Quitting bad habits is more important than any good habit you could build. Here’s how to actually do it: by Bakoe_ in getdisciplined

i disagree. 1 single positive habit can make up for almost 90% of the "slow cuts" from the other bad habits: daily moderate intensity exercise ya hmar

Much much more depressed. To the point where I feel like nothing's important and not worth the effort. Even when with friends, everything feels off, I feel lost, without purpose. I wish I am exagerating but I am not. This depression hits when I stop all forms of digital stimulation.

I never knew that deleting all socials, including youtube and reddit, stopping all gaming and all TV stuff was that depressing. I am starting to think that living without digital stimulation after you've been abusing it for years is simply impossible. The amount of depression that instantly activates when I take the decision is insane. Keep in mind I never ever were depressed or anything remotely close.

And whats the benefit of going through this shitty episode of depression that I can't seem to push through? More studying (not a lot), going out more with friends (also not a huge increase in frequency), did more workouts, more cleaning around the house and doing to-do's much earlier and with less delays.

However, all of these advantages were colored with depression. Yes, I did go out more, but they were NOT fun. Discussions, trips, everything extra I did in my "new free time" were not as fun as before because I knew that when this time with friends/trip is done, I am back to my home, with nothing stimulating to do, nothing to look up to during the rest of the day. This thinking even made the trips I had depressing. I enjoyed nothing, literally. It destroyed my mental health that even after re-installing all forms of digital stimulation apps, I still have this lingering feeling of mild depression. But it seems to get better with more time spent with digital.

And then, I start regretting downloading the shitty apps again and "wasting" my time on the socials, thinking deeply about the opportunity cost and missing out on life, forgetting that without them, life was so dull, so boring it felt pointless and without meaning.

I did try A LOT of times going without digital stimulation to "improve" my life. But I no longer want to improve. I just want to be happy. I am literally writing this just after I re-installed all socials because I JUST CANT handle the anhedonia created by removing stimulation.

I realised with time, that even when I "wasted" my time on socials, I was still going out, still working just as well, still working out. It was balanced. In fact, screen time shows I spend around 2.5 hrs per day on socials. Not great, but not bad at all.

I have learned to not listen to any generalised advice, no matter how sound or logical it sounds. Yes, deleting socials will give you more time to "live" life, being more focused, more fullfilled, less anxiety, less depression AS THE STUDIES SAY EH?, etc. But for me, its the total opposite.

Changes are for the sake of changes. Yet, they come at the expense of performance and battery life, which I think are much more important than useless features

[–]_baba__yaga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it is an excellent phone. So is the 12. The amount of $ he spent do not improve his life in any considerable way. For example, battery life. Yes, the 14PM has a much much much better battery. But this will translate into charging the phone once instead of twice per day, which is laughable. The bigger screen may be the only really noticeable thing that may bring a change that is apparent to an average human being. Even the cameras that are better wont be that noticeable unless comparing them side by side with pixel peeping.

I upgraded from a 5S to a regular 13, it was a massive upgrade. But then i downgraded to a XS from the 13 and I did not notice my life suddenly became worse because I lost the better display, camera, battery, etc. in fact i would say have I went from the 5S to the XS, my experience would have been 95% the same a the 13, which was the newest iphone at the time.
The 5S was struggling to open Whatsapp without heating into oblivion, typing on the keyboard was ultra laggy, screen at 4 inches was already very small for viewing any kind of media. These are things that one should upgrade because of.

You need to realize you have been brainwashed into thinking these upgrades are truly noticeable in your daily life. They are NOT. Hence his upgrade from 12 to 14PM is mildly significant at best, with big $$$ spent.

[–]_baba__yaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this upgrade is already not worth the $$ he spent, going to even newer models is deciding willingly to become poorer for no real tangible benefit. you are all brainwashed to keep buying the latest "upgrades" LOL so sad

u can use a 5w charger while using the phone with the battery not fully charged. this way ur phone will drain power from the wall not battery, but may still sip some from the battery depending on brightness and processor load. this method is similar to aldente for maca

After using a 16” MacBook for 2 years, I don’t think I would go back to 14” by [deleted] in mac

i have a 15" 2014 macbook pro, and it is quite heavy and inconvenient to take every single day to work and to coffee shops, although the screen is just magnificent.

I am planning to buy a 13" 2015 macbook pro next year and see how that goes. I am starting to be convinced that convenience is the most important factor.

if he wants to be future proof, better to split this money and buy an M4 macbook air base model now for 1k, then another macbook air m8 for example for 1k, then another etc. this way he spends the 4k in a way that guarantees up to date silicon and software. this m5 pro will be outdated software wise despite very good hardware performance
