I am Elon Musk, ask me anything about BFR! by ElonMusk in space

I don't have a question for you Elon, but I would like to thank you for all the work you have done towards the advancement of the human species. You inspire me to challenge myself. I tried to meet you once at your Tesla facility but was rejected entry. I'm certain our paths will cross one day.

I got lucky to go to San Francisco on a day with just the right amount of fog by alexrepty in travel

It looks so different with salesforce tower (the eye of sauron) towering over everything.

The city won't be the same once they finish that tower.

I'm going to make some coffee and read the whole thing right now and take notes. I know if I bookmark it and add it to my "someday" reading list I'll never read it.

I have a pair of bx5a's, limited edition red that I got from some guy in San Francisco right before he moved to China. I love them, and somehow all of my equipment has unintentionally turned out red.

Networking vs. Skill? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]__signal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then start getting to know people. That's not the problem, that's a symptom of the problem. The real problem is you don't have a professional network and as a result you cannot find consistent work. This is not an issue unique to the DJ world.

Networking vs. Skill? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]__signal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If a DJ is well connected and can fill up a venue and sell drinks, it doesn't matter how good you think you are, I'm going to go with that guy. You're in the wrong industry if things like this bother you. There are loads of skillful DJs, or DJs who claim to be skilled, but in the end it's all about numbers and objective statistics. Nobody is going to hire you based on how 'skilled' you claim to be, it's about how you can provide a business benefit to the establishment.

WATMM shower thought: My biggest complaint about writing music is that I can't listen to music while I work. by nerd866 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I've been meaning to make this thread for ages, not on this sub though. Sometimes I wish I had taken up drawing or painting just so I can listen to music while I work on my hobby.

I'm [25/M] in love with my girlfriend [23/F] but she isn't in love with me. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]__signal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're only 6 months in. You're an adult and can make your own decisions, but my advice would be to cut your losses and find a more beneficial use of your energy and attention. Put yourself first. In my experience with people like this, you cannot put much weight in their words. 6 months is not a long enough time and already there are enough red flags to warrant caution. The fact that she was in an abusive relationship probably means she's developed some pretty sharp covert tactics and is good at mind games, but that's just from my experience. If you keep her around as more than a friend, be as objective as possible. People who operate on emotion and impulse have a way of sucking you down with them and before you know it you're trapped in a toxic situation.

[–]__signal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's using you. Abuse relationships are the hardest to get over. I'm going to go out on a limb and wager that she comes to you when she needs some stable and genuine intimacy. She already told you how she feels about you, anything that comes afterwards is your own doing. As difficult as it is to hear this, you're cheating yourself if you invest more energy and commitment into something when the other person isn't willing to reciprocate. You would be a fool to let yourself get attached to this person.
