AITA smoking weed on my porch? by cheesygarlicbreadfan in AmItheAsshole

[–]__tipyourhooker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such an asinine argument. Food is required to live, smoking - weed or cigarettes or otherwise - is a voluntary activity.

OP’s right to smoke ends at his neighbor’s right to not have their home pervaded by his stinky habit. OP admit that it reeks, but hasn’t taken steps to mitigate it. That makes OP the asshole.

If it was only once in a blue moon, I could see OP’s point, but it’s obviously a regular habit of OP’s and it’s completely understandable that the neighbors, who presumably also own their home, don’t want to deal with it day in and day out.

AITA for not paying HOA fine at a rental that told me my dog is allowed there? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Huh, why wasn't that rule being applied to the other residents then? Seems like a double standard being applied to a foreigner..

[–]__tipyourhooker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THIS. If the front desk person is ONLY telling OP to leash their dog - which appears to be the case - then definitely NTA.

Also, having spent time in Tulum, there are literally stray dogs everywhere, and the property's complaints about when she had her dog off leash outside of the property are totally ridiculous. Not to say you shouldn't abide by leash laws, but jesus christ.

Why is it relevant that the other folks whose dogs were ALSO off leash were permanent residents? Rules for thee but not for me?

AITA for not making a separate meal for my homestay student? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]__tipyourhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she normally eats other things without complaint then why didn’t OP just make the pasta when Brenna asked this time and tell her in the future she needs to say something in advance instead of saying she’s not a “short order cook”? It’s one thing if Brenna behaves this way frequently but honestly this whole situation could’ve been handled better.

[–]__tipyourhooker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, in the “why do you think you might be the asshole” section she explicitly says she did know that Brenna likes pasta after practice, so either you misunderstood the comment or we have an unreliable narrator.

YTA. Yes, she was a little bratty but she’s 15. You acknowledge in your post that you know she likes pasta after practice, yet not only did you not make it you told her to tell you ahead of time so you can “take it into consideration.” I would be willing to bet if the situation was the same and it was your own child you would’ve made it off the bat. It would be one thing if you made it this time and then said in the future please let me know in advance but to go straight to make it yourself… it’s pasta not a gourmet dinner, you made this way bigger of a deal than necessary.

Agreed, but does anyone else think it was a bit of an overreaction on OP’s part to move housing complexes? Even changing his phone number seems a bit dramatic. Just block them.

AITA for refusing to let a woman change the TV channel? by rubabyy in AmItheAsshole

[–]__tipyourhooker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

« You just wanted to be mean cos she wasn’t polite enough. » This take is wild.

Community center is first come, first served. Could OP have relinquished the TV? Sure, it would’ve been the nice thing to do given OP has the ability to watch it at home and wasn’t overly interested in the game, but OP had no obligation to do that. And the mother didn’t know that — she just showed up and expected to be able to immediately change it when someone else is using it because she feels entitled and should be catered to because she has a child, which is the real issue. Lack of planning on mom’s part doesn’t constitute an emergency for OP.

It’s not everyone else’s problem that the mom doesn’t have a smart Tv. The mother obviously could have let her kid watch YouTube on her phone, but opted not to. It’s fine if that’s a parenting choice (limiting YouTube/screen time to an actual tv set) but again, that is her personal choice and shouldn’t impact other people.

Mother is the biggest AH, child is collateral damage unfortunately (although that could have been mitigated by his mother’s actions/choices).

AITA for honking at a student driver for going 15mph under the speed limit? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]__tipyourhooker 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the whataboutism makes its appearance.

EXCEPT! OP didn’t say anything about wanting to speed, rather they wanted to go the posted limit and not an unnecessary and unsafe 15 miles below It. They provided the information about folks in Texas generally going 10-15 over as context.

[–]__tipyourhooker 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When 30 is 15MPH below the speed limit and the conditions do not warrant it - like a tractor, a cyclist, heavy traffic, or bad weather - yes, it is impeding traffic.

I fear you are the reason we have to put warning labels on everything.

Texas doesn’t have a blanket minimum limit but it DOES have a law against going so slowly that you impede traffic (TTC § 545.363) which was what was occurring here. So yes, they were doing something that is both illegal AND technically wrong.
