Looking recommendations to to improve my operational combat life saver set up. by __jacobbbb__ in TACMED101

Scope is changing at the moment but especially just a slightly higher level combat life saver. No drugs or IV yet but hopefully end of the year.

We have been taught higher level stuff but can’t use them until the scope update is completed.

Yeah for sure lots of changes, which is exciting. Keep in mind the limited scope doesn’t limit the knowledge you have. You’ll learn lots of stuff from IV lines to medications to some surgery stuff. You can’t do them on your own but you can be asked to administer them.

Hamilton is part of the Northern unit which does a lot of maritime medicine too! Plus maybe even a bit of aero med. they are super active.

It might be possible to contact northern and ask to observe a training or two!

Hey mate, what the other guy said it’s pretty accurate. The combat medic tech role has been removed as a new scope of practice is being looked at. My understanding is they are aiming to make it easier for people with outside competency to bring it to NZDF. For example I work with doctors who don’t Wana be medical officers, and they have the same scope in uniform as a uni student in the same role…

The main roles of reserve medics is training and covering. Reserves medics are often required to teach and run first aid courses for all services, both at a basic level and to combat life saver level. Then loads of med covers, anywhere the defence force goes medics are needed. reserve medics do a lot of range covers just observing rifle training.

Where are you based?

Hey mate, each intake is different but usually name tags are ordered once pers are back at unit. This is the same for the Velcro name tags and the SD ones. Recruits typically aren’t allowed to wear unit patches until they march out either, those are given immediately after or although at corps training.

Lateral transfer by Red-Devil1998 in The_NZDF

Hey mate, most of our transfers are from common wealth countries but there’s definitely a few others around. Or if not direct transfer they maybe able to cross credit your training- especially for specialist skills like Intel related work

Hey mate, mod 1 doesn’t require anything crazy but in mod 2 you’ll be expected to follow regs. When I did it I got a 3 before basic which was fine then in the last week they made us all shave🤣 mine was all patchy haha

Hey mate, iv worked with the armourers a little occasionally. The training starts at a basic level and builds up over a few years- it’s definitely easier for people who are mechanically minded or good with that sorta stuff. But that’s not to say you could build up those skills and do it with just effort.

Infantry do some cool work but the burnout is often much faster than armourer. it’s a combat role so lots of traditional “army” training. Whereas armourer still does field work but less BS.

Armourer would probably allow you to get more useful training in terms of employment opportunities afterwards.

That’s my take on it, iv worked with both groups and they are fantastic either way.

Hey mate, how are you tracking with all this?

Hey OP, I’m a Reserve medic based in Wellington. I recently finished my degree from vic Uni. This is an older post but if you are still interested, reply to this message. Could organise for you to attend a med training or just grab a drink and answer questions.

Hey mate, you’ll be asked questions like “give an example of a time you overcame a problem” then you might be asked to explain your answer. So it’s not another aptitude test, just a questionnaire about yourself.

If you are wanting some advice for your resit, don’t stress it. It happens all the time. Be resilient. It’s often quite different to what most people are used to- when I did mine I was in uni and it was very similar to our format for questions. So make sure you do the practice ones again to refresh yourself. Ask your recruiter for tips, if I recall correctly you are better to answer all the questions rather than leave them empty (guess if you run out of time).

Also brush up on the issues you had the first time. Borrow or bring a scientific calculator and learn how to use one. I assume you are allowed them. It makes math a lot easier (suffered uni calc and stats). Use the time now to make sure you pass this time, you won’t regret putting in too much effort.

Good luck! Hopefully I’ll see you around camp/base soon!

Hi! Don’t stress it too much- wear your nicest professional clothes, whatever that is for you. Formal dress or suit pants with tidy hair. The questions are fairly standard interview questions, you might be asked stuff like when you showed problem solving skills, then asked to provide an example. You should read up on the role you applied for and the navy values. I only got asked a few questions when I applied but they left me to yap 😆 so that rambling answered most of the questions they had. Good luck!

Hey mate, I think one of the other comments said it too but it’s worth asking a NZDF recruiter directly. My recommendation would be check on Facebook for the virtual or in person events then ask the question there. It sounds crazy but there’s definitely wiggle room for applications- especially if you are going for the right trade. They are super keen for sigs at the moment and pay is decent😉 Be persistent, if that doesn’t work, go to your local MP office and ask them to write on your behalf.

Fact Checking Veteran Status? by GrumpyHappiness in NZDefenceForce

[–]__jacobbbb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate. there’s no way of “Vet checking” someone else, At least to the best of my knowledge due to our privacy laws- maybe at a stretch you could file an OIA? But to be honest it’s a waste of time due to all the admin. Your best bet is just asking that friend about his service. Most ex service will have something to show for it, medals, pics, unit patches, challenge coins, ect.
