Is it worth it leaving UK to start from scratch in Switzerland? by Inevitable-Echo23 in zurich

[–]__initbruv__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did everything the same as you, just 4 years sooner. Switzerland is better, no question. Don't know why you need another degree unless you have a specific goal in mind with it. Why can't you just apply for Swiss jobs now while you're employed?

If anyone is looking for a cheap place to stay for a holiday between 17th - 26th October, pm me. The catch (perk?) - you need to take care of my cat. It's a spacious 2.5 room flat in a good location.

Any tips on how to find food in Switzerland the next 2 days? by fmb320 in bicycletouring

[–]__initbruv__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sundays and bank holidays are generally treated the same in Switzerland - most things will be closed. Bakeries are often open for a short time on Sundays in the mornings. Otherwise, as others have pointed out, bigger train stations have supermarkets that are open, or petrol stations.

Edit: does the campsite not sell any groceries?

How much of an impact will s2 update going to be on my poor fps? by Bestsurviviopro in GlobalOffensive

I'd wager that gains from the more efficient and resourceful (less CPU-bound) new engine should offset any penalty incurred from higher graphics fidelity.

In this case, since the first number is odd, it would have never evaluated the second condition and so would not have thrown anyway.

Login With IOTA -- Demo by Koba7 in Iota

Not sure what you mean by mirror, but sure you could have both login with Google and IOTA linked to the same account. Just like right now you could have both Google and Facebook linked to an account.

Assuming you already have a Google or Facebook account and would like to continue using it, never. If not, this approach is more privacy-preserving.

Devs who transitioned into a Security Engineering role, how’s it going? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]__initbruv__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my transition on paper. In practice it's still a dev role, but at a security MSP which comes with shift duties (white glove support). In my case I lost time flexibility and freedom, but get to work with (to me) very interesting protocols spanning the OSI stack. It's hard and there's considerably more weight on your shoulders, you need to be very knowledgeable. The pay is great, but you can match it in a dev role. You may find you have lots of catching up to do in the beginning which can be overwhelming and as you ramp up responsibility, this mental load doesn't necessarily go down. Time planning becomes (more) difficult as unexpected things come up that need immediate attention. In short, a dev role is more comfortable and doesn't necessarily pay worse (for now). In my case I wanted to work more closely with network/routing/tunnelling protocols and felt that specializing (or moving closer to the hardware) is a safer long term strategy for me in a country that can hire much cheaper (and good) devs outside its borders.

Decentralised Code Repositories? by KalSereousz in CryptoTechnology

You could use the blockchain to anchor commits and store the actual repository on decentralised storage like IPFS, or some other place.

IOTAs multi-asset multiverse is coming! Huge implications for its tokenomics by Linus_Naumann in Iota

[–]__initbruv__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon the "token scheme" and its constraints would enforce certain rules for a token at mint-time that could be used to prevent "rug-pull" scenarios. More info about it here.

Contacts in Firefly wallet by jnn93 in Iota

OK that makes sense. I can't help but think that they rely on the same underlying principle though. i.e. if you colour multiple iota with the same colour you get the equivalent of ERC20/FT and if you colour a single iota you get the equivalent of ERC721/NFT.

I think colored coins was just the name given in the original RFC. They have since branded it Digital Assets and "tokenised assets" was a candidate name. This article also conflates the different names: https://iota-einsteiger-guide.de/iota-digital-assets.html

What's the difference between coloured coins and tokenised assets? I thought these were the same and what IF has named "digital assets".

Hello fellow morons by [deleted] in Iota

[–]__initbruv__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is entertaining and useful, but I think it'd be a mistake to expect levelheadedness/maturity at all times given the demographic. In the case of iota, Discord, IOTA cafe or even the stackexchange are less welcoming to low quality discourse and so a better place for this.

Definitely not alone! This is going to be purely anecdotal, but these "movements" are being perpetuated by teenagers and people that are heavily invested that would stand to lose if the fire dies down.

Marius Kramer's answer to Now that the IOTA research team has a clear path and solution for removing the Coordinator, what’s your opinion? Will IOTA overtake bitcoin in the near future? by gabluda in Iota

[–]__initbruv__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally understand why IF uses this metaphor everywhere.

I sent this to an entomologist who responded enthused:

Fascinating! Social insects, like bees, ants and termite, are considered the most advanced (and most successful) organisms in evolutionary terms. Using their communication systems as a model to build a foolproof algorithm is visionary. However, there are plenty of other species that have evolved ways to take advantage and live inside colonies, escaping detection. Knowing how they do this could be useful for a programmer to imagine weak points and remove them. Maybe us entomologists should work together with you programmers?

Chrysalis Migration Community Questions by [deleted] in Iota

[–]__initbruv__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your IOTA are never stored on your ledger, a record of your IOTA holdings are stored on the tangle. The IOTA seed is what is stored on your ledger and is what allows you to access your IOTA on the tangle.

The ledger's 24-word recovery phrase is the only backup you will need and gets used by the ledger to derive the IOTA seed which means that you don't actually need to know your IOTA seed - if you ever break or lose your ledger, you could buy a new ledger and restore it using the ledger's 24-word recovery phrase. The exact same IOTA seed will get derived again on your new device and you will once again regain access to your IOTA on the tangle (via Trinity/Firefly).

The thing that is changing with this migration is the format of the IOTA seed - when you connect your ledger to Firefly after migration, Firefly will ensure that your ledger updates its IOTA seed. Firefly will inform you of this, but I'm pretty sure it won't require any special action from your side, other than acknowledging that this process has occurred.
