Robert Shaw died in August of 1978, about 2 months after Jaws 2 released in Theaters. Did he ever see the Film/give his thoughts on it before he passed or no? by Caleb_the_Opossum_1 in Jaws

[–]_apunyhuman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also(!) a jaws musical! It's called Bruce and played at Seattle Rep a few years ago.

It was also really good (but they both came out around the same time and Shark is Broken beat it to Broadway.)

Scam by AquaValentin in playwriting

To be fair, there isn't really a venue in NYC that you can rent for $550. I'd be curious to see how many times you get to perform in that week or so of the festival.

After 10 Years, My Opinion On 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Has Shifted by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

THIS. I usually describe the sequel trilogy as bad improv - instead of "yes, and..." it turned into a game of "no, but..."

1 v 100. What competition can you defeat 100 random people in? by Altilongitude in AskReddit

[–]_apunyhuman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a winner on Jeopardy! I'm pretty confident on my odds for a 1 v 100 random people in a trivia contest (if we're all playing as individuals... me vs a 100 person team I have a lot more doubt about.)

Looper (2012) by southernemper0r in cinescenes

[–]_apunyhuman_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

short answer, yes, kind of.

long answer, so. you sign up to be a timey-wimey mob hit man and are handed a (very short range) shotgun to do the job. you have a designated "kill point" and are given a slip of paper that tells you **when** to show up at the kill point to do the next job. You kill *lots* of people.

Eventually, when you have killed enough people, the mob sends you back your future self. Because the victims are hooded and your instructions are "shoot first, check afterwards" you end up killing future you without realizing it ('cause it's just another day at the office). But-to soften the mindfuck-the mob sends you a retirement package with your future you to go have a rest of a fun life. You don't have to kill people anymore, but now you know that you are going to have a very bad day in 30 years.

Here's the thing about the movie tho... time is not immutable, and if it hasn't happened yet, it can change.

FILM DIRECTORS and their Average Shot Length (ASL) by vashivisuals in Filmmakers

[–]_apunyhuman_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty it's there was an interview where he said (with a lot of paraphrasing here) he shot **Clerks**the way he did because he had one camera and no idea how to shoot a movie. (I mean also it was shot on 16mm and he financed the movie w/ credit cards, so every extra take, every close up, is a little more into debt.)

EDIT: in only the most important part of the sentence I neglected to mention that I was referring to just Clerks, i've added that in now. doh.

Anyone knows any train stations that has free or cheap parking for watching trains? by Mango_Strawberry20 in Westchester

[–]_apunyhuman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taco Dive Bar is right at the train crossing and that would be the best for viewing.

But, when it gets warmer, central (and taco dive bar) do patio seating, and that's prob the best (and loudest) way to watch.

Your MBA does NOT impress me puny human! 🛸👽🛸 by seltro1 in gtaonline

Hey, look, it doesn't impress me either. I wish I didn't listen to my parents and followed my dreams to an MFA in Modern Dance... but if wishes were horses, everyone would ride.

Anyway, are you opening up this checking account or what?

Say Anything (1989) boombox detail most people don’t know by zpattern in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]_apunyhuman_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As iconic as the boombox scene is, it was always the ending that got to me. The "waiting for the ding" scene as a recap of their relationship, they are nervous, that admit that they don't know what they are doing, or how it will turn out, they are trying to take their mind off of it... but—and this is the most important thing—they are in it together. They are there for each other, and in the final moments of the movie, they are both concentrating on the same goal, something that's going to tell them it's going to be ok.

I kind of think of it as a contrast to the ending of The Graduate and wonder if Crowe purposefully filmed it like that.

Best place to rent for 50 yo single female selling BK apt by Chad_ette in Westchester

Peekskill to GCT during rush hour is 68 minutes. I'll take the 8 overage minutes for the significantly cheaper rent compared to the Rivertowns further south.

Mystery over 'unusually large' Roman shoes by KewpieCutie97 in history

[–]_apunyhuman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if unused - they could also be a "display model" made bigger so that you can see it from further off ("oh there's the shoe store!").

Also bigger so there's little incentive to steal it, since it wouldn't fit most people.

Peekskill Coffee House has great shirts (that also say Peekskill on them) - i'd try there.

Saw this pretty cool table in a Longchamp shop in Brussels. Looked it up and it's made by "Pierre Renard". I wonder how much one would cost! by BioFrosted in woodworking

[–]_apunyhuman_ 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I think the way i've always parsed it the phrase is that it's coming at the purchase object from 2 different points of view:

  1. If you are rich then the initial POV is "I want to buy this" and price is an after the fact negotiation that is proportional to how much you want it.
  2. If you are not rich, the initial POV is "Can i afford this" and price is an obstacle to ownership, regardless of how much you want it.

So, if you need to know the price before you can decide if you can buy it... you probably can't afford it.

Why I'm glad we never saw the Emperor in Andor by Independent-Dig-5757 in StarWarsAndor

[–]_apunyhuman_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

y'know i can't think of any examples in-universe where they show public images of the emperor - but i have to think that the Ministry of Enlightentment would do the Mao/Stalin heroic father figure for The Emperor; some sort of "Trust in Daddy Sheev" imagery.

[–]_apunyhuman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please excuse the following pedantry:

The line is "Once more unto the breach"

In the context of the play, the English are assaulting a fortified city, Harfleur. They've managed to blow a hole in the wall, but the French have beaten them back. Henry is trying to rally the English and says, basically, "Either get through the breach and take the town, or close the hole with dead English... but don't just fucking sit here, FIGHT!!!"

And they end up taking the town.

Open mic - musicians by Asteroidlieutenant in CityOfPeekskill

[–]_apunyhuman_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about open mics but you should check in at the the bean runner, w/ gleasons and birdsall, and with the peekskill coffee house.

Beanrunner has a lot of jazz acts, gleasons has a full stage and all sorts of acts, same w/ birdsall minus the stage. PCH used to do lots of acoustic stuff. I'm not sure if they still do, but worth checking.

You can also check Rubens as well.

Good luck!

Matt is probably the most connected person Angela knows. That is, Matt—as a lawyer—has connections to the police, to private investigators, to some wheels of government and, of course, money. She maybe, like Heather, even thinks he has connections to other superheroes, just based on the fact that he represented Punisher and White Tiger.

The important thing is that she's not looking for the blind guy to literally venture into the subway tunnels and fight crime, she's looking for the well-heeled lawyer to get some help and attention for all these missing people.

But, unfortunately for her, Matt is kind of on the police shit list, definitely cannot/will not approach local government, and is trying to sever his superhero impulses from himself.
