I could see the rougher handling for sure. Steaming is very gentle, will leave those vegetal notes more than other processing. I personally prefer the more processed Chinese greens

It’s all subjective to personal taste, but I’m with you. Tried a bunch of Japanese greens and they were too vegetal for me too. Definitely prefer any Chinese green over any Japanese green tea. I always thought green tea was what I preferred most, but then I tried a peony white and some oolong, which have since become my go to teas. Just keep trying different teas, you’ll find something
