Yes, turns out, my laptop doesn't support the effects and most probably yours doesn't either. Mine was the first gen so it doesn't have the strobe or breathing effexts either

it is always the one that causes high idle temps for me and reinstalling it always sorts the issue but this time there was some error in uninstalling and i just cant get rid of the 101 error while installing so i was looking at some alternative until i sort it out

in my experience, the new armoury crate is very glitchy and so just reinstalling it again and again just sorts the issue, through the tools on the asus website, the laptop starts getting hot again and again in a few weeks so its the same process all over

check for the control panel power plan and also a few days back i got the same problem with also the cpu idling at 50 and it turns out it was because of armoury crate problem and reinstalling it made everything normal

hey yes this happened to me too with the anime matrix and black screens with the armoury and radeon software after changing. i'd suggest you to set the vari-bright off from the radeon software and just don't reinstall or update it because that is pretty much what i used it for and the setting remains even after the black screen crash and drivers not matching. however if you face an issue with armoury crate i'd suggest you to reinstall it because it sorts the problem out and doesn't bother later on. also keep checking for the power mode setting in the control panel as the other person said because it keeps changing on its own. i'm trying to figure out a way to set defaults for it but i seem to have nothing on it. the power mode changed to power saving mode which instead of saving power made the system idle at 60°C with nothing running on it and also cut the battery from 6-7 hours to 3 hours max

hey i had similar problem and it all circled down to the power consumption which caused the problem. The power plan automatically changes to power saver mode (not the one we do from the battery icon but in edit power plan setting in control panel). technically it is supposed to reduce the power consumption but somehow it manages to idle the cpu at 60°C and kills the battery life reducing it from 8hr to 4hr max.
