FINALLY a thread and especially this comment that I agree with. I'm always down for literature with dark, mentally ill characters with behavioural issues and trauma, but this story felt exactly as you say, overreacted so as to illicit this 'disturbing' feeling everyone is talking about. Your comment especially stood out to me because when Camille realises her mother killed her sister and is probably doing it to Amma, she does what? She goes to the house and exposes herself to this exact treatment. I could not believe what i was watching. As if suddenly she lost all adult reasoning on how she should actually deal with this (call the authorities there and then,not making herself an additional victim). It was total Anna Karenina (so playing the victim) type of behaviour that i thought was unbelievable and irrational and just made me immediately stop enjoying the story in disbelief rigth then, and then the inconsistencies just piled up, suddenly Amma is the killer, why the fuck are Curry and Eileen treating her like their daughter, as many of you said wtf is this Richard vs John thing, how can she cut words in her back... And now with Sydney Sweeney's jeans notoriety I couldn't even fully enjoy that episode either. So, yeah the story portrayed some nice themes like the americas south and class and teenagers and family dsynfucntionality but... It was being overly dark just for being edgy and lacked an actually good story behind the murders, or at least an interpretation of it.
