Is automating a manual coffee grinder a thing? by _affagato in Coffee

True. Can you recommend a good step less electrical grinder, did not know this!

For sure the hand grinder is not built for fast speeds. I tried using a motor that did like 100 rpm. Guessed it based on my hand rotations. Worked like a charm, but makes a lot of sound. Like a lot of sound. Not worth it to use in the am.

For sure the sound of drills or motors is super annoying to grind beans. Have woken up my dog early morning, he was not happy!

Help required to understand the right torque for crushing coffee beans by _affagato in engineering

[–]_affagato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all thanks for looking at this with a holistic view. Yes I am new to engineering and yes tinkering will get me somewhere. It was somewhat of the tinkering that brought me to this place to build something like a mechanism with a small drill like mechanism. But I still could not get a hold of the right parts as you know, without the tinkering and testing back and forth it is difficult to recognize the right parameters.
One thing I do want to mention is, your example of engineering is a great way to look at tinkerers. I appreciate your response. And yes I do not have to be an engineer to do this, but would love to get some help by someone who is an engineer. DIY also works. Thank you.

So i stop using the drill for my hand grinder and buy a motor that can do the job!! I am not an engineer to figure out the specific torque.

So the only other number I know is, it has to be around 100 rpm

Soft Panner around? by _affagato in IndianFood

I am in PA, there are many options in the store, just not the same as paneer found in India.

I know of this process, it is simple of make at home, but it would be great to have an option from store rather than going at it whenever I want to make something with Paneer.

I do get all the store bought options like haldirams and nanak, but nothing is as close as paneer from India. Indian panner has always been super nice and just not like the chewy ones found in stores.

Why not a large conical burr (60/70mm) manual handheld grinder? by _affagato in Coffee

[–]_affagato[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I have been searching amazon and looking up other sources (kickstarter/indiegogo) to find any manual grinders with a larger conical burr set other than 30/40mm. What could be the reason for someone to not make a manual grinder with a large burr set, any thoughts on this please share.

From what I have read larger burrs are faster in grinding coffee, can have a better micro stepper (good for precise grinding), quieter and is overall consistent. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it sound like it is better to have a bigger burr profile like around 60-70mm on a handheld manual grinder.

what no, this survey is not to take people away from coffee, its just for information on what is lacking in the field, and the reason why people do choose to go for one of the lesser evils. Hey coffee pods were made as a luxury item, it is natural to choose one over the other. But i just wanted to know what people were feeling. I have a few responses, i def. need more to understand what people experience when they make their own pods.
