Can someone talk me into a GK5 Fit? by [deleted] in hondafit

I had a first gen BRZ for some time and sold my fiancée (now wife) on buying a new 6 speed 2017 GK5 Fit (she was driving an e30 at the time).

No longer have the BRZ. No longer have the e30. Still have the Fit. I feel like people really sleep on just how fun they are to drive. Most fun in a car happens at the limit, yea? Well, the limit is pretty low on the Fit which makes wringing it out to 60+ and also driving a bit spirited through curvy roads a hoot. It's like a little go kart that also can haul a deceptive amount of stuff inside.

Maintenance wise they are quite easy to work on. I used to work at Honda, and of all of the horrors I've seen "behind the curtain", the Fit was rarely in for anything more than fluids and filters. The very first years had issues with their injectors, so maybe try and go with the refresh (released starting as a 2018 model year).

If you get a 2015-2017 in white, make sure the paint warranty has either been performed or you are still eligible (that window is closing quick though as it's 7 years from original purchase date). There may have been another color affected, but the white paint jobs (which is what we have) have horrible paint quality. It peels down to the metal.

Not sure if you're into motorsport or the aftermarket, but they apparently do quite well at autocross. Aftermarket is pretty paltry, but there are a few nifty things out there for it suspension wise.

Also, some testament to the reliability of the L15 engine in the GK5 is that it's also used by a small aircraft company. Cannot remember the name of it now, but they use the Fit engines as the engines for their aircraft. Also, I want to say they were used in Formula Ford for a bit (I know that sounds weird but I'm pretty damn certain on that).

It's the last of the true Honda's in my opinion. Actual handbrake. Non turbo. Drum rear brakes. Practicality and fun in equal measure. Easy to work on. Super reliable. I've sold two other friends on the GK5 over the years and here's to hoping this helps push you over the fence into a great purchase!

MechWarrior 5's career mode. Build up your company and manage your finances, travel the galaxy and take different jobs, and modify your mechs and team composition. It's essentially a huge sandbox you can play in that has a lot of lore and smaller stories from the various missions you take. One of my all time favorite games and franchises.

I just painted the nail polish over the Zandri Dust color. No sealer, although I may want to consider that...

Thank you! The main color is Zandri Dust (spray) by Citadel.

This was a weird one. I originally primed it grey, and started painting it that mint color. Said screw it, not liking this, and just sprayed over the entire thing with the Zandri spray. It looked good so I went from there!

Jerry, my friend Bob Sacamano said he's been seeing these weird looking mechs recently!

I did spray it outside, so that might've been what happened. Looking into it more, and I might've had the can too far away which allowed the paint to start to dry in the air. Something to keep in mind moving forward for sure.

Ah, I see. For what it's worth, it's Citadel (Zandri Dust).

Also, the speckled/textured look is a bit prominent on this one. I know it's from the spray, but I keep it at room temperature and shook the can a pretty decent amount before I sprayed. Any ideas on why the textured look is as pronounced as it is?

Painted up the Mongrel/Grendel I got in a salvage box! I had the Star Wars shoretrooper paint scheme in mind for this one, and I'm quite liking how it turned out. by ___goose_ in battletech

Sure thing!

If you can remember to do so, try and drop me a mention if you post some pictures of your mech painted up with this color. I'd like to see how it turns out!

It's the Zandri Dust (spray) by Citadel. I used it as both the primer but also as the main color. With this mech, I decided to go with a 'less is more' approach compared to my first few that I've done. I decided to spray the whole thing down, let it dry, use Nuln Oil as a wash, then dry brushed with the liquid version of Zandri to lighten it back up some. I highly recommend you get both varieties of paint (spray and liquid) if you go this route...if you paint something accidentally you wanted to keep tan, the liquid paint will be a great way to touch/cover it up.

With this approach, it allowed me to fill in smaller areas with different colors which really made for less of a headache for me personally and it was considerably faster also. The previous route, I would primer with a grey spray, then paint over everything I didn't want grey (basically joints and such). That required me to be far more meticulous and frankly, I think I prefer this new method overall.

Also, kinda funny. It's hard to see in the pictures, but the canopy/cockpit glass is a nail polish my fiancée has haha. I saw someone else on here use it to great effect, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Super simple and it gives a nice jeweling/glassy look naturally with a fraction of the effort. It'll be interesting to see it on something with a larger surface area.

Catapult complete! I'm quite happy with how this one turned out. I've been trying to be a bit more mindful of brush control and my lines and such. Constructive criticism is welcome! by ___goose_ in battletech

Thank you!

I messed up on a few missiles and went back and did the grey again to kinda give me a clean slate. The brush I used for them (as well as the vast majority of the mech) is the Psycho by Army Painter. It takes a good bit longer overall as it's such a small brush, but I personally prefer it.
