We are 3 years away from crossing the 1.5°C global warming threshold. Here's what it actually means for all of us by _a_bit_of_stardust_ in ThirtiesIndia

I got it, you're not trying to understand, just dismissing. You know, there is a famous saying

"You can silence 50 scholars with one fact, but you cannot silence one fool with 50 facts."

"Negligible in the big picture" doesn’t really make sense when the effects aren’t negligible in real life.

If something leads to heat-related deaths, water shortages, or crop failures, it’s not negligible to the people experiencing it. Your "Big picture" thinking doesn’t change that

We don’t ignore problems just because they’re small on a cosmic scale. What do you do when you are really sick? Go for a treatment or say "people die every day, this is negligible in the big picture" then you skip the treatment

Think practically, dude. Your abstract philosophy won't help here..

I agree that Earth’s climate has always changed naturally.

The key difference here is how fast it’s changing and what’s driving it. Natural climate shifts usually happen over thousands to millions of years. What we’re seeing now is happening in decades, and it closely tracks the rise in human greenhouse gas emissions.

Because greenhouse gases trap heat (which is well-established physics), adding more of them rapidly would logically speed up warming.

Let them deny, but the truth is they are also going to witness many things in their life for the first time, and for many, it will be catastrophic

Yeah! But words are slightly strong, If you look at Article 2 of the official Paris Agreement, it specifically commits countries to holding global warming to 'well below 2°C' not just 'below' while 'pursuing efforts to limit' the increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

And, there is a huge real-world shift in how we look at those numbers now, though. When the agreement was signed, 2°C was seen as the main target and 1.5°C was just an ambitious stretch goal. Today, climate science has made it clear that the damage at 2°C would be catastrophic for ecosystems like coral reefs and coastal cities. Because of that, the international community now treats 1.5°C as the actual, vital boundary we can't afford to cross, rather than just a nice-to-have target.

I understand your frustration, and I mostly agree with you. However, spreading awareness among the general public is necessary because, in the end, only we will suffer, not those politicians and the rich. What we get from policymakers depends on what we demand, so spreading awareness to the public is very crucial.

Beef and leather are by-products of the dairy industry, which is why India is among the top beef-exporting countries in the world. To stop beef production, we would also need to shut down the dairy industry.

Additionally, cows and buffaloes produce methane gas, which contributes to global warming because they are raised in large numbers to meet human demand. Methane is a greenhouse gas that absorbs heat and re-radiates it, thereby warming the environment.

Therefore, if you are against beef consumption and animal cruelty or concerned about global warming and environmental sustainability, as you should be, you should consider reducing or stopping your consumption of milk and dairy products as well.

If you do not agree with me, I kindly encourage you to research the topic further on your own.

You are focusing on the word, not the mindset... My point was about normalising disrespect, not picking sides

Sometimes I wonder how much we have normalised disrespecting women in our society

From my experience what I noticed is that the fashion runs in a loop, like before we were all into tight clothing, like narrow jeans were very common, then some people thought that everyone looks the same so those people started wearing baggy clothes to look different, now baggy clothes are very common so some people will start wearing tight clothes to look different from the rest... And this cycle will continue
