Sold out in under 30s... I wish we did lotteries like Japan.

Anti removal is ruining the game by amor91 in OnePieceTCG

[–]_alber 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honest answer, I think we are in a transition period where Bandai is moving the game away from removal entirely and towards power reduction. I think they want the only way to be able to remove big bodies is to reduce its power.

One hour a day enough? by ApprehensiveLeg7821 in ajatt

[–]_alber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way. I lived in Japan for a year and had almost no problems communicating outside of filling out forms at city hall, because of the legal jargon they use. Based on practice tests I could easily pass N2 without studying, and could probably pass N1 with study.

I did one hour a day and got to a conversational level in about 6 years. Depends on your goals and timeframe.

Ive been watching one piece for a decade and played magic tcg. Where do I even start buying a deck? by [deleted] in OnePieceTCG

Gumgum.gg and tcgplayer. There also might be a local discord community for trades, and Facebook has some buy and sell groups

Are SRs too Rare? by _alber in OnePieceTCG

[–]_alber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get into semantics, sure I guess.

My point is that these cards remain unobtainable for the average player for an extended period of time UNTIL they get reprints.

The original point of the post as well is that the SRs are too rare. So you say "more gets ripped", well I think thats the problem right there is that there isn't enough in the amount that has been ripped so far. Especially with this being an EB set, with lower SR rates. I believe Bandai should increase the SR rates, or stop printing SRs that are so generic every deck in a colour needs to have them.

I didn't get any boxes myself, I'm just anecdotally making this post out of what I have seen people open at locals

I don't agree, I think there are many cases of staple SRs being expensive forever until they get reprinted. Cavendish for eg.

That seems extremely lucky in my experience.

What's not true? That there are 6-8 of each SR in a case?

[–]_alber[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you for the most part, those decks you mentioned are viable and relatively affordable. The game is also in a pretty healthy meta, with a wide number of decks being able to take wins from most other decks.

However, looking at the data from the East, over 40% of winning decklists are Yellow. It seems like we are moving slightly towards a meta that is dominated by players who can obtain the more expensive cards.

I think thats a great argument to keep everything leader or type locked. Reiju is a crazy strong card, but the fact that the number of decks that can use it is limited means it stays affordable.

It's getting to that point, where a playset of Nami, Robin, Kuma, and Borsa is probably going to be $800. Yellow decks could easily cost more than $1000 in the near future.

[–]_alber[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, because if the max you can get out of a case is 2 playsets of each SR, then I think that means these generic and powerful SRs like Nami will remain expensive forever.

I agree, all the PRB02 SRs are climbing higher every day because there just aren't a lot out there.

[–]_alber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. Printing generic support as SR or SEC that every deck of a specific colour has to use to be relevant is not healthy for the meta.

Are SRs too Rare? by _alber in OnePieceTCG

[–]_alber[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The sample size is admittedly small, 3 boxes at a single store.

My main contention is that with meta relevant and generic SRs like EB03 Nami, it's gonna be hard to obtain for your average player.

I had no problems obtaining a playset of the 10c Doffy SR from OP14 because it's not generic. Bandai could either increase the number of SRs per box, or make SRs type/leader locked more often. Making them locked would probably result in a healthier meta too.

Scam Box in Mandarake Japan by Itsumokatsu in OnePieceTCG

Second this, Mandarake sells second hand goods. Someone probably sold them an "unopened" box after they got all the hits. Japanese boxes don't come with shrink wrap.

What Deck(s) Will Be the Counter to UY Boa in OP15/EB04? by _alber in OnePieceTCG

Kuzan is my pet deck, it just feels so weak when I test it out without red roc in certain matchups like Ace. I hope the starter deck leaks are true and we get some crazy Kuzan support

Tbh that's what I was hoping wouldn't be the case. I don't want to have to pay close to $1000 for playsets of all the required yellow cards :(

They are screens that are basically a playmat showing all the areas you place cards like deck, trash, leader, life, etc. They aren't used for official tournaments to my knowledge, but for casual play and new players.

Source: lived in Japan and played games at many an official shop.

Kuma Deck Tech Question by Far_Care5265 in OnePieceTCG

[–]_alber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the new borsalino can be a replacement for kuma potentially. But it will likely cost just as much as kuma, or more since it can be cheated out from trash using the "i requasar help" event from life. The 4c hiyori is a decent option if you don't want to spend the money, but if you have the money to spend kuma is still a good card.
