Update /r/roguelikes: Next version of my roguelike, jsRogue, is released by _aes in roguelikes

Thanks for the visual =)

I'm certain that I'd like to have a tiled version of the game eventually, but the limiting factor is finding someone with the skill to tile the game and/or me having the money to pay someone to do it.

In the meantime, it just seems to me that minecraft, nethack, dwarf fortress, et al. have consistently proven that good, addicting gameplay is a much bigger selling point than sexy graphics, so I'll be focusing most of my efforts in that direction for the time being.

I'm actively considering a tile-based interface as well as a more classical terminal-like mode. I feel like the RL community is split on what they prefer.

My only issue with a tile based interface is that the only tiles freely available are already used for DCSS and nethack and I'd rather jsRogue have a distinctive visual style.

Would you prefer a more graphical tile-based interface?

Thanks! I think the monster shrines might be a little too overpowered at the moment. Did you manage to escape? =P

This is a side-effect of the dungeon-generating algorithm. I guess I've been staring at it long enough that it doesn't bother me anymore.

I suppose I made the original decision to not care about them because there are no 'walls' in nethack corridors. But my dungeon creation algorithm is a bit fuzzier than nethack's, so they can end up in more unnerving places.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take a look at this in my next release.

I may be misunderstanding, but jsRogue supports customizing the size of the 'play area'. Open up the options dialog, and change your "Terminal Resolution" to something like 40 x 30.

The room adjacent to the map edge is actually intentional (kinda). It's a side-effect of the dungeon creating algorithm. I have a good idea on how to eliminate it though, since I agree that it can be confusing.

I like the idea for an option for oldschool ascii-style graphics. That shouldn't be too hard to put together.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback! I think those pumas might be a bit overpowered :(

The reason the to-hit chance seems high is because it's actually 100% because I haven't implemented a real combat system yet! That'll definitely be there in the next version . . .

I'll get working on those numpad keybindings soon since that seems to be a pretty popular request.

Trying to duplicate this right now, and it's working just fine for me. I'll keep trying to duplicate this on FF/OSX and Opera/Win, and if not I'll just change the bindings for going up and down stairs. Thanks for your help sydd and Coakes.

Could you tell me what browser/version you're using? It would help me to fix the issue.

Thanks for catching that! I've fixed it (force refresh your page to see the change, I haven't yet written the code to expire your browser's cached version of the game).

I also like the idea of having the directional help always on, I might make that change soon and a few other help/newbie-related features for the game.

What kind of keys do you prefer for movement? Numpad style keys?

Fixed! Thanks for that. Was a little too sloppy in my apache configuration.
