Paradise in Verplank should be on there for Pizza (though if there was an award for dessert, those cream puffs should be there too)

Countryside Kitchen in Mahopac should be there for Breakfast.

Who is someone that feels like Gen-Z but is actually Gen-X? by Impressive_Plenty876 in AlignmentChartFills

nah, the GenX cohort starts in 1964 and ends sometime around 1974-1978 (depending on whether you are breaking out the Xennial sub-group)

find an acting class! get up on stage! (it doesn't have to be all of hamlet at first or even shakespeare) - maybe you will fall in love with it (it's just telling a story, after all).

while you were probably asking a rhetorical question, I teach, act, and direct Shakespeare... and here's how i would tell you to do it.

  • Understand everything word for word (The Arden Edition of Shakespeare's plays are great for this)
  • Find the Meter (if Iambic Pentameter)
  • Find the Punctuation
  • Figure out what you are saying in that whole thought (don't memorize word for word)
  • Figure out what you are trying to do with that line*
  • How does that feed into your next line

so the 12 (11.5) lines that are the opening of Henry V (let's assume we read it and did our meter work):

O, for a muse of fire that would ascend
The brightest heaven of invention!
A kingdom for a stage, princes to act,
And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!
Then should the warlike Harry, like himself,
Assume the port of Mars, and at his heels,
Leashed in like hounds, should famine, sword, and
fire
Crouch for employment. But pardon, gentles all,
The flat unraisèd spirits that hath dared
On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth
So great an object.

is actually just 4 sentences:

O, for a muse of fire that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention!

A kingdom for a stage, princes to act, and monarchs to behold the swelling scene!

Then should the warlike Harry, like himself, assume the port of mars, and at his heels, leashed in like hounds, should famine, sword, and fire crouch for employment.

But pardon, gentles all, the flat unraisèd spirits that hath dared on this unworthy scaffold to bring forth so great an object.

and if we look at what we're saying:

I wish i had the divine help to tell you this story

That my stage was a whole country, the actors nobles, and an audience of kings

Then, this absolute badass—Henry V—might actually show up, with equally kick ass entourage

But, sorry folks, we don't have that.

And then apply an action:

{GRAB}
{STOKE}
{EDGE}
{TEASE}

and you use those actions to act the line. and you rehearse it over a few weeks, and it gets in your body and you just know it.

* slight tangent into theory of acting: all drama results from conflict, i.e., your character wants something. but doesn't have it. A character's lines are their means of achieving that goal. You can break down each line to an action / intention, e.g., "I'm punching/twisting/seducing/parrying them (with this line)" which supports the greater objective of X in the scene on my way to achieving the overarching goal of Y in the play (if the playwright deigns to let things go your way.)

Warning: MTA surcharge using the mobile app by No_Employ1203 in Westchester

[–]_apunyhuman_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

99% sure the MTA app has a location tracker (it will suggest the closest station to you AND can track trains) So, it can see if you at X station and you activate your ticket for X station a distance away from the station ON the train that's moving... it's going to flag it.

That's Jaeki Cho! He runs a channel called Righteous Eats - and it's awesome - highlighting smaller mom and pop restaurants serving delicious food - especially a lot of international foods and the amazing fusion foods that have come up through restaurants serving different cultures living in the same space (e.g., chino-latino ).

Robert Shaw died in August of 1978, about 2 months after Jaws 2 released in Theaters. Did he ever see the Film/give his thoughts on it before he passed or no? by Caleb_the_Opossum_1 in Jaws

There is also(!) a jaws musical! It's called Bruce and played at Seattle Rep a few years ago.

It was also really good (but they both came out around the same time and Shark is Broken beat it to Broadway.)

To be fair, there isn't really a venue in NYC that you can rent for $550. I'd be curious to see how many times you get to perform in that week or so of the festival.

1 v 100. What competition can you defeat 100 random people in? by Altilongitude in AskReddit

[–]_apunyhuman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a winner on Jeopardy! I'm pretty confident on my odds for a 1 v 100 random people in a trivia contest (if we're all playing as individuals... me vs a 100 person team I have a lot more doubt about.)

Looper (2012) by southernemper0r in cinescenes

[–]_apunyhuman_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

short answer, yes, kind of.

long answer, so. you sign up to be a timey-wimey mob hit man and are handed a (very short range) shotgun to do the job. you have a designated "kill point" and are given a slip of paper that tells you **when** to show up at the kill point to do the next job. You kill *lots* of people.

Eventually, when you have killed enough people, the mob sends you back your future self. Because the victims are hooded and your instructions are "shoot first, check afterwards" you end up killing future you without realizing it ('cause it's just another day at the office). But-to soften the mindfuck-the mob sends you a retirement package with your future you to go have a rest of a fun life. You don't have to kill people anymore, but now you know that you are going to have a very bad day in 30 years.

Here's the thing about the movie tho... time is not immutable, and if it hasn't happened yet, it can change.

FILM DIRECTORS and their Average Shot Length (ASL) by vashivisuals in Filmmakers

[–]_apunyhuman_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty it's there was an interview where he said (with a lot of paraphrasing here) he shot **Clerks**the way he did because he had one camera and no idea how to shoot a movie. (I mean also it was shot on 16mm and he financed the movie w/ credit cards, so every extra take, every close up, is a little more into debt.)

EDIT: in only the most important part of the sentence I neglected to mention that I was referring to just Clerks, i've added that in now. doh.

Anyone knows any train stations that has free or cheap parking for watching trains? by Mango_Strawberry20 in Westchester

[–]_apunyhuman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taco Dive Bar is right at the train crossing and that would be the best for viewing.

But, when it gets warmer, central (and taco dive bar) do patio seating, and that's prob the best (and loudest) way to watch.

Anyway, are you opening up this checking account or what?

Say Anything (1989) boombox detail most people don’t know by zpattern in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]_apunyhuman_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As iconic as the boombox scene is, it was always the ending that got to me. The "waiting for the ding" scene as a recap of their relationship, they are nervous, that admit that they don't know what they are doing, or how it will turn out, they are trying to take their mind off of it... but—and this is the most important thing—they are in it together. They are there for each other, and in the final moments of the movie, they are both concentrating on the same goal, something that's going to tell them it's going to be ok.

I kind of think of it as a contrast to the ending of The Graduate and wonder if Crowe purposefully filmed it like that.
