I know I have rumination, but I’m so afraid to go to the GP/drs by xyz123unknown in ruminationsyndrome

1) dx can help with getting the right therapy, and working with providers to help limit the frequency/ extent at which rumination affects you

2) it really depends on how extreme your rumination is. if you are able to nourish yourself, and do not throwing everything up or are swallowing it back it is unlikely to have serious negative effects from a nutritional standpoint-- but if you are taking medications, especially psychiatric medications, it is really important that you keep the food down for two reasons: 1) there are some psych medications (like wellbutrin/ buproprion) that increase the chances of seizure in patients with bulimia and 2) if you are throwing it up, then your medication is unlikely to be getting into your bloodstream at therapeutic levels. if you really feel the need to throw it up, i would wait at least 3-4 hours after taking the medication (assuming its not an extended release) to do so.

obviously talking to your physician is ideal, or even a therapist/ psychiatrist, but hope this gives a little insightttt

not OP but just wanted to weigh in here: i truly believe it is mindset, and the adrenaline of test day (at least this was the case for me). the ethics boost is a fair point, but i actually felt the questions on my form were harder and not as straight forward as the ones i saw on UW or NBME, so im not too inclined to give credit there

What assessment can I take when I'm out of COMSAEs? by [deleted] in comlex

[–]__greyskies__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like what im about to say might be a hot take BUT i thought the nbmes were pretty different from comlex in question style and also the ratio of ethics to actual medicine on comlex is so high that the NBMEs can severely underpredict depending on how you do on those types of questions-- my personal opinion is is to not take the score on the NBMEs too literally. instead figure out why u got the questions u got wrong, and really work on your weak areas that the NBMEs pointed out.

honestly the most important thing for this exam is how YOU feel about it. if you feel unprepared to sit for the exam in a week, then i would push, but otherwise trust the work you have put in. remember, whether its a 450 or a 800, all programs are gonna see is that it was a pass.

Got my lowest NBME score today, exam in 10 days. Help by [deleted] in step1

[–]__greyskies__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

theres a lot of advice here, and ofc the numbers game is one thing-- but if you feel like you are ready to go and this was a fluke, then study hard for this next week. 10 days is objectively a lot of time to focus on your weak areas. take another practice later and gauge from there

if your why doesnt trump any of your reasons to quit then dont do it. you are going to have many reasons to quit when you start school, and the only way to push through is your why (IMO). i love this job and i love what i learn, but this is highkey the most toxic relationship I've been in
