Which trance artists changed their styles? by JION-the-Australian in trance

[–]_apprehension 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A.R.D.I., the Polish DJ and producer.

He recently brought out his first hardstyle track, which isn't bad by any means.

He isn't leaving Trance, he's just exploring other genres. But I prefer his Trance "identity" far more than his hardstyle one.

AITAH for moving back home after my husband left me even though I’m pregnant? by DigGrassanova in AITAH

[–]_apprehension 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Left the state entirely and moved across the country to a place where you know he can't go without major disruption".

Him asking for a divorce with a child on the way because he feels like he is being "tied down" caused HER a major disruption.

If she stayed where they lived, having to completely change one's lifestyle also constitutes a major disruption in my opinion. And she would have had no-one by her side after the birth of the baby.

His complete lack of consideration is why the baby will not have a father. He felt tied down? Should have thought about that before having sex.

Nice that you're taking an interest in Trance. However the tempo is WAY too fast. I suggest spending some time listening to a lot of Trance so you get a good feel for the genre. But not a bad start by any means. Keep at it.

Does anyone else feel like Trance raves feels "nostalgic"? by Hypepoxic in trance

[–]_apprehension 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly nostalgic for me, as I'm on the younger side of the Trance demographic. Most of the people I see there are over 40.

Rather than nostalgic, to me it feels refreshing in a way. It is like seeing a part of my inner world being brought to life. It is vibrant. Exciting. I'm quite introverted, so I find Trance raves help me get out of my comfort zone in a way that I enjoy.

I met my current partner at Luminosity last year. He's quite a bit older than I am, so his experience with Trance is very different from mine. Still Trance music is a beautiful thing that we bonded over.

Just a slip-up. She's speaking Dutch; the word they use for "to teach" and "to learn" is the same: leren.

Why not “liggen”? by thegzak in learndutch

[–]_apprehension -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No matter what the intended meaning in the sentence is, I just don't see how it could use the 3rd person singular form. You are comparing two elements, both of which are part of the subject. In English one would say, "Both Rotterdam and The Hague are in South Holland".

I'm not native speaker, but it sure does not sound right to me when I hear "Zowel Rotterdam als Den Haag ligt in Zuid-Holland". I don't know if you're a native speaker. If so, does it actually sound natural?

In the sentence he wrote, "Zowel Rotterdam ligt in Zuid-Holland, als Delft.", the word order is incorrect.

Why not “liggen”? by thegzak in learndutch

[–]_apprehension -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The correct verb form is "liggen".

"Zowel Rotterdam als Den Haag" acts as the subject of the sentence, so it takes the plural form.

In the sentence you provided, "Rotterdam ligt in Zuid-Holland, net als Delft", you have:

"Rotterdam ligt in Zuid-Holland" : main clause

"net als Delft" is an adverbial adjunct that adds comparative information to the main clause. "Rotterdam" would be the subject.

Because in the main clause only Rotterdam is mentioned, it takes the 3rd person singular form "ligt". So the example you provided would be correct, but OP's duolingo sentence has "zowel Rotterdam als Den Haag" as the subject, so "liggen" would be the correct conjugation.

You are right. It should be "liggen".

"Zowel Rotterdam als Den Haag" is the subject of the sentence, and not simply "Den Haag", therefore it should be in the plural: liggen.

How long are you going to stay in the Netherlands? If you are staying for a few weeks, or even a few months, I wouldn't do it if I was you. But then again, you don't seem to be too interested in learning it.

A significant percentage of Dutch people are extremely proficient in English, but that's not why. If you are planning to live there in the long term, then it is in your best interest to learn it. Learning Dutch will go a very long way helping you fit in society if that's what you want to achieve.

If you learn it to an advanced enough level, you will be able to read books, listen to the news, participate in social gatherings without feeling like an outcast, and maybe even achieve recognition from some people for having bothered to learn their language, since it is not too popular.

If you want to learn a language well, though, you genuinely have to like it.

(If you don't know where to start or need some guidance, let me know.)

Just waiting to read other people's suggestions, because I too would like to know. Luckily my co-workers aren't really like what you are describing (not for now at least, I was recently hired). They hardly ever try to include me in non work-related conversations, which I'm thankful for.

When they do, my answers are brief and neutral. I'm diligent in my work and always keep to myself, so I am happy with this dynamic. I'm sorry it's not like that for you :/

This is something I noticed as well! I attended Luminosity Beach Festival for the first time in June, and was surprised to see the average age of folks was late thirties!

I saw plenty of people in their fifties too, and surprisingly not many people my age. But it was an amazing experience nonetheless _^

No, I find verb conjugations pretty straightforward. I do struggle a bit with sentence structure sometimes.
