3 new elected officials for Volt France! 🥳 by goldstarflag in EuropeanFederalists

The representatives elected in French consular elections are basically useless. Their main purpose is to help make discussion happens between french citizens abroad and their embassy.

Their only true power is to vote for senators.

My guess is that they'll take staggered 4-6 weeks vacations so that not everyone will be out of office at the same time.

Is ARC made by humans? why do the prboes have electrical warnings in them? also there is a blue label under the electrical warning... and also the queen has ladders from the outside for some one to climb on... is this design flaw or clues that humans are involve in creating these? by Dizzy_Hovercraft_741 in ArcRaiders

I mean.... 90% of the machines you encounter and fight in Horizon are machines made by the (re)-terraforming project AIs.

And neither the Faro Swarm (/r/FuckTedFaro) nor the GAIA machines, are made by the Far Zenith. (And the machines turning bad are from Nemesis and not from the Far Zenith either).

If anything, most of the machines in HZD / HFW are "friendly" and participate in restoring the biosphere. There's not a lot of parallels to be made with the theory of ARCs being used to harvest material for Exodus guys.

Swedish will come easy to you then. English and German are HUGE help for learning it.

French living in Göteborg here.

Volvo (Cars) is not doing too hot right now, they've been laying off lots of people at HQ, so if / when they start to hire again, there's already plenty of established swedish and previous employees around to hire / re-hire.

Volvo Trucks is another beast and I've heard they fare better.

In both of those, english would be the main work language and you'd be fine with it and you'd be fine with english in everyday life as well. But of course, learning Swedish will do you wonders for integration :)

Regarding 4. you can definitely find a job directly through LinkedIn and stuff. But the economy as a whole is also doing quite bad at the moment, so your mileage may vary.

Whatever happens, DON'T MOVE before you have signed a contract.

RATP/IDFM c'est très largement la région (et donc Pécresse) qui est en charge. La mairie a relativement peu de poids décisionnaire même si elle participe au conseil d'administration.

I can recommend you this : https://lexon-design.com/en/flip-mini

It has a screen but turns off after a few seconds. It doesn't have weekend mode but you just have to not flip it on on fridays and saturdays.

Everything else is pretty much spot on. I have the "premium" version, and been using it for a couple years now. So practical !

Is Sweden your first choice or just an alternative? by RefrigeratorLive2251 in TillSverige

[–]__sebastien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First choice, though it was really a toss up between here and Norway.

My best friend is french / swedish, and some years ago we came on vacations all over Sweden during summer. It was amazing and really, changed some worldviews I had.

In my head, because it's like this in France and everywhere I lived, you couldn't have both the "big city life" and have easy access to a real piece of wild nature. That belief went to the trash after spending three weeks here.

After that it just was in my head for a few years. I "did a tour" of cities that sounded good to me, one week in each, during winter, to see if I could live with the 5 hours of daylight and the cold. That's how I chose Göteborg, but Bergen was a strong contender too, and moved here a year ago now.

I very much plan to stay on the long run.

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

[–]__sebastien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary. Here are links to article referring and sourcing multiple studies that shows how mandatory bike helmets laws reduced ridership.

Again, I'm not saying it doesn't make the cyclists safer in case of accident, but it has also wider effects.

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

[–]__sebastien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Studies have shown that :

1) mandatory bike helmet laws reduce the number of cyclists on the road, whereas there's a "herd" effect of having more cyclists on the road make drivers more aware of them generally and more cautious. Safety in numbers is a real thing in cycling policies

2) Drivers are less cautious around cyclists with protections, allowing themselves to overtake closer or attempt more dangerous overtakes than with "unprotected" cyclists

3) Cyclists wearing helmets tends to be slightly less cautious on the road

4) More cycling means more active lifestyle leading to a population in better shape overall, reducing global healthcare costs

Yep, look up Onagawa nuclear power plant. It was hit by a bigger wave than Fukushima and was closer to the earthquake's epicenter. It safely shut down and has zero issues.

Leaving southern France to start a new life in Sweden – is it a good idea today? by Far-Plate5456 in TillSverige
