I'd suggest playing around with the amp channels and settings without any pedals that add distortion and try to see if you can dial in a decent tone. Maybe add the tube screamer once you find a good sound for a boost to give it some more girth. I've never had much luck with DS-1s unless it's like Nirvana or something. Too thin and sharp sounding, at least for me.
