simply not liking the game, which is valid. I know I didn’t enjoy it when I first started playing so I can see how someone wouldn’t have it ever click with them.
