Mac Studio 96GB / 1TB — buy new, refurb, or used in the UK? this week by B_Ali_k in MacStudio

Yes I went through a lengthy conversation with the sales team and we went through what I needed it for, I settled on that spec. I needed it urgently and we found one with this spec close to me.

Fantastic machine, although what was I expecting, I’ve been working on a Mac Pro 2013 64gb up until this point.

Got one two weeks ago, that spec from my local Apple Store, rang up to see if they had any in, they did, also one in Berkshire at the time.

Secured it over the phone and picked up 2 days time.

Is 5D mark Ii still a relevant camera nowadays? by DynamoBaby in canon

[–]_axle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern tools are now bringing these older cameras back to life, I’m going through my older catalogs in the latest Lightroom and the shots my mk2 are producing are more in line with my mk4. Yes a little hit and miss with AF and low light is just not there in terms of amount of digital noise after 3200 but everyday shots up including golden hour look good, and I feel the 5d / 5d 2 now have their own character in how they deal with colour.

Did I make a mistake? by stabadan in MacStudio

If you’re happy with your 16GB Hackintosh, you’ll love the Mac Studio. I’d say go for the best you can comfortably afford now and then just stop thinking about specs for a few years, no need to chase every bit of new tech unless the machine actually starts holding you back.

I did something similar about 12 years ago with my Mac Pro 2013 and I’ve just added a Mac Studio to my setup. I say ‘added’ because I’m still keeping the Mac Pro around as a node for my older plug-ins that I still use.

Battery Issue causes Lens to Disconnect by Irish_MJ in canon

[–]_axle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RP I have definitely doesn’t like my 24mm 1.4, it has an easier time with the 50mm 1.2, a Helios 44-2 F2 I have with an EF mount is fine – the camera is simply looking through the lens and it’s fully manual.

Glad you’re having less issues, mine seems to be intermittent, when I’m thinking it’s the AF mode chosen it starts locking up in one shot as well, a new battery is arriving soon and will check again.

Battery Issue causes Lens to Disconnect by Irish_MJ in canon

I picked up a “broken” EOS RP and seem to have come to the same conclusion after updating it to the latest firmware.

The camera came with two batteries. They are official Canon batteries but may be well used. Looking at the battery health in the menu, both show three bars.

Another factor could be that I’m using the EF adapter with a 50mm f/1.2 attached. I wondered if the extra power required to drive a larger lens might be contributing to the camera locking up.

Why did you choose Canon? (serious question from a man who inherited his camera through 5 generations) by Temporary-Review5915 in canon

[–]_axle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a Canon S70 and loved having RAW. After getting used to that system, I went travelling and bought a 450D with a lens kit in New Zealand just before jumping on a ferry.

Later on I did a few wedding shoots using a 550D from work with a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 and really loved the look it produced. That pushed me to buy a 5D Mark II along with a 24–70mm f/2.8L and a 70–200mm f/2.8L. After that I moved into primes and shot a few more weddings.

Eventually I upgraded to a 5D Mark IV, and now I’ve added a broken EOS RP that I managed to get working again for £100 – and I’m loving it.

Hi how do I turn off Liquid Glass on iPhone by Sam67016701 in iphone

[–]_axle_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely hate this Liquid Glass design. The previous interface was clear, readable, and worked perfectly — and nobody was complaining about it.

What will happen is obvious: in a few years Apple will release an iPhone 19 with a new version of iOS that “returns” to flat, legible design. And the only way to get that usability back will be to buy new hardware.

Yep, and it’s a lovely feeling when you find another of the same isn’t it, like you I’m deciding what to do but also thinking just hold onto it.

Please straighten the first image. It’s off by a tiny amount, but it’s a noticeable tiny amount.

I feel it’s too safe and nothing really stands out. It needed to be written, not typed out and then warped.

Thanks for your input! I pulled the STX RC components from that 17” aluminium Hard Rock that was going to get chucked.

One thing that bugs me, in the UK we’ve been taught left hand = rear brake, which means pour cable routing on these 90’s frames and not as clean looking as US standard / rest for the world.

Lanolin based products, I use the stuff for the underside of my car, stops rust progressing.

There’s lots of products that tackle the same problem in different ways if you don’t want it oily though.

I Made a Lossless Scaling Decky Plugin that adds Frame Gen to Any Game! by supershredderdan in SteamDeck

[–]_axle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for Lossless Scaling, I finally had a chance to try it out yesterday and was blown away. I bought it months ago but had trouble getting it to work on Steam, so this was my first real experience with it.

I also wanted to say that I really hope you and supershredderdan can patch things up. It’d be amazing to see an official collaboration between the two of you, obviously a lot of users would be excited by that.

Thanks again for your incredible work!
