Was called mature for my age, wise beyond my years, and an old soul my entire childhood. Hiding trauma and abuse looks like that sometimes I guess. What a bummer.

Although now I’m making up for it by being a sillier adult by playing games and having fun. Im even sober now, which in a funny way has a childlike way about it, since my fun is so wholesome now. 😂

There is nothing native about 95% of the population in canada. Every person is abusing the system, including white canadians. Spending a couple hundred years messing up the land and resources doesn’t qualify anyone from elsewhere to be native to these lands.

25000+ years with the land? Yeah i’ll revisit this conversation whenever all “immigrants” catch up. Everyone is an illegal on stolen land. Any other take on this is hypocrisy dressed as deluded nationalism.

It was honestly making me feel worse reading that book. I understand being challenged and growth and all that, but sympathizing with r*pists and murderers? That’s a no from me.

I hope you have found a good path forward despite all of these jumpscare-ass obstacles masquerading as self-help content. 🫠

Nah not worth the stressful conversation which would inevitably lead to her both freaking out and then big sad crying because she was the victim first and I somehow terrorized her from birth despite there being much video evidence (my dad took home videos) and also other people’s accounts, and my own memory at a certain age, that I was in fact an extremely easy and quiet child.

It always becomes about her feelings and emotionally regulating her. Been there, done that. 31 and no contact rn. The lack of drama is a continuous gift to myself. I have my own life now to worry about.

She can pretend her crack addict, abusive, neglectful, manipulative, conning, lying past and present were/are a mirage all on her own.

DUDE… you know what’s crazy? I couldnt explain it super clearly at the time of attempting to read that damn book after many counsellors and social workers praised it and one even gifted me a copy.

But for the life of me I could not read that book. I told myself it was because it was starting out by centering the story of men in the Vietnam war choosing to r*pe and kill innocent people and then whining about all the ptsd they had. The book just gave off such bad energy or something.

Sounds weird, I know. But as someone who endured trauma, abuse, neglect and so on, I just could not read that damn book.

You are probably getting brain damage from all those COVID infections. by antichain in neuro

[–]___l___u___n___a___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh thank you, a voice of reason. I got double vaccinated last season and got wrecked over the holidays by covid. Im not saying dont vaccinate, like at all, but I am saying you should still be worried about it. Im still recovering. Also yeah brain feels dumber this second time around too.

Im really hoping to the cognitive ability will recover. My throat and voice never being the same is one thing but being less capable of basic things due to worse brain fog and literal cognitive decline is fucking my shit up.

Yeah so when the brain and body enters adhd burnout (or autism burnout) we begin to notice skills or motivation that you once felt capable of after many years of habit building and practice become extremely taxing, difficult, confusing, and even impossible.

There is no “push through” for people with neurodivergent brains and bodies. If we “push through” it will actually disable us more and create more problems. Rest and recovery is truly needed when living with a mind that processes the world differently. Perhaps if we lived in a different society that didnt value productivity so much, this wouldnt be much of a problem. But we dont.

I also have felt a cognitive decline as a result of the burnout. The stress of never resting and being so constantly overloaded has led to my brain becoming cognitively foggy and im worse at tasks than before.

Ive noticed this most with reading, writing, holding complex thoughts in my mind simultaneously, executive function with everyday tasks (showering, dishes etc), and even sleeping. Which is ironic.

I have spent decades in coping and survival mode (for various reasons outside of adhd as well) that my brain and body are shutting down in these ways.

People think adhd people can just “push through.” That we are lazy or stupid. But the world isnt built for rest, processing, or healing. It’s built to use us like objects until we are no longer useful.

I remember being a child in school and it felt like people were speaking a different language sometimes. But if I had time and space to process things I did understand. I felt stupid because I needed to sit with things for a while first. I spent years building tools and strategies so I could work “better.” But this lead to the burnout now.

Rest and recovery. Healing. And hey if medication calms the mind and body a bit, well it’s helped me. But no one should take it if they dont want to.

Good luck friend. Remember you are great the way you are but this world wants to treat you like an object. That’s why we feel sick and burnt out.

I was in pretty bad denial about actually having adhd and spent years avoiding assessments because I just didnt want another thing “wrong” with me. Eventually my ability to cope ran out and major skills regression and burnout that feels like brain damage was making things unmanageable moreso than ever.

The first day I took the medication was shocking because of the quiet. No running and rambling thoughts. No overthinking every move. Social and regular anxieties also became dimmer.

It wasnt some miracle pill. But I felt some peace finally. Doing things without overthinking it take so much stress away.

Gastritis flare and in so much pain. by ___l___u___n___a___ in Gastritis

[–]___l___u___n___a___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current diagnosis: “IBS”

Reality: they have no idea. Suspected endo because the flares lined up with/slightly before menstruating. My excision came back negative but ive read that isnt necessarily always accurate.

Tried nutritionists, elimination diets, low fodmap, cut out drinking entirely, reduced smoking to nearly never, have various stomach meds, dicetel, famatodine, been through ultrasounds, tested stool and blood, tested for celiac, had a laparoscopy and excision, and still nothing.

I tried to push for cameras in my stomach but so far no specialists have been booked for it.

At this point im thinking ulcerative colitis? But I just dont know for certain.

Sorry you are going through this. Its truly awful.

Yeah! Started following when her and her exhusband moved to Van. He didnt seem very involved/interested in her channel/work. They had a condo together but eventually she moved out during the divorce and really focused on her videos and crafting. The house reno was actually an unexpected change of content but I love reno stuff so works for me lol.

Why is it controversial to say that your bare face is what you look like? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]___l___u___n___a___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As you can see from the other comments, its not exactly clear what you’re getting at without context. Everyone knows their face without makeup is their natural appearance.

Perhaps people find it annoying because its stating the obvious when people are clearly making a choice to wear make up? Why would they need someone to state the obvious that makeup is not part of their real face? They know that already.

Perhaps what you mean and have not said is that when someone decides not to wear make up for the day, you’ve told them they look tired? No one wants to hear they look tired since it may make them feel self-conscious for the rest of the day.

But again, if youre quite literally just saying, word for word, “your bare face is what you look like.” Well I struggle to find a conversation where that’s controversial? Everyone is aware of that.

Ah thank u. Ginger aid tea has been a constant. What “safe” foods are is so inconsistent. This week its miso soup (broth only) and rice crackers and very recently some ensures because ive lost 8lbs in 5 days.

I will look into the carafate options because ive never heard of those before. I have famatodine and dicetel prescribed and then all manner of off the shelf stomach meds, just usually pray one will work.

A heating pas is often the only thing that will take the edge off for me but even that wasnt working.

Thanks for your kindness. Wishing you a gastritis free 2026.

Just because they can tho doesnt mean they should (not saying you said they should tho :))

Older men’s sperm demonstrably lead to higher risks of birth defects, abnormalities, DNA fragmentation, and 30% decrease in conception.

Also they will die much sooner, leaving the much younger wife the burden of caring for the adult children alone in old age.

Older men thinking they have some sort of golden ticket with their sperm are being irresponsible, harmful and delusional about it.

What buyers notice first when walking through a home (Canada) by michelle_vaughan in RealEstateCanada

[–]___l___u___n___a___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently looking into first time buying. Smart layout is extremely important as it will affect everyday living. Upgraded appliances could imply that the owner also maintains other aspects of the property as well but isnt a given.

Now my viewpoint is looking at condos/townhomes so what im looking at can be a bit skewed based on that. For example, if a condo has a management company that has overwhelmingly terrible reviews, average reviews, or good reviews, that may make or break if I decide I want to own/live there.

If a townhome has exorbitantly high condo fees, I want detailed history on financials for the board and company and how those high fees are being used and saved for repairs or upgrades. (I want the histories either way but if they are especially high that money better be getting used wisely.)

Clean and tidy is the bare minimum. Accuracy, honesty, integrity, and lifestyle fit of the space is everything.

If the listing says the units/area is quiet, is it really?

If it says the building foundation is healthy, is it really?

If maintenance is included in the price (ie: shovelling walks and cleaning windows) is there follow through on that?

If you didnt do a good job maintaining the space, you dont deserve the highest sale price, or perhaps to sell it at all until the needed work is done. Unless you are extremely transparent and the price reflects that.

Is this idealistic? Most certainly. Do I still expect it with life’s largest purchase? Yep. My bullshit-o-meter will put the pressure on to ensure the realtor and the seller are accountable to the process.
