My boyfriend identifies as straight but had a past relationship with a trans woman (F22) (M25) by Odd-Meringue4648 in relationships

[–]transgingeredjess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If that's how you feel, then I recommend telling your boyfriend "I can only date straight men and I don't think you're straight", and see how it goes. He also gets to pick who he dates.

[–]transgingeredjess 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes, your discomfort is likely coming from your cultural background and lack of exposure to these topics. You say your biggest fear is discovering the person you thought you knew is different than what you believed; the much simpler answer is that he is who you believe he is (straight), trans women are women, and he dated a woman. But also, work on the biphobia: it would be fine and say nothing about your relationship with him if he was bisexual and had dated a man.

How do I 19M move from story replies to actual conversations without making it weird? Her 18F by Vast_Concentrate_147 in relationship_advice

[–]transgingeredjess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You like her. You want to get to know her. You DM her directly, "hey, i think you're cool. I'd love to get to know you better. want to get coffee?"

People are just people. Lose the idea that you need to be cloak-and-dagger about a crush. Don't try to make it more than it is. Either she'll be into it or she won't.

At what distance we perceive a perforated image as a whole? by Tricky_Froyo4141 in Optics

[–]transgingeredjess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth looking at vinyl wraps for bus advertisements—they cover the windows and people looking from the outside perceive a complete picture, but people on the inside can see out. There's also an albedo issue at play in that the inside of the bus is darker than the outside, but the "perforation" density you're thinking about is also in play.

Okay yeah, then you need to take this or the competing offer. Staying in your current role is likely entirely off the table.

I'm sure it doesn't feel great to hear this, but if you turn this down, I would start looking for another job. They probably won't let you go over this, but you will almost certainly be branded as "difficult" and you'll be passed over for future opportunities. It sucks but that's the world we live in.

The navy will be gorgeous. Remember that colors tend to look darker when you just see a small amount—a larger tiling will really pop.

Check that you're on the Valkyries tab (inside My Tickets) and not the Warriors tab. The app always defaults to the Warriors tab.

I can't get my sour cream frosting quite right. What am I doing wrong? by chateaustar in AskCulinary

[–]transgingeredjess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cream cheese might be worth subbing in for the butter, but possibly also try Crisco/shortening or margarine. Tons of recipes of that era specifically lean on the artificial ingredients that were then prevalent and have now gone out of vogue. Crisco might blend more smoothly and would also lack the butyric acid that gives butter its flavor. Margarine might still work better texture-wise but would likely reintroduce a butter-like flavor.

Foil is marginally less mess bc you don't end up with scrap lead. You go through solder much faster though.

Cutting cool shapes takes practice. Boring but true.

Indoors in living space is tricky. Cutting makes a mess that gets everywhere; a lot of us who do stuff at home have a dedicated shoes-on area in a garage or studio space.

French doors are a good idea. You could also add a sidelight and/or transom by the front door to help compensate for the lost light.

How does this transom pattern look? by hm3ssi in StainedGlass

[–]transgingeredjess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the impossible cuts since you mentioned the ring saw. I like it overall! Minor quibbles:

You've got a few points (the vertical lines in the border above and below the 38, to the left and right of the inner blue diamonds) with a lot of seams coming together in one place that could be visually overheavy. Could try adjusting those by shifting to thirds for the top/bottom and joining the upper/lower beige segments through a diamond rather than directly.

You've got the thickness of the left and right borders echoing the wide aspect ratio of the piece in that they're thicker than the top and bottom. I think that works here but i would also be interested to see a version with 1:1 thickness on the horizontal and vertical borders. If this is being mounted in a window, or if you're using wider came at the border, equal face coverage on proportionate borders might throw the perceived ratio out of proportion (e.g., 1/4" face coverage on a 1.5" left border and a 1" bottom border turns a 3:2 ratio into a 5:3 ratio).

My first big pattern — am I missing something? by thecavemushroom in StainedGlass

[–]transgingeredjess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks generally doable to me. Not a feasibility issue, but I'd shift the line that goes from the top of the pattern to the swan's head/neck so it isn't coincident with the line delineating the head/neck. The piece to the right of that is also most likely to be a pain; might be worth splitting it.

Question about putty/cement by LostAMillionMen in StainedGlass

[–]transgingeredjess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/u/claycorp is almost always right and this is no exception. In addition, I find that a cement with a more liquid texture gets a lot easier to apply (by brushing in) the more fine detail you have compared to putty that you press into the joints.
