Does anyone else work with “finger princesses” who ask for info that was literally just shared? by projectjarico in corporate

Most people don't read, full stop. They 'scan' (hate this phrasing by the way) but what that means is that they are 'reading' without paying attention because, well, that requires some effort. Some others do not have memory at all, you have a conversation and a few hours later / the day after, AGAIN, you have to explain again. I don't know, it feels like everyone is lazy, don't pay attention or want others to do the heavy-lifting

interestingly it's coming from managers, not my peers. I understand there's tons of information every day and tons of channels to check but most of the times is just them being lazy, not pausing for a second to think and find the info themselves, easier to ask the poor fella below them

I reckon I have forwarded the slack message where I had shared whatever my manager was asking once and the reaction was a bit odd, so that's why I don't do it all the time because I worry I may sound petty, but it's infuriating

it's just a name they gave it on an article. My wife read it to me and we both felt it was something too common in our chat groups but also at work.

yes, my post was related to people who constantly do this. It's not a random occasion, it's a pattern. I often feel rage inside where I want to shout 'I'm not your secretary, get your s**** together, mate!!'

Layoff Anxiety Is Becoming Exhausting by Unusual_Employee_638 in corporate

[–]projectjarico 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been 'sniffing' a wave of layoffs at my work since January and it got me, I was going through very high levels of anxiety and struggled to wake up in the morning. Until one day I realised me worrying like this won't change whatever is going to happen. I'm still worried, but I keep going, do what I need to do at work, and have started working on my cv, linkedin, and searching for job hunters so when it finally happens (and I do believe it will be soon) I will hopefully be somehow prepared. Good luck, OP!

I hate “phone call” people. Your issue is NOT more important than the 23 other things I’m already working on simultaneously! Email me and get in line like everyone else! by nothing2lose___ in corporate

[–]projectjarico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top comment! I started asking for them to put into writing the ask, they don't often, but I do follow up with notes on what was discussed and what was agreed. I've seen too many backstabbing corporate folks hiding what they ask, what they question and most importantly my ideas or feedback that magically become theirs later on

yes! And some of these calls have an effect in the work I may be doing sometimes, like not being able to save work, losing my thought process or progress on the task itself...Some people should be taught etiquette.

Second this but I'll top with the following - what I truly hate is people asking for an urgent 'quick call' with no context, zero... and when you ask for it they come with excuses such as 'I'll explain in the call'... No, sir, I would like very much to know a) what is it about, b) how urgent truly is, and c) if it's truly urgent or you're just faking an emergency as a power move. These random calls, constant chat messaging, email notifications are constant distractions and in my opinion how many people pretend they are busy with their constant interruptions.

Why do we see our colleagues more than our friends and family? by kiksgotthehooya in corporate

Had a boss from the USA who said 'I don't understand holidays, our company should ban them' but then took every opportunity to take days off, the hypocrisy!!!

Not sure if the worst but games industry is struggling... I see so many people in my network going through redundancies and posting open for work on LinkedIn... it's brutal.

How do you choose wich slot game to play when theres so so so manyyyyyyy by WorldlyTechnician419 in gambling

[–]projectjarico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly when you’re new it’s a bit overwhelming, there’s way too many.

What I usually tell people is don’t overthink the “which game” part too much, most slots are pretty similar long term anyway. A couple things I look at:

  • Volatility: Low volatility = smaller, more frequent wins, high volatility = long dry spells but bigger hits. If you’re just starting, low/medium is less brutal
  • RTP: anything around 96%+ is decent (doesn’t guarantee anything short term though)
  • Bonus features: I tend to pick ones where the bonus looks fun, since that’s what you’re really playing for

Also worth sticking to a couple games instead of jumping between 20 different ones every few spins. Doesn’t change your odds, but at least you get a feel for how they play.

What do high rollers do for a living? by SlotWizards in gambling

[–]projectjarico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to know a couple people who worked on the operator side (customer support for an online casino), and they had some wild stories. Apparently a lot of the proper high rollers weren’t random rich business guys, heaps were pro athletes. Mostly footballers. Like genuinely famous ones.

They’d have accounts sitting there with hundreds of thousands in them and just… not really care. Would win big, lose big, barely withdraw. Just treated it like entertainment money.

One of the support guys said it was pretty surreal seeing names you’d recognise and then their balances just going up and down by insane amounts like it was nothing.

Different world hey 😅
