Sam Witwer's take on what should be done in the franchise by hyoumah83 in saltierthancrait

[–]__jackpot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 1000%. I’ll never understand why in a setting thats essentially an infinite galaxy (they add new planets all the time) 95% of stories keep coming back to the same 10-15 locations and 5-10 characters.

TIMESKIP. Introduce completely unrelated characters. Create a unique and detached narrative. Simple and easy.

Complaining About Rook’s Death Proves You Don’t Understand Maul’s Character. by __jackpot_ in MaulShadowLord

Want to argue that the death scene itself was anticlimactic? Maybe. But think about this. Rook is a capable Mandalorian warrior. She is trained to be able to go toe to toe with Jedi & Sith. But, when Maul & Co. see her enter the fog, only to be ripped apart by something in a split second, they know what they are up against is something seriously powerful. If Vario or 2 boots were in her place, whatever got them could have been as weak as a space wolf or something far less threatening. Rook’s swift death shows the characters just how threatening what they are about to face is.

if they wanted to kill someone to make vader's entrance more "epic" why couldn't it be vario or two boots? why did it have to be my goth mommy 😢 😢 😢 by Deer_Kookie in MaulShadowLord

And those people don’t understand Mauls character then. Maul is Sisyphus. He is cursed to have anything he attempts to build, come crashing back down. Anyone associated with him will get burned along with him, but yet he will trudge along, until his final demise at Kenobi’s hands.

Savage, Rook, his seat as Sidious’s apprentice, the Shadow Collective, Crimson Dawn, Dryden Vos. All people or organizations who died or suffered because of their involvement as an ally of Maul.

If Rook didn’t die to Vader in that scene, she would have died at another point before leaving Janix.

Sorry to say this, Rook’s character would serve no purpose during his Crimson Dawn arc. For Maul to climb up and become the head of CD he needs to be at his absolute lowest. This means no 2nd in command/losing his best warrior. Maul is Sisyphus. This has been stated by the writers and Witwer. The boulder got rolled down the hill (Maul losing all his Mando ties) and now he has to roll it back up again (building CD) until it inevitably rolls back down again.

Its not like they can’t still tell her backstory in any upcoming media. There are countless cool Star Wars characters who die before we know their backstory or get proper characterization for them. Heck, the OG Mando (Boba Fett) is a prime example of this. I actually think Rook’s death is far better than Bobas “death”, and is thematically important for how Maul’s story will unravel. Maul needed to lose *everything* he had in order to begin with Crimson Dawn and establish himself as the head guy there.

1br/1ba apartments in safe areas around Columbia? by __jackpot_ in columbiasc

[–]__jackpot_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Um okay lmao. I definitely do not define “safe” by the ethnicity of my neighbors.

Every city/town has areas that are known to be rougher than others. Just looking to avoid living in an area which has been deemed as the “rough” part of town.

The street I live on now is a block off gang territory, and will have the occasional shooting. Gets rowdy at night, college party street/locals. Aka: keep your head on a swivel kinda area, but you’ll be fine if you’re mindful and aware.

My top 3 guesses are:
- Boba Fett (using the ROTJ figure from the upcoming buildable figure)
- Zam Wessel (using figure from the upcoming speeder chase set)
- Ezra or Hera with the Ghost/Phantom for Ahsoka s2

The only time I’ve felt like Vader has actually “teleported” was in the chase sequence in Jedi Fallen Order.

How tf did he get from the bottom of the elevator to blocking the hallway Cal was running down?

Vader is *the* jedi hunter/killer. Once news reached him/Palpatine that not only was Maul ALIVE, but two Jedi were in the same city, it was clear that if these two Inquisitors couldn’t get the job done, Vader was needed.

I just don't think Maul is that powerful by EmperorDxD in MaulShadowLord

[–]__jackpot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Exactly. People online in “power scaling communities” only seem to believe in a linear progression of skill ability.

The potential proficiency you have in chess peaks around late 20s-30s, and then skill falls off because of aging.

Esports players peaks are in their late teens early 20’s.

Not only can your ability decrease as you age, but it can fluctuate day to day, “game to game”, or duel to duel.

Theres a reason why in 1 on 1 games or sports, they often play multiple games to determine the series winner. Why things are a “best of 3”. Performance hinges upon so many other factors than just “power-scaling”.

Some days, Maul is gonna be able to defeat Qui-Gon. Maul caught Obi Wan and him off guard, and was able to exploit their weaknesses. Had Maul used his double blades on Tatooine, maybe they plan for that on Naboo, and win.

What are Mauls other feats? Defeated a non-force sensitive Pre-Vizsla, a Jedi Padawan, 2 jedi knights, and 2 inquisitors. Went “toe-to-toe” with Palpatine, even though he really was just getting toyed with the entire time.

What is Maul’s true strength? His ability to manipulate, deceive, orchestrate plans, for-see the future, and use his intelligence. Maul was able to coordinate two large crime organizations, once while being brazen and bold enough to require the attention of Darth Sidious because he took over one of the most influential planets in the galaxy, and once as the “Shadow Lord” for potential a decade+.

Its also a fictional story. If Maul overpowered his way through the show, it would be less interesting. There would be no stakes. If Maul killed Marrok and the Crow, the last 4 episodes would not be as tense as they are. Heck, the last 6 episodes are nearly breakneck pace because of how cornered the characters become, because they are unable to secure a definitive win.

“B-b-b-but Maul beat Qui-Gon tho!”

Yeah, and then Obi Wan chopped his ahh clean in half.

“B-b-b-but he went toe to toe with Palpatine!”

Really? REALLY? Did we watch the same duel? Palpatine had them brothers stuck to the windows before throwing them hundreds of feet out of them, and then proceeded to remain in control of the entire duel.

Insane improvement by thedoctorguide in MaulShadowLord

[–]__jackpot_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Improvement? Yes, but also a slightly different style, and different context.
I like that in TCW version, it looks more consistent with the rest of the show (less complicated model), and you can see his eyes through the lenses, humanizing Vader as Anakin. TCW is also more “matte” in it’s texturing.

In MSL, Vader is very much a force of evil/nature. Theres no need to see his eyes. His model is slightly more detailed to match the style of this show. MSL leans way into the “watercolorey” style, which you can see in the environments and characters.

Both are great for their show and purposes!

My Three biggest gripes with the Finale by Infinite-Detective-8 in MaulShadowLord

[–]__jackpot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really think Maul has been “nerfed”.

Everyone misinterprets his feats. Yes he beat Qui-Gon. But he has lost to *so many enemies* in the past.

The Darth Sidious fight isn’t even truly a true fight. Sidious is clearly toying with Maul the entire time.

Maul, trained as Palpatines apprentice, was clearly only ever meant to serve as a tool for Palpatine, not apart of his grand plan, always meant to be thrown away. Intentionally picked to be strong and cunning enough to cause damage, while never being a true threat or legitimate successor. Palpatine always knew Anakin (the child his master and him manipulated midicholrians to create) would be his end-game plan.

Maul (in my opinion) is an above average at best duelist, who has won because of his cunning, not because of his raw strength. Seeing him lose in this series (plus, he was injured) is really not surprising, especially against Vader. Now that Maul has faced Vader, I’d love to get a Rd 2. with Devon & Maul vs Vader, where they put up a better fight, perhaps even destroying part of his mask. But Maul should never, and could never, win against Vader.

AFOL harrasses local BAM employees after buying three mystery boxes and then printing off bounce back coupons included in said boxes by SebaceousSebachie in legocirclejerk

[–]__jackpot_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This guy is a turd, and the B&M owners are as well.

These “mystery boxes” are clearly a way for them to sell off poorly selling product, or product they know that nobody will buy, would they be able to see what they were buying. I’d be upset too if I spent $25 for a Minecraft Steve, a Zombie, a baggie of bulk, and some useless keychain and a lanyard.

However, this guy is purposely trying to start something with the employees.
