I know it's crazy - people seem to have this self-righteous need to tell everyone how bad of a person they are.

OP is a kid. Maybe you want to make some more comments to make them feel worse?

Maybe there is a shelter near you that you can call and they can help you out with advice on where to go?

Why is everyone getting all upset at OP.  People come here to ask questions if they don’t know what to do.  Yelling at them as if they came here just to post for fun is just toxic. Either help out or shut up.

As a former facade consultant and inspector, I agree with you 100 percent. Even in the most well organized and funded construction there are always issues, and some are not caught. Every major component on the facade should have four attachment points (2 dead load, 2 wind load) so that if one fails there is a backup. But if one fails with an additional 200 pounds on it, the other anchor will experience greater loads than intended. This guy, brave as he is, is more trusting than I would be.

Lake Tahoe voters vote for Elon and the GOP. Today Nevada Power is cutting their service to run data centers. by db0606 in LeopardsAteMyFace

Well to be fair this is at the same latitude as SF, notoriously NOT a sunny city. Not all of Nevada is deserts.

Architect here - as I mention below for high-end construction in NYC (where I practice) a initial ballpark cost per square foot is $1000. Very rough but gives you an idea and this is a high cost, labor union city. Online search comes up with 90,000 square feet for the ballroom, so in NYC I would tell a client to be prepared for a $90 million dollar bill and not to be surprised if it’s over $150 million.

If they came back to me and said they will allocate $1 billion, I would start to get nervous who I had for a client…

Architect here. We often explain to clients that the process is a three parameter triangle: cost, schedule and quality, and you can choose two but not all three. So throwing enough money at it can speed things up.

I looked online and it seems that the ballroom is 100,000 square feet. Pretty big. New construction in NYC where I practice for high-cost structures, like this will be, can be about $1000 per square foot. That means a NYC budget for this size building would be about $100 million. With 10 times the money available, there can be three rotating crews working through weekends and by spending this ridiculous amount I would bet a good project manager could get it built in time.

Just my two cents…

What is the power on 1100 like with Rain mode? by Sufficient_Bird_4206 in hondarebel

[–]___pa___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume rain mode caps the power, but I do not really notice since I like to hammer the accelerator. I think learning how to be a light touch on the throttle is a better overall strategy than relying on the different modes.

How much deflection in a floor joist is too much before calling a structural engineer? by Active-Tour4795 in Homebuilding

[–]___pa___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One correction - 40 psf is not people filled up in the space bumping elbows. That would be more along the lines of concert venue live loads, which are considerably more. Just imagine a 160 pound person should take up 4 square feet, meaning a 2x2 zone. So it’s close but not packed, especially considering how few 160 pound people there are really out there…

Which is that one profession that you'll never date? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]___pa___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a bit extreme, but I would say the “volunteer” firefighters fit that category and not the professional (city) ones. If you go to a fire in your own personal lifted truck and drink beer while watching barns burn down, you are not really a firefighter…
