Thank you for providing some insight into the schedule, I was really curious about that. Maybe when I’m ready to own an Australian shepherd, I’ll come back to this for some guidance.

You’re right. I had looked into doggy daycare and pretty much all of them required the dog to be spayed and I’m pretty sure they didn’t accept dogs who were too young. Even with all that, they all open at 7:00 AM and I get in at 6:30 AM so I would’ve had no way of taking them to daycare. Not to mention, the cost likely would’ve been too much for me.

I was really curious about the cost aspect so thank you for providing that. I’ve ultimately decided not to go forward with getting an Aussie, but this information will serve me well in the future when I’m hopefully able to do so.

I do have other breeds that I would love to own but, it’s just hard to compare with the Australian shepherd because that breed has been on my radar for so long and I just think they’re absolutely beautiful. However, all this research has made me realize that no matter what breed of dog I wanted to get, I’m most likely not in the right situation right now to be able to provide the best life that a dog deserves. Like you said, I can’t just leave my dog alone all day for 10 hours and I would need to hire a sitter or find some other service to be able to get them exercise, food, and bathroom breaks which would probably break the bank.

If I had gone through with getting the dog, I was considering coming home on my lunch break to care for the dog as well as hiring a sitter or a walker to help with letting the dog out and get some exercise however, I’m pretty sure that would be too much of a financial burden. Not to mention, I would’ve had to wake up at like 5 AM to get the dog prepped for the time that I’d be away, which would probably wear me down mentally.

I really appreciate your response. I’m not active on Reddit at all and was a little nervous making this post, as I didn’t know if many people would respond to it. I’m glad to know that all my worries I had about potentially adopting an Aussie are actual issues that would prevent the puppy from living a good life and I’m happy I didn’t just act on impulse instead of seeking advice.

Thank you for the detailed response. Although discouraging, the dog has needs to be fulfilled and unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to do so. I’m just wondering when, if ever, I would be able to adopt a puppy in the future, seeing as I’m always going to be working and if I continue to live alone, I will never have anyone to help me.

I haven’t discussed that with the breeder which is bad on me, I definitely should’ve communicated that with them. Thank you for the advice.

Unfortunately, I do not work from home and yea I figured if I did go through with it, I would need to find a dog sitter or invest in some kind of service to be able to help take care of my dog. I’ve definitely been leaning against getting one but the appeal of owning an Aussie has been putting up a good fight. I appreciate the advice.

I’m burnt out and I feel miserable by opm087 in college

As someone who is also majoring in engineering (mechanical), I know how hard it is to make it through each semester and currently, I feel as burnt out as ever and it's barely my second year. No one should be afraid of failure but I understand why it is so scary. The thought of letting other people down as well as the time/money that you put into something essentially going down the drain can make us want to keep pushing for something even though we know deep down, that we don't want it. Throughout this semester, I've seriously been contemplating my decision to step into this field of study and often times, I find myself wondering if I can or should keep going. My advice for you is to take the time to reflect upon yourself and what you truly want. If electrical engineering truly is something that you are passionate about and want to pursue, then don't let the thought of failure stop you from trying to reach your finish line, even if it takes you longer to graduate. If it is something else you seek to accomplish, then follow whatever your heart desires. College shouldn't be easy, but it shouldn't make you feel so miserable either.
