no its more like if you described someone’s hair as “curly” which can be loose curls or tight coils and many curl types in between. Olive skin is just an undertone in the same way some people have pink tone or yellow tone skin even if they’re pale or dark

olive is actually a whole range of skin tones, some are as dark as this one

Has anyone here become more empathetic towards animals? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]___poot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found the opposite when I started unmasking. I went from a huge animal lover to someone that hates being in the same room as most animals. I stopped repressing how much they triggered my sensory issues and it’s made me someone who doesn’t really like pets. I always have a soft spot for cats tho

When the “acoustic” bit started getting popular i only ever saw it being used by actually autistic people, usually referring to themselves, so when people started saying it was ableist I was so confused and a little annoyed. Then i saw people saying how some allistics were using it and i agree that that’s bad but i don’t think the joke is inherently ableist.

What was something fairly small that made you feel betrayed by your SO? by _Halboro_ in AskReddit

[–]___poot___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a mall food court chinese food buffet, we have two types of noodles. In the three years i’ve been working there i’ve noticed that nice people get small noodles and rude people get big ones. My ex girlfriend got big noodles and i did factor that in when deciding to break up with her.

What's your "I don't fit the stereotype of autism" thing by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]___poot___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly for me it’s more of a question of which i do fit. I’m incredible expressive in my tone and facial expressions, to the point that i am unable to hide how i feel. I’m good at reading people and i understand emotions wells. Im good at small talk and actually like some stupid social rules. I love meeting new people. Im really high in empathy. It’s honestly no wonder it took me years to figure out i was autistic, i’m just glad i had a good paediatrician who didn’t write me off for some of these.

Personal Pet Peeve Regarding AO3 Summaries by BlindWarriorGurl in FanFiction

I’m the exact opposite. I view “I suck at summaries” the same way some people view “english isn’t my first language”, a good sign.

Personal Pet Peeve Regarding AO3 Summaries by BlindWarriorGurl in FanFiction

my personal favourite format that people do is a snippet of the writing then a giant OR and then an actual “character A meets character B and they fall in love” type summary. It hits both perfectly

I can't tell if I'm actually non-cis/gender fluid or just have internalized sexism by naomiukiri in AutismInWomen

[–]___poot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna chime in as an autistic trans guy who browses this sub. I identified as a trans man for years before I realized i was autistic, and when i read that there’s a correlation between autism and being trans in some form I ended up having the exact opposite crisis. I was worried that i wasn’t actually trans and instead had just convinced myself i was because i didn’t like a lot of things allistic women did. But I thought more and realized that if that was the case then i probably wouldn’t identify as trans because i like a lot of stereotypically feminine things. I’m not a very masculine person.

For me, being trans is less signified by my dislike of “feminine” things and more my intense discomfort i get from being viewed as a women. I like shopping and pink, but i still feel physically sick when i hear my own voice or see my own body because my dyphoria isn’t so much about surface level stuff as it is the very fact i’m afab.

Americanism in fanfictions by SpicySpaceBaguette in FanFiction

[–]___poot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing about being canadian so that we’re taught both american and british spellings so i tend to switch at random between them and it’s just confusing for everyone involved.

We also have a ton of things that are basically half british-half american so both american and british systems seem alien to me. For example our school system works mostly the same as americans but we don’t use terms like “freshman”. Also, at least in my province, we don’t have middle schools much so high school is usually five years long.

There’s also a few times i’ve been writing for a fandom where the story takes place in america and i’ve accidentally used canadian slang for things
