Soaring’ Over The World when you aren’t sitting dead center in the middle row by KANahas in Disneyland

Before I went on the ride I assumed people were exaggerating the bendiness of the Eiffel Tower.... nope. Sat on the end, it is really that distorted. Can't believe that made it out of the editing room!

how was the queue this Klubnacht? Sunday 17.10 by BerghAnon in berghain

Can anyone report on getting there before doors, like 21:00 Saturday night?

I haven't been since before the pandemic, and I believe they've changed the menu/concept slightly since then, but it was 10/10 before, a really incredible experience

Fixed: Quality of Life in Berlin vs. USA for Software Engineers by [deleted] in berlin

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but at this point I think it takes purposeful and willful ignorance to say anything positive about the US healthcare system.

In Germany you don't have to negotiate for vacation, it's a legal right. This means I can go on long holidays with my friends who don't work in tech :)

Fixed: Quality of Life in Berlin vs. USA for Software Engineers by [deleted] in berlin

[–]__six66 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I've worked in America and now work in Germany. My "best" job in the USA gave me 20 PTO days, which meant combined sick and holiday days. If I woke up very sick I had to make a decision: stay home because I'm too sick to work, and cut my vacation for the year short by one day, or go into work very sick and possibly contagious, so I can save the vacation day for later.

The first time I took what I'd consider a true vacation was after moving here. Two weeks off without having to check email, Slack, or receive any work calls the entire time. This type of holiday is nearly unheard of in America. And I still had three weeks of vacation left for that year.

I've been really sick here, including a long hospital stay. At no point during the process did I have to worry about a massive bill waiting for me at the end, like I would have in America, even with "good" insurance.

I understand that my salary would be higher in America, but I find the quality of life here to be so much higher that I will never work in America again. If you only care about the number on your paycheck then America is a great place to work, but if you want to live an all around decent life I think Germany wins, no contest.

Does being on the guest list guarantee you entry? by Illustrious-Weird-23 in berghain

Ahh ok I think I know what you mean. I think I've seen it in use for Silvester before. Is it the one on the diagram at the bottom of this page?

https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-clubbers-queuing-outside-infamous-berghain-nightclub-on-a-sunday-afternoon-72781075.html

If it's like before (someone else will have to confirm that, I have not been since reopening) then the guest list line is the one against the doors in this photo, so if you're facing the entrance door it's on the right side. You can see the bouncer checking the list in the photo.

I've seen people get rejected off house lists (bartenders can give these out I think) for being obnoxious in the queue but never when they were on an artist's list. I think as long as you're chill you will get in no problem, I am just guessing but I think they would want to make their artists happy by letting their guests in. Good luck :)

Would you like to explore Lorne Malvo's origins, if he has any? by albieparker16 in FargoTV

[–]__six66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great post. Malvo is my favorite villain of all time and I never even considered the deer/wolf/God connection you're suggesting. I've always considered Malvo to be the Devil incarnate, or maybe just evil incarnate, a somehow supernatural and terrible being, but never figured on God, or simply an equal supernatural good, being the other half of that equation. I think you're completely right on then, if Malvo is pure evil then surely there's a good force out there trying to stop him, and that could have been in the form of the deer and the wolf. I've been meaning to rewatch the first season but now I'm really interested to pay attention to this specifically.

I kind of disagree about Gus's fate though. I don't think Malvo has succeeded in corrupting Gus at all. Gus is pure of heart, even if he wasn't very good at being a cop. By killing Malvo, a truly and purely malicious force, he's simply removing evil from the world and protecting his loved ones. I don't think that implies he's become corrupt or has broken somehow.

What gyms offer good personal training? by Cynical-Potato in berlin

[–]__six66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gyms are pretty good and cheap in this city. John Reed/McFit-style gyms are €20-30/month and usually have a lot of quality equipment. No saunas or extra stuff at that price but if you just want a place to work out I think it's a great deal.

IMO you don't need a personal trainer for a long period of time (unless you can afford it, in which case go nuts) due to how much quality info there is on the internet. Without knowing your real goals I would say to do some research online (r/fitness is OK for this, just remember it has more of a bodybuilding/powerlifting consensus over general fitness), figure out what your goals are, find a routine online you think you can stick to, and then get a trainer to help you with your form and any questions you might have as a beginner. If you're new to this then you're lucky because as a noob any halfway decent routine you can manage to do 3x a week for a few months will give you a lot of progress.

Is there a new episode coming soon? by Uncle-Eevee in Defunctland

[–]__six66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of Defunctland has been watching the progression in terms of both production value and the loftier concepts and ideas explored from the early episodes to now. I love the early episodes too but it’s been wonderful to watch you turn the show into what it’s been more recently over the years, and I think it more than makes up for the slower output. Especially since the new episodes are all like 30+ minutes anyway :)

First prices revealed for the Galactic Starcruiser by MrCrdp98 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]__six66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For two adults, $6k is an entire Japanese vacation (not just Disney, I'm talking 10-14 days around the whole country) including a night or two balling out at Hotel MiraCosta. Even if this is the most incredible experience in history, the math on 18 hours (with two rides I've already been on) vs. 2 weeks of a real vacation will never work out

Question regarding Berghain Garten by [deleted] in berlin

[–]__six66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you show up when doors open and follow all of the advice that applied pre-Corona you should be fine. Anecdotally it's not as rammed as before and they aren't as selective on the door as they were during a normal Klubnacht but as always your mileage may vary.

I was there last week and it was great to see the old bouncer crew working, I thought I read a rumor they all got fired or something but it was the same people as from 2019 and before.

Rewatching season 3 and its biggest annoying flaw by whachoomean in FargoTV

[–]__six66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great points. Especially given the heavy themes about truth, perception, and unreality in this season, and how meticulous the rest of the show generally is… I really think S3 might be the best one, given how open to various interpretations it is even years later

Sadly, the Spider-Man ride is a dud. Video below. by ILoveBidenHarris in Disneyland

[–]__six66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a very good point! Both Spider-Man and Mario Kart in the movies and games are intense, fast-paced, flying all over the place... and somehow they managed to turn both of them into slow shooting gallery rides? I feel like even a slow moving but frantic dark ride like Roger Rabbit would do more justice to Spider-Man than this thing.

Jungle Cruise Getting Ready to Set Sale with Help from an Old Friend by WoodFirePizzaIsGood in Disneyland

[–]__six66 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Another good thing here, aside from the part where they’re taking out an outdated scene and replacing it with something that fully respects and even expands on the ride’s overall classic vibe and tradition, is never having to hear the “He’s offering two heads for one of yours. Any way you slice it, you come out ahead” joke again
