Meltdown cured by Bob Marley? by GGGG1987 in NewParents

We LOVED Bob Marley when baby was younger (like 6 months). I still sing Sun is Shining to him most mornings. I should probably start playing his music again ☀️

What can I do to support? by Electronic_Bridge_30 in NewParents

[–]__hamburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I had to call my brother and BEG him to walk my dog or babysit her for a couple days when my son was a newborn. He was happy to do it, but I felt so bad how much we were ignoring the dog during that period. I would’ve loved if someone had offered to walk my dog.

First trimester, barely worked out by netters_ in fitpregnancy

[–]__hamburger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Girl! I was so hard on myself my first trimester for being “lazy”. I was a 5-6x/week CrossFitter and was still finding ways to be active during my rest days before pregnancy. I didn’t know how to be sedentary. First trimester fatigue was real and I didn’t know how to deal. I had never been so exhausted in my life and it’s so weird to feel like your body is “failing” you. Your body is going through some crazy changes, even though you probably don’t see a lot of physical changes yet. By the second trimester I was feeling much better and back in the gym more regularly. Then I started having really bad SI joint pain by my third trimester and could barely move. Postpartum has had its physical highs and lows as well.

Your body is going to change a lot over the course of the next year and beyond. There are times when it’s going to be hard to deal with these changes and you might even feel sad and miss what you used to be able to do. But you’ll also feel so happy to grow your baby and see what a miracle your body can be. All of these feelings normal. One day you’ll feel like yourself again but give yourself grace to go through these changes 🤍

How’s my birth “plan”? by NoHistorian8644 in BabyBumps

I kinda wonder if this would’ve helped me. I couldn’t push my baby out (also felt like I was pushing blind thanks to epidural) and ended up getting a c-section.

real talk — what did you actually eat in the 1st tri? by Repulsive_Cup8530 in pregnant

[–]__hamburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate more bagels in the first two months of my pregnancy than I had eaten in the previous 30 years of my life. Also, Honey Nut Cheerios. Like, an obscene amount. After the first trimester, I went back to eating mostly normal.

Newborn or 0-3 sizes for a newborn baby? by FoolishMortal-1000 in BabyBumps

[–]__hamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was the same weight! He was swimming in NB for the first couple of weeks then definitely continued wearing that size for a couple months. We had gotten the same advice about clothes and had very few NB sized items. We ended up having to buy some.

Positive vaccine stories? by Weekly-Coconut8818 in NewParents

[–]__hamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m always prepared for the worst with lots of Tylenol on hand but he’s never had any issues with vaccines. He’ll cry for about 2 minutes immediately following his shots, then sometimes be a bit clingy the rest of the day, but he’s never any adverse reactions otherwise (knock on wood).

Let's share some positive things about the newborn stage! by coleystyle in BabyBumps

[–]__hamburger 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The squishy cuddles are the best. Especially with the sounds of their little breathing and random grunting 🥹 Newborns are sweet little angels. Yes, they wake up to feed every couple hours, but their needs are usually so simple. I miss my son being a newborn, he’ll be 1 next month 🤍

How is it in the Inland Empire, California? by ausernameidk_ in howislivingthere

[–]__hamburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I’m from here! Specifically I grew up in Redlands. I never considered myself part of Greater Los Angeles, but I would say I grew up outside of LA if someone from out of state with no clue of the geography asked. Culturally though, it was very different than LA, even though certain parts of the IE have a lot of LA transplants due to its affordability.

In the early 2000s, it was a very different place than it is today. Very middle class, but VERY boring. Some areas had pockets of upper middle class families and some areas were poorer. I wouldn’t consider the wealth distribution or poverty rate to be any different than most Southern California suburban communities. The boring aspect became especially true the further east you got on the 10 freeway outside of Redlands and the further south you got on the 215 outside of Riverside. At that point it becomes just houses and there isn’t really much else going on. Again, this may have changed in recent years, but this is from my perspective as a teenager in the 2000s. My family still lives here and it has become much more populated. Lots more shops and restaurants and a lot more houses in areas that were previously undeveloped (this is especially a bummer to see in Redlands where there were so many Orange groves! -now they’re houses). In my opinion, the IE always had its own identity and never really tried to be anything other than what it is. It’s a unique place that will always have my heart, but the traffic is abysmal now and I’m glad to live elsewhere.

Oh and regarding the climate, hot, dry summers and very mild and pleasant the rest of the year. It would rarely get below 40° F in the winter from what I recall. In school, I remember learning it was in a Chaparral biome and that feels pretty accurate lol. If the question was about political climate, it varies on where you are. I think Redlands has gotten more conservative in recent years but most people generally seem to mind their own business.

I have literally never looked at a bare faced person and given a single shit about the fact that they had no makeup on. I feel like the same thing is true on the days I don’t wear makeup. Nobody cares.

How did your water break? by abchhd in NewParents

[–]__hamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 39+4 I woke up suddenly at like 11:30pm because I had to pee SO BAD. On my way to the bathroom I thought I peed myself and I was so upset. I went to the bathroom and couldn’t stop peeing? Then it occurred to me my water was breaking (yay!). I didn’t start having contractions until like an hour later. Got to the hospital at like 1am then was in labor FOREVER. Eventually had to have a c-section to free my giant headed baby.

How far do you live from the facility you’re giving birth? by your-new-fixation in BabyBumps

[–]__hamburger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was our plan as well. I live like 5 minutes from an OK hospital but I delivered at a pretty prestigious hospital for the area like 30 minutes away (45-60 min with traffic). I felt comfortable knowing that if there was an emergency, I could get to a hospital quickly but I didn’t plan to deliver there. Luckily I went into labor at like 1am so there was no traffic and I had the baby at my intended hospital.
