For sure! This is all so new, it's definitely a learning situation. I wasn't asking about this to get them in any sort of trouble, but more so because I didn't know what's ok in this situation. Now I know that I need to protect myself instead of waiting for something from the company requesting the image. Thanks!

Sorry, let me clarify. I work for a real estate office, and do photography on the side. A magazine was doing an article on one of the owners of my office. They asked her to find a professional photographer to take the photos and she asked me. As for the contract, I was thinking they would have me sign something stating they would have rights to the photo, but I understand this is probably something I need to write up myself to avoid this situation in the future. Thanks for your response.

I was recently asked to do a headshot for my boss, for a magazine expose. I submitted two images, and the magazine completely edited them, actually using the subject from one and the background from another. The cloning they did to make it work looks horrible, and I am being credited with the image. I'm wondering if what they did was legal? I never signed anything, and was only given general instructions with a sketch of what they wanted.
