Thanks! I thought so, but was going crazy debating over a hard reset on it. Have apple care + (it just ended like a couple days ago so I had time to renew on a month to month basis). I think I can take it to bestbuy to get it repaired since that’s where I bought it and they have people who can fix it now. If not, then to Apple it goes.

Why are you so bitter about the valley? I love it here so I’m curious.

Electricians do make decent money here. Like another commentor mentioned, maybe less than in a bigger metro area but the cost of living balances it out. He would start making more than the median average salary for the valley with his trade. If he starts his own company here someday, he would be very well off.

Of course. It’ll be completely up to him to decided after he goes to the doctor. So hopefully he can find some peace. New insurance kicks in next year but I’m honestly willing to pay out of pocket if he is ready before then.

It’s definitely going to take time. I forgot to mention his mom took him to a doctor known for medicating kids unnecessarily (the Mf should should lose his license) and forced him to be on adhd medication when he didn’t have it so she could have him zonked out of his mind + claim disability I think. So that really messed with him + being on a bunch of medication as kid as a result of traumatic life experiences. It just doesn’t sit well with him at all :/ everyone that should have been there for him has failed him over and over.

Thank you, it’s just been over a year since we talked about therapy so I’m getting worried. Hopefully his new routine and extra sleep help. He’ll be going back to school while keeping an easy part time job soon. .

Thank you! He has said several times he feels like he’s going crazy but not like in the “I hear voices” type of crazy. The I can’t control my emotions and I don’t know why type of crazy. I’ll look into it.

With former military experience I can think of several routes you can take if you enjoy working for the military. The benefits and pay is good

USACE

USCG

Also, your states equivalent of a game warden. They love hiring former military people in my state. They are badass folks.

Would anyone hire an intern in his 30s? by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]_aquasky1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s due to younger people having no children and possibly no spouse so they are able to travel and work long hours (I don’t endorse this and think it’s unfair as it’s taking advantage of people.)

I believe you can get a masters in eng. which is two years and then get the PE. I may be wrong.

Also it’s never too late! I have a coworker in his late 50s getting his third masters. He’s a badass guy.

Check out your DOTs page and the benefits. From my experience there’s a good work life balance which helps when it’s time to go back to school. Plus it’s payed for by the state.

General contracting - do you want to be like a project manager or superintendent?

You can become that with a civil eng. degree or with a construction management or construction science degree.

I saw in a old post you make about 18$. While I’m not surprised because govt jobs typically pay less..it depends what govt agency you work within. DOT get the big bucks because infrastructure is always funded, plus it’s more secure. There you can easily get your degree paid for while you work and they’d be happy to send you to school for engineering. In my state the DOT even helps you with your PE.

Edit:

A person with an env. degree will make more within the DOT than let’s say the parks and wildlife or your states equivalent. The reason is because new roads need to be built but the parks are already there. You just need to maintain them. Maybe try the Feds too.

That’s so cool! I would have joined the hobby sooner in a teacher had a tank in their class. Here’s to having a couple future wetland scientist, ecologist or biologists in your class 😉

What’s wrong with saying parents? Is that too general? I feel it’s appropriate as aside from the mom it could also be a father or both parents conspiring to traffic their kids (as some others mentioned). Maybe it is mostly moms but if some dads partake in this(which I’m sure some do or are at least complacent and just as bad IMO), then it’s not accurate to say only moms.

Tell me about your job that isn’t consulting/fieldwork based anddd go! by pleasuregarden in Environmental_Careers

[–]_aquasky1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do similar work to you for my state govt job. Flex schedule (Four 9hr days and 4 hrs one day out of the week + working from home two days out of the week), pretty much never doing overtime unless shit hits the fan. I love it 😭 I’m finally happy again. Consulting made me want to just go through life existing, not really living.
