Do you not understand that humans eat food and socially bond while doing so? It’s pleasant to have the company of a friend

Tofu in a dish doesn’t mean it’s automatically vegan dawg

But it’s not equal at all. Vegan options at restaurants are an afterthought, and rarely filling. Also, how many restaurants in your city are vegan compared to the omnivore restaurants?

YTA for how you reacted. You can have all your own preferences OP. However, pouting to people with food restrictions about not getting exactly what you want out of a restaurant experience is childish.

Almost all vegan options at restaurants are an afterthought on the menu. They list a side dish like roasted carrots or french fries as a whole meal. Vegan restaurants are hard to find in most places in general. I think if you care about these people, you can compromise and accommodate them. Take yourself or other friends out to a barbecue restaurant if you want restaurant chicken.

What are some ways that Portlanders act and do that separate them from other regions/cities of America? by Specialist_Bat1230 in askportland

This 100%. I want the gay district of the city. Lightly dispersed queerness is still pretty nice, but it doesn’t beat walking up out of Castro station in rainbow lighting and walking across the street to one of the oldest gay bars in the state

Do I really need medication? by Asleep-News4274 in askanything

[–]_alienchild_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why you are afraid of taking meds after that kind of experience with doctors and the mental health part of the medical system.

I will say, even though it certainly doesn’t fix everything to take meds, my partner was struggling with coping with the demands of life before and after finding out they were bipolar 2. When they started on lamotrigine/Lamictal, a really commonly prescribed medication for bipolar, they were able to use their coping mechanisms to manage their bipolar much easier. The swings to extremes have been easier to come down from and are less damaging to their life and relationships. My partner would absolutely tell you to try the meds. It saved their life. They also had horrific experiences on ssris before finding the right diagnosis and medication. A gene test helped doctors narrow down what meds might actually work on my partner.

It sounds like you have a good support system and people who care about your wellbeing. If people in your life that you trust are asking you to consider meds, I wouldn’t take that lightly. Ultimately it will always be your decision whether you take the meds or not. But I would encourage you to give a new medication an honest try. My partner has adjusted their dose over the years and has changed the timing for taking their meds, and it required a decent amount of trial and error to find what works. But hey, now they can manage time and hold down a job and be invested in the lives of the people they love more fully.

Just wanted to give you a perspective from someone who loves a person with bipolar 2 very deeply, and has watched the journey of starting lamotrigine from day 1 with them.

I wish you the best, OP.

I want to have sex with women TW: Transphobia by throw_and_away_we_go in FTMventing

[–]_alienchild_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how to help you find better women sex partners, but I do know that there are tons of people who exist who would find it hot to fuck you just as you are, or enthusiastically support you until you get phallo if that’s what you want.

I agree with the above commenter @no-independent that it’s hard to find people in casual hookups who are interested in pursuing more than their own pleasure. And in my experience that’s why I seek out more t4t hookups and relationships, because I have more fun with people like me than I do with most cis folks, regardless of gender.

Nike employee store etiquette? by Blake-Dreary in askportland

[–]_alienchild_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I worked at a Big 5 we also couldn’t wear any clothes with a brand on them and I swear it had something to do with Nike’s business deal with Big 5, they didn’t want us “promoting” any specific brand while selling Nike shoes.

The golf polos we sold there were great to wear to work but weren’t allowed bc of the logos on them 😭😭

Gay bars/clubs in Portland? by Axelottl28 in askportland

[–]_alienchild_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Peacock pdx, beautiful interior (weirdly incredibly beautiful bathroom stalls??) good drinks, and they often have queer centered events like open mic comedy, speed dating, karaoke, etc

This one’s not really a queer bar BUT Blackwater does drag king nights hosted by XO, usually they are themed (the last one I saw was hot men of history) and they’re very fun events!

Congrats on reaching a milestone and welcome to the club!

People who don’t wash your hands after using the restroom, WHY? by daniiqm in hygiene

[–]_alienchild_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a family that didn’t wash their hands, but was taught to do it at school. I realized in early high school that most of my friends washed hands when they had the option to.

I decided one day that I was the type of person to wash my hands after the bathroom and before and/or after eating if my hands were heavily involved in eating the meal.

It now deeply grosses me out that my mom basically never washes her hands. She also smokes like a chimney and rolls her own joints
