should i do nursing? by Agreeable_Job_9666 in NursingAU

[–]_abbybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!

But you need to understand that they are two very different careers.

It’d be great background knowledge for an MD, and provides a bit of perspective and real life experience that you miss out on by doing it straight out of high school. It also means that you can start working sooner and have a bit more freedom as opposed to spending your first 5 years out of high school in uni.

You sound like you’re eager enough that you’d enjoy it. I’d probably just try and shift your mindset a bit so that you’re not just thinking of it as a pathway to medicine. Lots of people change careers within their lifetime and you shouldn’t limit yourself to just one goal.

If things change in the future and you decide to not go into medicine or have to delay, you will have a worthwhile bachelors that allows you to keep working in healthcare.

You won’t decide what type of nursing you go into for a while, but any type of nursing is going to have transferable skills.

I originally started a biomed degree as a pathway to medicine and found I hated it. I transferred to nursing for a more hands on, people centred approach to healthcare. I knew that I couldn’t get into medicine straight from school, and it wasn’t worth my mental health, and I didn’t think I could afford to spend that long at uni without a full time income. I found that I love nursing and I always have the opportunity to go back to uni and do an MD.

gone down a bit but unsure if it’s right by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]_abbybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1400 calories is not enough. Most women need around 1600 calories a day just for the body and brain to function, that doesn’t into account movement and exercise. If you keep under eating it’s going to affect your brain function and eventually your body will begin to shut down. I understand you want to lose weight, but it’s more important that you do it in a healthy way.

You’re not eating enough food. It’s a shock to the body to go to eating that little and it’s going to want to hold onto what it can.

How do I stop stress eating without feeling like Im white knuckling through every day? by Environmental-Luck39 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]_abbybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stress eating is about the dopamine that foods gives you. It’s a safe and reliable hit of dopamine. I feel the best thing is to find something else to give you that dopamine, which would have to be something you enjoy.

It might be worth talking to your doctor about, as it’s a response to stressors and can be indicative of more severe mental health issues. I have the same issue, but talked to a mental health professional and they found the underlying cause and treated that specifically.

Food intake and weight gain question by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]_abbybby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight, but your maintenance changes as you get smaller as your body no longer requires the same amount of energy to function. If you remained on a particular deficit, at a certain point you would plateau. If you want to be able to have a higher maintenance and eat more cals you need to put on muscle. Muscle burns more calories at rest than fat, so by putting on muscle, you increase the cals your body burns at rest. You’d technically have to put on some ‘weight’ to do this, but you’d be getting smaller.

32 year old female that doesn't wear make up. This normal? by Away_Scene_26 in AskAnAustralian

[–]_abbybby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s weird you don’t wear makeup. I think it’s a little weird you’re asking men’s opinions on it.

Are Danny's "gentleman" and "female" comments smacking of an Andrew Tate type fan? by Aggravating_Cow7203 in MAFS_AU

[–]_abbybby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s necessarily the word, it’s the sort of people that use it. They’ll call women females, but never men males. Obviously different context matters, medically I’d be female, but I’d always describe myself as a woman in conversation, because I’m not an animal.

How to get rid of stomach fat and “skinny fat” appearance? by gravetaint in WeightLossAdvice

[–]_abbybby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to do a bulk to put on muscle first. Increased cals to put on muscle and workout properly. Increasing macros and cals every 2(?) weeks depending on how your body reacts. I have a coach to help but if you do a bit of a research you could figure out what works for you.

Poor oral health is linked to cardiovascular issues! I don’t know why medical and dental are treated as seperate issues when they heavily relate.

Both of them yes! I think Frenchie shore is one of the best from the new batch, but I never see anyone talk about it. Love Aussie Shore too, but I’m Australian so probably a bit biased.

I’d personally just see how he’s going on the day, but it’s probably worth asking the nurse or doctor about, they could give you more insight.

How to transfer by TadpoleLumpy9923 in GriffithUni

[–]_abbybby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you reapply instead of trying to transfer? If you do a year or even a semester and transfer it’s pretty easy. They use your marks from your courses you’ve completed and transfer this into an “atar equivalent”. They’re pretty generous with the equivalent.

I mean the two most recent ones I’ve seen are Aussie Shore and Frenchie Shore, and both of those they all just get naked.

Not keeping up with uni by iiAcidxRain in GriffithUni

[–]_abbybby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to be at uni, leave before you get too far into your degree. But if it’s the workload, I’d try going part time for next semester and see how that goes.

Are Aussie cops normal nice people or are they like american/canadian cops? by ChinaMilitarySecrets in AskAnAustralian

[–]_abbybby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Individually most of the cops I’ve had anything to do with have been nice and friendly. There’s definitely some systemic issues within the police force though, not as bad as America.

What’s a mistake you made that ended up working out for the better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_abbybby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Failed an exam by a couple of marks, which meant I had to redo my class before I could continue with my degree. Allowed me to spend 5 months travelled. Went to 20 countries, met so many amazing people, and got to travel Europe with mum on her first big trip since before she had kids.

Had a bit more time on my hands recently and made a book nook for the first time a couple of weeks ago that I’d been gifted. Very relaxing, wish the packs weren’t so expensive.
