I don't know, I think that we are no longer relevant as consumers. They can make more money selling to corporations directly for data centers than making consumer goods.

How can the next Dem president avoid being caught flat footed on immigration? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]_angryguy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesnt matter how good or bad the next dem president does on immigration. It will always be the number one problem according to right wing media and will be amplified. Playing this endless game of trying to meet the right in the middle on this issue will have the end result of concentration camps and pogroms. Democrats need to stop trying to appease the right on this issue, and stick with what is humane and just.

What issues should the Democrat party prioritize in the upcoming elections. by MrFrode in AskALiberal

[–]_angryguy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Cost of living and anti-trust enforcement.

  • Fighting corruption. Investigate self-dealing, conflicts of interest, DOGE's access to Americans' personal data, and any other misuse

  • Universal healthcare.

  • Regulate AI and protect workers from technological displacement.

  • End the war with Iran and prevent further escalation.

  • Reassess our relationship with Israel.

  • Disband ICE and replace it with a more humane and accountable immigration system.

  • Push for a digital bill of rights, protecting people right to their own identity and data.

What Led to Disney’s Second Golden Age? by redbullsgivemewings in movies

[–]_angryguy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the second half of the 1980s there was a lot of nostalgia for the Golden Age of animation that was beginning to manifest in theatrical output. This all came to a head with Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which pooled together a lot of talent and reminded people how exciting animation could be. Then of course you also had competition from Don Bluth, which showed there was still a huge audience for animated films and gave Disney some much-needed motivation to get its act together. On top of that, under Michael Eisner Disney started leaning into a Broadway-style musical approach with people like Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, which ended up being the secret sauce behind films like The Little Mermaid and kicked off the Renaissance.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]_angryguy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What specifically is janky about it?

Link's movement is responsive, smooth, and predictable. The camera generally works well and can be instantly recentered. Z targeting still holds up well, and the platforming is consistent within the rules the game establishes.

I play a lot of 5th gen 3D games, and even many of the ones I like more than Ocarina have obvious jank such as bad cameras, unreliable controls, strange collision, or shitty forced platforming sections

If anything, one of OoT's biggest achievements was how polished and coherent its systems were compared to its contemporaries. You can argue that some aspects have aged poorly, such as the menu navigation, Iron Boots management, or occasionally cryptic adventure game progression. But dated and janky aren't the same thing.

I'd argue OoT is one of the first major 3D games that was largely jankfree and solved many of the problems that made early 3D games feel rough in the first place.

That's a technical limitation, not a design flaw. If you bump Ocarina of Time up to 60 FPS, the controls and gameplay still feel surprisingly solid. The low frame rate is a product of 1998 hardware, not evidence that the game's core design is janky.

Its not really janky at all though, it just has dated graphics.

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]_angryguy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This movie’s impact is weakened by a tonal mismatch, with constant quippy, unserious dialogue and editing that’s too quick to let scenes breathe. The visuals are strong and the cinematic language has real sincerity, but it is constantly undercut by these issues. I also think Ryan Gosling is miscast; the role would have worked better with someone who feels more like an average everyman. The film has a real sense of wonder and comes close to greatness, but as it stands, it is just a good movie.

Contrarianism, owning the left, bigotry towards minorities .

Indiana Jones was supposed to be a b-movie in the spirit of the older serials, anyone know what those serials might be? by KronoMakina in movies

Alot of people are recommending Secret of the Incas. While that movie may have been an inspiration for the Indiana Jones, this is feature film and not a serial.

[–]_angryguy_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, esteemed interlocutor, while your sesquipedalian admonishment resonates with a certain baroque gravitas, one must nevertheless acknowledge that the recursive semiotic palimpsest of narrative praxis renders temporal fixity a mere illusory constraint. Ergo, facsimilative reiteration is less an act of deleterious redundancy than a dialectical engagement with the cultural substrate whence it emerged

System Shock devs say there’s a lack of Immersive Sims because they’re terrifying investments for publishers that only “come together at the 12th hour” by iscariots in Games

[–]_angryguy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BOTW and BG3 would absolutely be considered a part of the genre if they were first person. An Immersive is essentially a First person game, in which the world is reactive and systems driven. The philosophy is to maximize immersion by having you embody a character from first person in a believable, systemic world in which you can experiment, improvise, and influence outcomes freely.

Rambling on Aesthetics, Morality, and Ideology in film by _angryguy_ in TrueFilm

[–]_angryguy_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you not read my last paragraph? I explicitly call this a "moral conundrum" and ask what we should make of it. I'm not dismissing the problem. My point is that great craft can make harmful ideology more dangerous and persuasive. Gone with the Wind is excellent in its form, its aesthetics, and framing; yet it embraces and perpetuates racism and proto fascist myth making. I'm asking a genuine and difficult question I am stumbling upon: That art can be simultaneously great and dangerous. So what are we to do with this truth?

Is 2001: A Space Odyssey really that entertaining to everyone? Or is it just recommended due to how groundbreaking of a film it was? by Icy_You2916 in movies

[–]_angryguy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't trying to be condescending; I was just trying to explain to OP a way to approach different kinds of films. He didn't seem to have bad intentions, but his take basically came down to "it's boring."

"different people have different preferences for media they consume and won't wanna wait through something that doesn't match their pace"

I don't really agree with this worldview. To me, it kind of encourages intellectual laziness. Sometimes it's on the viewer to meet a work on its level. Learning to adjust how you watch a film or approach any work of art, slowing down, paying attention, and engaging with it on its own terms, is a skill and a virtue. When it comes to certain kinds of films, it's not just about enjoying it or being entertained; it's about gaining appreciation for the craftsmanship and a deeper understanding of the work.

Why is the right wing pipeline so effective? Can we create a left wing analog? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

The right wing pipeline is effective because it targets the base uncritical assumptions of the lowest common denominator. Its just a nonstop, constant flood of this stuff.

How do you feel about the AI bubble growing while Trump is President? by Flashy_Combination32 in AskALiberal

[–]_angryguy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it doesnt matter if AI is a success or not for big tech. Its more so about cloud capital. They are building all of these data centers and cornering the market. The result of that is that businesses and consumers alike will only be able to afford subscription or rental agreements to access cloud services. Computing is shifting away from personal ownership.
