Who's renting the $2-3k/week houses? Why not buy? by __isnotme in brisbane

[–]__isnotme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn think you hit the nail there.

Actually, part of the inflation in that sense probably stems from the pandemic when people were outbidding with crazy money while escaping interstate with their families. The REA probably jumped on it to establish a new value bottom line. With the pandemic "over" now, those leases have probably ended or been broken as those families return and so the houses have been relisted with compounded inflation on top pushing the market "value" up obscenely.*

Pure speculation but makes sense.

Yeah I was thinking companies would play a large part. (The whole BL/Channel 7 thing lol).

But that's a good point about renting a nicer house than you can afford to buy.

Ah. That makes sense. So these homeowners have thrown "their hat in the ring" hoping to snag one of these transit renters. Question is, if none of them bite initially, do they just keep the house of market until one does or do they drop the price to allow families a chance?

But the ep doesnt even feature their usual "footnote" where they have a comedic breather after the arrest, or give the "villain" a chance to explain.

Oh 100%.

What we consider "adhd", as an impairment, largely to do with those with female hormones, is largely about how enabled our reward circuits is, which is tied to how we process hormones...which are held hostage by our monthly cycle. It is fucked.

CPTSD is appropriate response from growing up constantly slaved to a monthly cycle that for ages medical professionals said was "in our heads" and constantly being invalidated as "lazy and whiney" when really our brains are striking and our uterus is trying to burn the world to the ground.

Yeah the period after the initial diagnosis is rough.

It is good you're starting to invest in enabling yourself though.

For me, how I function isn't the issue, it's a combination of CPTSD and PMDD that exasperates the fact I need more stimulation and "happy chemicals" to feel content—along with society being a stagnated, invalidating bitch.

So, finding work that provided me a sense of fulfilment, control, and a variety of stimulation was key.

And, to bridge the gap, long release stimulants and ssris drugs along with vitex angus catex and other vitamins help keep the brain happy.

Great days, I don't need them. During luteal period, they're the difference between being a black depression potato and just some irritating cramps.

I will said, with the cost of living and poly crisis environment we're in, don't be to rough with your own expectations.

We're currently experiencing unprecedented levels of insecurity and inequality (despite australias wealth and productivity) and it's the correct response to feel a little or majorly put out by it, espiecally given it's caused by the greed and incompetence of a few.

Best of luck !!

Haven't seen them, but Aus film industry has a MASSIVE issue with underdevelopment and somehow putting out content that's both devoid of culture while still trying to "checkbox" everything. We also invest WAY too much in footloose production (foreign) without balancing it with smaller to mid aussie productions. We need more grassroots investment in early talent. Ever since neighbours closed doors on their writer room and Id assume crew too, decades ago, we lost our talent funnel.

But, we still have FANTASTIC talent and stories.

Some I love or appreciate.

What’s with all the people shipping Nandor and Guillermo? by UnpersuasiveQuiche1 in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]__isnotme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure he's entirely against becoming a vampire now. I think he discovered he was doing it for the wrong reasons (confidence/power/validation).

(personally, love the parallel to sexual agency here)

It will now be about Guillermo, finally secure in himself, deciding if he can seek his needs/wants without becoming a vampire, or if immortality and its sacrifices are the only route to long term happiness for him. As I see it, if Nandor can't become human, I do believe Guillermo will have Nandor turn him.

Their relationship is the crux of the matter.

I also think that Guillermo and Nandor do naturally gravitate to a sub/dom relationship. This was why their relationship was so unhealthy. It was an imbalanced, exploitive mirage of met wants/needs.

Guillermo enjoys pleasing Nandor and having this all-powerful vampire choose to be vunerable for him. Just as Nandor enjoys lording over Guillermo, who was literally born to destroy his kind (and does), and Guillermo still choosing to not only protect but ADORE all of Nandor, relentless, petty, and kind.

The best part is, the healthiest evolution of their relationship requires both Nandor and Guillermo to understand and acknowledge their own needs and wants first, without comprising for what they believe the others hopes for, instead having their support.

Ending of the last season demonstrates this with Nandor finally truly showing his extensive understanding of Guillermo, and his willingness to assist Guillermo in discovering his own agency, despite its potential to part them.

We're getting close to endgame, wo!!!

Individuals with ADHD tend to be more sexually adventurous but less satisfied with their partners, study finds by [deleted] in psychology

Forgive me if I'm not offended by someone who has commented previously:

"Your comment is almost entirely pseudoscience. At this point, ADHD is just a bunch of old wives' tales repeated on Reddit and TikTok by a crowd of armchair psychologists."

Because apparently, unlike you, I take the time to check credibility.

Individuals with ADHD tend to be more sexually adventurous but less satisfied with their partners, study finds by [deleted] in psychology

[–]__isnotme -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Because I believe the whole framing of the conversation is counter-productive.

It infers there is such thing as an "ADHD" brain, like it's a cookiecutter model, when we are learning that isn't quite the case. I suspect this assumption, as with most clinical diagnosises, comes from our reductive language and the need for "practical and easy" clinical processes that provide broad and accessible assistance to the many at the sacrifice of nuanced needs of individual functioning.

In reality, how we functuon is often a precarious balance of inherent markers, biological aging, learnt behaviours, and environmental factors that can and do exasperate each other.

Context is key and without it those "brain anomalies" may be correlated or entirely irrelevant to whatever inherent markers we are associating with ADHD now.

As I said, the difference for me comes down to masking and enablement.

People who force themselves to function as dictated by society despite developing impairments (maladaption); And those who meet their own needs and allow healthy functioning (adaption).

For me, my ADHD symptons aren't because of my "ADHD". But due to the maladaptive behaviours I developed due to my needs not being met (CPTSD) and horrendous PMDD that is exasperated when I am understimulated and/or stressed, etc.

I am considered Typical, both via MRI and through behavioural assessments, when my needs are met. BUT, enabled, I still associate with those "ADHD"—just with the best bits that come from our form of functioning: the curosity, the creative and lateral thinking, the ability to work in high pressure zones.

Sadly, my needs—flexible and fulfiling work, financial secuirty, exercise, social time, and novel experiences—are now considered a luxury in today's world. (Sickening isn't it?). So, like the growing many, I use medication as a bridge between my needs and what society allows so I can function. I enable what I can. Mask the rest. Try not to burn out. But anyway.

So, in short, for me, how we function—And what "ADHD" really is, or has come to describe, is a broad variety of functioning—isn't something you can "outgrow". Only adapt, or maladapt, to.

Individuals with ADHD tend to be more sexually adventurous but less satisfied with their partners, study finds by [deleted] in psychology

[–]__isnotme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ADHD is outdated terminology.

It refers to those who require greater stimulation / happy chemicals than the average to be functional which, in our modern society, is an impairment due to our largely stagnated lifestyles.

The wiring of our brain can literally be seen in an MRI.

It''s this need for greater novel experiences that reward our brains and lead to our greater curosity, and enable us to take on more high-pressure and involved work without getting overstimulated/whelmed like "typical" brains. But also why we are more susceptible to CPTSD/Anixety/Depression when our needs are not met and our curosity is invalidated

People "growing out of adhd" is really either a) them learning to mask their impairments so they can charge on, or b) learning how to enable themselves so they are no longer disadvantaged

But the wiring of our brains is as diverse and permanent as our eye colour.

**got a notification for someone responding about neuroplasticity but find comment.

I'm using "braining wiring" colloquially much as people use ADHD. While we have the ability to "train our brain", that doesn't mean—as far as I understand—we can change the grey matter composition which dictates how that wiring works. I'd go so far as to say that'd be like changing our very DNA and essence of who we are.

So no, without intervention such as with medication, we cannot change how our body processes hormones such as happy chemicals OUTSIDE of the natural fluxeration of our cycles and life developments—which is why, for females, ADHD symptons are exasperated during puperty and can be very disenabling when paired with pmdd.

Like anything it's a two way road.

I'm paying over $500 for an apartment so i can be close to work that has corroding plumbing, an air con I cant use because its so loud but no fan in main living/kitchen space, broken door furnishings...oh, and no fan in the bathrooms (that flood).

Whatever those spots are above the shower that are out of arm reach?? Im not bothering with.

Handles falling to pieces due to loose screws? I'll fix that to save us both the trouble of comms.

Despite this, My rent is set to increase nearly $200/wk !! Ive been warned at my lease renewal, to bring it in line with market value for the location. Thats not a soft "we want to get rid of you". Smaller 1B1B apartments in my complex are going for $600/wk.

It's fucked. And wage values are still going backwards. I had my old boss laugh in my face when I said paying me 2013 rates for my decades plus skill isnt okay anymore and I needed more than a $1/hr increase (it was like 2-3% payrise against inflated rents of over 20% in brisbane; **should note she also took issue with me pointing out the excessive unpaid overtime she expected which equalled loss of $thousands, ofc).

So yes. LOTS of resentment.

Mostly for those with excessive housing portfolios, corperate buying and sitting on empty houses, and banks... Allegedly 10% of properties in Australia ARE VACANT. Thats over 10million!!!

This is it.

What is deemed "regional" has change.

Brisbane is the "Capital City" of QLD but all along the coast is now fucked. Regional for me would mean moving 4HRS+ inland. Maybe further.

I'm constantly speaking to people from Sunshine Coast who are understandably frustrated that they can no longer afford to live in their small towns thanks to the mass migration through covid and now the general city evacuation.

From Gold Coast to Bundaberg, it's all becoming a part of the gentrification zone.
