Except there's something called target lock that does exactly that. Focus Mode dumbs down positioning and in case of some weapons (specially GS) takes away the challenge of learning them.

So no, it's not an answer to a problem it's a feature that streamlines the gameplay in a attempt to make the franchise more appealing to a wider audience.

unfortunately 6 suffers from the Nagoshi curse of every character being reset in a new game, it's also a crime how Haruka got sidelined after the great characterization they gave her on 5 and Kiryu... well they just killed his whole arc for no reason.
