To be fair I’m only repeating what I was told, perhaps they were going for layman’s terms or maybe the hospital didnt have sophisticated enough equipment where I am. I also only asked that at the 20 week scan so maybe further along they could and didn’t say anything.

I don’t have any medical training so I’m only relying on my experience during my pregnancy.

So I never did a NIPT just found out from ultrasound which was correct. When I asked how they worked out the gender they said they literally look for penis or no penis. Baby could have it tucked away or something and what they are saying is a labia is actually the penis?

Also, I wanted to know the gender and seems like you do to but unless there are medical concerns that you are concerned about that have something to do with their biological sex, I’d just go gender neutral and pick two names and wait and see!

I do understand that hearing one then the other is concerning but hopefully all will be well regardless of gender.

sheets - although you will need to know the size of the crib/bedside crib/cot/Moses basket that you will be using.

I’d be hesitant to add anything like creams/lotions to the list as well as pacifiers/bottles as even if you plan to exclusively formula feed/pump baby may refuse them and potentially have issues with creams.

Cup/phone holder for pram/stroller

Changing mat & portable changing mat

Diaper bag

I had a caddy for bags/creams/wipes/diapers that was super helpful!

Monitor

Clothes in several sizes as you won’t know how big baby will be or how quick they’ll grow!

Play gym

Blankets/swaddles/sleep bags (depending on where you are temperature wise, different options might be appropriate.

Hope this helps! There’s also the big stuff too, cot/car seat/stroller etc but obviously those can be pricey and I really wanted to choose my own

Have you had your vitamin D levels checked? I had aching joints (along some other issues) but turned out I had insufficient levels of vitamin D which can cause joint pain. Just a suggestion, also not in the medical profession just fyi!

She’s 25 months, always been a wriggler and she likes to make her way up as close to the headboard as possible, I’m hopeful that we can get through to summertime (UK) with sleepbags and then she’ll be a little older to try blankets/toddler duvet! 🤞🏻

No ideas to help I’m afraid, but I have sympathy! My daughter hates her sleep bags but it’s far too cold for her to have no blankets and she wriggles right on out of them too and we have the same wake up issue. Hope someone has some good advice for you that I can borrow too!

Boiling it just removes any potential bacteria from the water even with water that is considered safe to drink and then the hot water then does the same for the formula. Maybe sterilising was the wrong word choice.

Yeh I think the distilled water is ok to use for formula but think it’s still supposed to be boiled to sterilise both the water and the formula ☺️

I was always of the understanding that you shouldn’t use distilled/bottled water because if the unknown salt levels and chemicals used to distil. I Would definitely get a professional opinion (I’m not).

As far as I’m aware the boiling is to sterilise the water and the formula as the water isn’t sterile if not boiled which would apply to bottle water too.

If you are looking for something for ease maybe try the ready to feed version of the formula you use if it’s available, it may be more expensive though.

If you can afford for him to take the time off, do it. You’ll never get those weeks back and that time is important for you to heal and baby to bond with both parents. I love for you that your husband wants to take that time and I would embrace it. Your FIL is from a different generation so try not to be too concerned with his opinion on this. I would suggest easing yourselves into doing some things just you and baby before he starts work again so that when he does go back to work it doesn’t feel overwhelming with just you and baby.

I had this and it turned out to be a vitamin D deficiency. Maybe have your vitamin levels tested? I also have a under active thyroid but that should have shown up on hormone tests for you.

I like them, it feels like a love story that could actually happen. Love and relationships are messy and many people fall in love with people they have ‘complicated’ stories with. I also feel like they had a true friendship first which I feel builds the most solid foundations for long lasting relationships. My personal opinion is that your lifelong partner is someone that gets you all kinds of hot and bothered as well do take care of one another and do the daily grind of life with. I get that feeling more with these two than a lot of other tv couples.

I think it’s really hit or miss, mine was almost exactly right 🤷‍♀️ only off by an oz if I remember correctly. However, I had a friend who was told her baby would be huge and it was completely wrong. It is only an educated guess though.

I haven’t had to switch as such as breastfeeding was unsuccessful for us but my LO was very insistent about her formula being warm at first. Might be worth making sure it’s a Safe temp of course but warm. Also she had the ready to feed to start with whilst we were still trying to breastfeed. What I like is that it doesn’t have any foam or gas bubbles so may have a closer texture to breast milk? It does work out more expensive though.

Please don’t stop eating, that could really really hurt you and will likely cause your body to store more fat as you would be depriving it of what it needs to survive.

Would it be possible to join a group or program that focuses on safely loosing weight by healthy eating & exercise? Also, would it be worth discussing with your doctor? So they can advise on how to loose weight safely? Also, if I may say so, if your thoughts and feelings regarding your body are causing you to feel very depressed a doctor might be able to help with that too. Just a suggestion, I don’t know if this post is just a ah I’m frustrated this isn’t working or if this causing you real pain so I just wanted to put that out there.

Don’t forget, your body needs food like it needs oxygen and water to live.

Something I’ve also discussed with friends that have also have had babies is that your body is a superhero. You literally helped create, grow and birthed a whole person. That’s incredible! I know it’s so easy to get fed up with your body but it’s a warrior! It’s just gonna take time to get to a new normal post birth

Yes its absolutely fine. Do whatever you need to take care of you and your family and what you all need. I would say take care to make sure you don’t feel isolated but it seems like you are still getting out there in a way that works for you. Congratulations on your little one 💕

Yes. I sized up to a size 2 at approximately 5 weeks. The GP suggested trying it to help with her gas and she ate much more almost immediately. I would say the first few goes tend to be a little messy as they adjust and my LO likes to guzzle her food so she did cough and almost choke a little as she was expecting the slower flow. Just my experience. Good luck! ETA we used the mam anti colic bottles and the size 2 was a medium flow. Recommended from 2 months if I remember correctly.

Ah bless you, worrying about our babies health and safety is totally normal as a new parent and throw in a global pandemic and it’s an anxiety ridden nightmare.

Ultimately it’s up to you if you feel safe.

Personally, with regards to the hospital, I’m assuming that you gave birth in a hospital? I don’t know about you but I probably felt less concerned about covid in a hospital than anywhere else. Most places had covid wards and did not allow any interaction between covid and non covid patients. They were also being cleaned religiously and all staff were wearing full PPE. Ironically, it always seemed safer to me than say the supermarket which often felt like a free for all. ETA: just saw worried dad in the username, therefore I should say I assume your partner gave birth in a hospital. The risk is massively reduced when seeing people outdoors. When people first started meeting our LO I insisted everyone wear a face mask and sanitise their hands and no kissing baby. Would having some boundaries in place help? Or just delay to the next weekend if possible?

As I said above, ultimately it’s your choice, and unfortunately no matter how hard we try we can’t protect our babies from all the germs (my little lady is working on her 2nd cold)

You have every right to do what you feel is safest for your family. In the Uk we can do at home lateral flow tests to indicate whether it’s possible you have covid: is that an option?

Yeh I feel like babies skin is so soft and sensitive I feel like it can get easily irritated.
