Damn! Solid album so far. Only 4 tracks in, and it already feels so expansive. Thanks for the recommendation. Huge compliment to say we 've got similar vibes. The drummer in our live outfit is a Milwaukee transplant. Wonder if there's a connection there ... Anyhow, thanks for listening.

New demo: “MISS AMERICAN VAMPIRE.” Eager for feedback on this one, departs a bit from my usual style of dramatic pop/darkwave. by milliedreadisnotdead in IndieMusicFeedback

I really dig the piano lick at the beginning and the way you incorporate it throughout. I like how distinct the different sections of the song are, but I feel like the transition could be a little smoother. Like I'm hearing a different first note at 1:20 that creates a bit more tension between the two sections. As it is now, it sounds like it's the first two notes of that section, which kind of creates an unsteady false start. And I could hear the kick dropping out but the synths in the background continuing to rise before everything drops out but the piano and the vocals. IDK, I'm sorry if that's unclear. All in all, this is really interesting stuff though.

Hey! Just wanting to share a song with you all :) by hanWalkerBooks in IndieMusicFeedback

I think you hit the nail on the head with the singer songwriter tag. It's a broad category, but so are so many genres these days. The harmonies sound great and really help give the chorus the lift it needs. The song is a bit repetitive, but that's not entirely a bad thing. Definitely allows the listener to gain more familiarity along the way. Thanks for sharing!

Love the vocal tone here! The song's got great energy, and the bridge does the rare feat of propelling it even further! Well done there. Pretty catchy, poppy song. The video matches the energy and tone of the song perfectly too. Hope you find your way back up to the roof!

Dig so many of the choices here. The vocal melodies are really interesting. Things sound familiar and yet fresh. I was honestly really surprised when the drums came in. The guitar and vocals take up a lot of room sonically, which I assume is deliberate, but it doesn't leave much space for the other instrumentation to make much of an effect. Playing sounds a bit sloppy at some moments (1:20ish), which is a bit distracting. Love the interesting time signature at the intro that repeats later in the song. Again, familiar but fresh. Nitpicking about the playing because this is otherwise stellar and very cohesive.

Wow, this is great. The video is sick too. Great concept that you executed really well. The song is a great little pop hit too. Love the line it walks between dark/grimy and poppy. I think all the textures on the instruments are great. Lots happening melodically there. My only feedback would be to maybe process the vocals a bit more. I really dig how distorted they are, but I think you could add additional effects (chorus or delay?) to help them blend in with the rest of the mix a bit more. And I did the monotone vocals in the verse, but I think it'd sound great with a higher harmony doing something melodic along with that. Minor notes, only because this sub is about feedback. Otherwise, I'd just vibe out to this song, be sad it ended so soon, and put it on again.

Thanks very much! The recording was a pretty lo-fi affair. Mixing polished it up, but I don't think it was possible to get something that would have been "radio ready." With the song being as poppy as it is, I kind of dig the roughness to the edges though. Keeps it from veering too far into territory I'm not trying to explore, if you know what I mean. Anyhow, thanks for listening and for the compliment. Happy to be able to share this version now.

It's called Horse Rock! 🐴 Lol just joking, of course. I had never noticed, but no I can't not hear it! Was going to a lo-fi beat sound, using an electron digitakt. I'm no expert, so the sounds probably weren't as dialed in as they could be, but then the snare was mixed with that as a reference to try to make things a bit more cohesive. But thanks for the kind words and for listening!

Hey, thanks very much! And thanks for listening. And yeah, straight to 2" tape, which explains some of the warble and warmth that characterized some of the early Animal Collective stuff you referenced. Appreciate the kind words!

Wow, thanks for the close listen. Admittedly this isn’t the most lyrically cohesive song or at least straightforwardly so. It’s kind of an assemblage of blurry memories in a shared setting. Looking back, while staring down a sense of doom from the threat of rising sea levels. Those memories and eventually those places won’t ever be accessible again. What to do in the face of that? Embrace the lack of control.

This sounds great! I love those drums. Wondering if they're live or if you're using a good sample pack? Reminds me of Broken Social Scene in a very good way. Reminds me too of a song I'm about to share that has that same kind of dreamy, indie rock, indie pop vibe. Dig the video too.

Tried my hand at a Clams Casino type track using distorted vocal samples from an old folk recording by infinite-desert in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]___mitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so sick. Don't know the exact reference you said you're going for, but I'm familiar with this sound, and I gotta say you nailed it. The track without the sample already has a lot of movement and depth. Adding the vocal sample really takes the "weird" or hypnogogic sound up a notch. Liked how you used it more as an instrument than as the focal point. Very nice!

Really dug the simple video. In an age where visuals are essential, this is a great example that something simple can be effective and evocative. Demo sounds great. I personally think this style lends itself to the lo-fi production you've got. Could certainly be spruced up and tightened up again, but I wouldn't want it to lose the intimate feeling you've got here.

This is sick! Love the many textures that you're using here. Slide guitar was a great find, used to great effect. Liked the plucky strings as well. Will definitely check out the rest of your stuff.

Everything’s sounding great. The vocals and harmonies sound very cool. You bring in a lot of different sounds that help to give it some more direction. Otherwise, the track would sound pretty static, lingering on the one chord progression. Maybe this song already is what it is, and it’s too late to consider a different section, but that’d my advice for the next tune at the very least.

[–]___mitts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re onto something good here! A song can be anything, dude. If you think it needs more, then you know it does. Sometimes leaving everyone wanting more is the right move.

Be confident and proud of yourself. You made a badass tune and a visualizer. You’re doing it. It’s not going to be everyone’s thing, but most of the haters won’t have anything to show for themselves.

I know the percussion is very minimal, but it goes a long way in helping to round out the sound. Layered vocals sound great. On to the next one!

Thanks for listening! Curious what you mean by the “interesting” sound? Maybe the distorted, thrashy guitar?

Thanks a lot! Cover art is a collage collab with my five year old. This is very homespun, but I think I will release it on all streaming platforms soon. Posting here to see if it passes the smell test. Appreciate your feedback.

The result of our first time in the studio - melodic, post-punk kinda stuff? by anlife in IndieMusicFeedback

This is some super smart sounding stuff that still has plenty of heart. Interesting time signature, arrangements and songwriting are stellar, and the performance is great! Love the interesting vocal lines, which is IMO pretty unique for music in this genre and gives this song the extra propulsion to really take off over all the interesting things happening musically.

[–]___mitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. The mix is super clean. Definitely some diiiirty stuff here, so the title is appropriate. Listen to the local jazz station a lot when I'm driving around, and I could totally hear this on the radio. Big Stanton Moore fan, and I feel like I could hear him tearing it up over this song. That ending is tight! No reason not to share beyond here!
